SaveRust linen-look covers with charcoal piping are shown on a white Hemnes daybed in an empty room, so the fit and the piping lines are easy to judge.
The quick answer
A Hemnes daybed cover is one zippered cover made to the length, width and combined height of the two mattresses stacked on the frame; in the US each is about 38 1/4 x 74 1/2 in (97 x 189 cm). A full set adds two filled backrests and two filled bolsters, with piping included. The mattresses are not included.
Every one is cut to your measurements. The number is how many readings the atelier has published for that shape.

The IKEA Hemnes is a white daybed with three drawers that pulls out to sleep two. In the US it takes two twin mattresses of 38 1/4 x 74 1/2 in (97 x 189 cm). Stacked, they are the seat of a sofa. Pulled apart, they are a bed for two.
The cover set dresses the sofa half of that life. It is made for the Hemnes, but everything is cut to measure, so it also fits an IKEA Brimnes, a standard twin or any custom daybed. For other frames, see daybed cushions and covers. The frame's numbers are gathered in the Hemnes glossary entry.

Piping, corners and the zipper
Look at the corner of a Hemnes cover and you see the whole build: a box corner, a band as deep as both mattresses, piping top and bottom. The zipper sits where both mattresses can slide in and out.
Piping is included at no extra charge and can differ from the body. Crimson on ivory. Charcoal on rust. Ice blue on eggplant velvet. Mustard on forest green. In our gallery, each pair changes the room more than the body color does.
Corduroy is the standard. It is thick, and its shade shifts with the direction of the pile and the light, so order a swatch before choosing a beige from a screen.
Velvet comes in forest green, maroon, purple, black and printed velvets among others. It is synthetic, polyester or a poly-cotton blend, so it resists crushing and mostly does not wrinkle.
Soft fabric is the quiet option: smoother than linen, no slubs, no pile, in plain colors such as navy, emerald and tobacco. There is also linen and cotton-linen, canvas-weave linen and a washable white canvas, and striped cotton and ticking for a red-and-cream or navy stripe. If synthetics bother your skin, ask for the 100% cotton chart or pure linen.
The count is how many published readings use each family. Open a family for its swatch book, care notes and neighbors.
Fillings, firmness and the wash
The backrests and bolsters arrive filled, with foam inserts of adjustable firmness. The mattresses are yours.
Only the mattress cover goes in the machine, gently, at 86°F (30°C) or lower. The filled backrests and bolsters are not machine washable; spot-clean them.
A thicker mattress is fine. Mattresses of 8 in, 9.5 in and 7¾ in (20 cm) have all been covered. A deeper mattress needs a deeper band, so give the real depth, not the frame size. See where the seat lands with the seat height calculator.
A real project
Two covers where one belonged
A buyer in the US measured the two Hemnes mattresses stacked together: 9.5 in. The order came back as two separate covers, one per mattress. Each was too tight to lie flat.
The fix was one cover of 31.5 x 79 x 9.5 in around both mattresses together.
A stacked height can be read two ways. Say which one you mean.

31.5 x 79 x 9.5 in, one cover for two mattresses
What it taught
When you give a stacked height, say whether you want one cover around both mattresses or one cover each.
Small errors, large remakes
Giving a stacked height without saying one cover or two. Two covers for a 9.5 in stack came out too tight.
Leaving out the thickness. A buyer with a 6 in twin XL mattress received a cover sized for 12 in, because most daybed buyers have a double layer.
Choosing one color at checkout and describing another in messages. A buyer picked beige, sent a photo of a lighter cream, and the set arrived darker than hoped.

One Hemnes cover for two stacked mattresses is cut to their combined height: two 4.75 in mattresses need a cover built for 9.5 to 10 in, not 8 in.
Dressing the Hemnes daybed, and where to read next
Parts can be ordered alone: just the two backrests, the mattress cover with two backrests, or the bolsters by themselves. Round bolsters can give way to rectangular pillows; one buyer in the US chose terracotta with cream trim and 12 x 30 in rectangular side pillows. A matching neck roll can be added.
Orchid pink with ivory piping in a playroom. Forest green velvet facing a home office desk. Eggplant velvet under a brass reading lamp. What does your Hemnes do after dinner?
Two mattresses. One band. One number that holds them both.
Guest night: pulling the daybed out
In sofa mode the two twin mattresses stack under one cover; in bed mode the base pulls out and they lie side by side, about 76 3/4 in wide but only 74 1/2 in long, several inches shorter than an 80 in king. The single cover has to come off before you pull the bed out, because it holds both mattresses as one block. Many owners put a twin fitted sheet on each mattress for guests, since the seam between them stays noticeable, and a foam bridge between the two can close the gap. A single cover keeps the stacked sofa looking tidy and stops the top mattress from drifting.
Buyer questions
A common question
What comes in the Hemnes full set? Is the mattress included?
The workshop's answer
The full set is one fitted, zippered mattress cover made to your mattress size, two filled backrest pillows and two filled bolster armrests, ready to use. The mattress and foam are not included. Piping is included and can be a different color. Two full sets give 2 mattress covers, 4 back pillows and 4 bolsters.
A common question
Will the set fit my Brimnes, a regular twin, or a thicker mattress?
The workshop's answer
Yes. It's designed for the Hemnes but made to measure, so it fits a Brimnes, a standard twin or any custom size, including 8 in, 9.5 in or 7¾ in (20 cm) thick mattresses. Write length, width and thickness in personalization; if the thickness is missing, the workshop asks for it after purchase.
A common question
Can one cover go around two mattresses stacked on the daybed?
The workshop's answer
Yes. Order one cover at the mattress length and width plus the combined height of both. Two 4.75 in twins total about 9.5 in, so choose a 9.5 to 10 in cover rather than 8 in. Don't order two covers for a stacked pair; they come out too tight.
A common question
Can I buy only the back cushions, or skip the bolsters?
The workshop's answer
Yes. The two backrests can be ordered alone or with the mattress cover, and the bolsters can be replaced with two rectangular pillows. The standard backrests are L-shaped to wrap the sides; a straight back-only pillow about 36 in long and 12 in deep comes through a custom listing. Parts bought separately ship together.
A common question
Does it have to be corduroy?
The workshop's answer
No. Corduroy is standard, but the Hemnes covers can be made in velvet, smooth soft fabric in colors like navy, emerald and tobacco, linen, canvas-weave linen or a washable white canvas. Write the fabric and color in the personalization box; forest green velvet cost nothing extra.
A common question
Is soft fabric closer to velvet or to linen?
The workshop's answer
Neither exactly. It looks close to linen but is smoother and more uniform, without linen's slubs, and it has no pile, so it isn't velvet. Velvet is the plush option with its own chart. Check which chart your code comes from before you order.

Hemnes questions, briefly
What size are the mattresses on a US Hemnes daybed?
Two twins of 38 1/4 x 74 1/2 in (97 x 189 cm), stacked for sitting and pulled apart for sleeping. Fit guides suggest about 5 to 6 in (13 to 15 cm) each. Measure yours anyway, because mattresses vary.
Why is there no piping on my corduroy Hemnes cover?
Corduroy daybed covers are made without piping by design; the ribs finish the edge. If you want a piped outline, choose velvet, soft fabric or linen, where piping is included and can contrast with the body.
Can the Hemnes backrests and bolsters be washed?
Not in the machine. On daybed sets only the mattress cover is machine washable; the filled backrests and bolsters are spot-cleaned. Wash the cover on a gentle cycle at 86°F (30°C) or lower.
Can I add a spare mattress cover in a second color?
Yes. A spare mattress cover can be bought through a separate link, made to the same mattress size. Order it with the set if you can, so both covers share the same measurements and arrive together.
Will a Hemnes set arrive in one box?
Not always. Large orders such as the full set can come in more than one package, so the cover may arrive before the pillows. Wait for every parcel before you judge the fit.
Can I get curtains to match the Hemnes cover?
No. The workshop makes the covers, backrests and bolsters, but not curtains. A fabric swatch from the samples listing is the easiest way to carry the color to whoever makes your curtains.
How thick can each mattress be on a Hemnes daybed?
Thinner than most people expect. The frame is sold with a 4 3/4 in foam mattress in mind, and sizing guides suggest 4 to 5 in per mattress, 5 to 6 in at most. Two 8 in mattresses make a 16 in stack that sits very high as a sofa. Twin XL, full and pillow-top mattresses don't fit the frame.
How do I stop the two stacked mattresses from sliding apart?
One cover around both is the simplest fix, because the stack moves as one piece; two separate covers let the top mattress drift. For bed mode, one daybed guide suggests a foam bed-bridge connector and a non-slip rug pad between the mattresses to close the gap. Send the combined height of both mattresses so the single cover fits snugly.
