Save- Green-striped seat
Wide green stripes suit a kitchen: they disguise crumbs and match the windowsill plant.
- Bolster at the arm
The bolster end shows the stripe wrapping neatly round, matched at the seam.
- Striped back cushion
Big back cushions make the daybed deep enough to lounge on after a meal.
- Wall clock and prints
A small cluster above keeps the wall in proportion with the long daybed.
- Checkerboard rug
A second geometric pattern works because it is beige, not green.
Plate Green striped Hemnes daybed as a breakfast nook sofa
Green and white striped covers turn a Hemnes daybed into the sofa side of a breakfast nook. A glass cabinet, round table and checkerboard rug complete the relaxed kitchen corner.
A Reading by HanaIKEA Hemnes Daybed Covers & Cushions
A green-striped Hemnes daybed cover pulled up to the kitchen table
Hana reads a white Hemnes daybed working as the sofa side of a breakfast nook, and the one ordering message that gets a striped cover right the first time.
The quick answer
Order a Hemnes daybed cover by sending the exact mattress size, with nothing added. The workshop builds in the seam allowance itself, so a padded number only makes the cover loose, and a loose cover creases. For a 74 x 37 x 7 in (188 x 94 x 18 cm) mattress, write exactly that, name the fabric by its chart code, and state the stripe direction.
The plate: a daybed that sits at the table
A daybed pulled up to a kitchen table does two jobs. Sofa at breakfast. Spare bed at night.
Here a white Hemnes stands along the wall of a breakfast nook, dressed in green and white striped cotton. The Hemnes daybed cover is boxed, with self piping, so every edge is drawn in the same stripe and nothing interrupts it.
Look at the proportion first. Two big striped back cushions stand in front of the rail and make the seat deep enough to lean back after a meal. Two bolsters close the ends. On each bolster the stripe wraps around and meets itself at the seam.
The stripe runs front to back on the seat. Crumbs brush straight off, and from across the room the green reads as a steady rhythm rather than a blur. Striped cotton this crisp forgives a kitchen.
Then the room. A white glass-front cabinet with plates keeps the corner light. A round white table and a cross-back chair say this is still a kitchen. The beige and white checkerboard rug is a second geometry, and it works because it is beige, not green, and larger in scale. A round clock and four small botanical prints make one tight cluster above, so the long daybed does not leave the wall looking bare. The plant on the windowsill is the only other green. It is there to agree with the stripe.
The light is plain side daylight. Green and white need nothing warmer.
One stripe. One direction. Everything else stays quiet.
Pinned by Hana: five marks on the nook
Five pins walk from the striped seat to the checkerboard rug, each one a decision you could repeat at home.
The numbers match the pins on the plate.

Half an inch that would have made it worse
A buyer sent the workshop a review photo of a daybed cover. Tight, smooth, no creases. They wanted the same. Their mattress measured 74 x 37 x 7 in (188 x 94 x 18 cm), and they asked whether to add half an inch (1.3 cm) to each number, to be safe.
The answer was no. Send the mattress exactly as it measures. Seam allowances are handled in the workshop. A padded number makes the cover loose, and a loose cover is exactly what creases.
The smooth cover in that photo was not luck. It was a correct number, written once. Our Pattern on measuring stacked Hemnes mattresses walks through each one.
What does your mattress measure with the old cover off?
One message, four lines
- The mattress size, length x width x thickness, measured bare.
- For two stacked mattresses, the height of the stack as you measured it.
- The fabric by chart code, with a separate code for the piping if it differs.
- The stripe direction: front to back on the seat, or along the length.
Buyer questions: stacked mattresses, timing, small jumpers
- A common question
My Hemnes daybed has two European single mattresses stacked. What size do I write for the cover?
The workshop's answerStandard European single Hemnes mattresses measure 78¾ x 31½ in (200 x 80 cm), so write that and add the combined height of both mattresses, which varies by model. A stack of about 9½ in (24 cm) is typical and needs nothing extra. Measure every dimension yourself anyway, because the cover is made exactly to what you write.
- A common question
I need two custom daybed cushions that can take hard use. How long does it take?
The workshop's answerSend both sizes and the shop quotes the pair. Ask for making and delivery times in writing with the quote. For a daybed that gets hard wear, the shop asks one question back: linen or velvet?
- A common question
My kids jump and roll on the daybed. Will a linen cover hold up?
The workshop's answerThe workshop describes its linen as durable and hard-wearing. For heavy family use it also suggests its soft fabric, which is easy to clean, or velvet.

Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
A daybed cover ordered half an inch bigger is not safer. A loose cover creases, so send the exact mattress size and let the workshop add the seams.

Questions buyers ask next
Should the stripe on a daybed seat run front to back or along the length?
Front to back suits a daybed used at a table, because crumbs brush straight off along the stripe and the bands read clearly from across the room. Whichever you choose, write it in the order note so the cover is cut that way.
Can a daybed work as seating in a kitchen nook?
Yes. Set along a wall beside a round table, it is a sofa at breakfast and a spare bed at night. Big back cushions make it deep enough to lean on, and a sturdy striped cotton hides crumbs between washes.
What does self piping do on a striped daybed cover?
Self piping is cut from the same striped cotton as the cover. It gives each edge a crisp outline without adding a second color, so the stripes meet cleanly at the seams and the daybed reads as one calm shape.
Is a swatch worth ordering for a green stripe?
Yes, if the green has to sit with a plant, a rug or painted cabinets. A swatch shows the true shade and the stripe width in your kitchen's own light, which a screen cannot. Check it by the window and again at night.
