A red and cream striped Hemnes daybed cover set, read before it goes on
Before the set goes on the daybed, it sits on the rug. This is the moment to see how each piece will hold its place.
A red and cream stripe makes the set cottage-bright. On the bolsters the stripes wrap around in rings, while on the pillows they run front to back.
The quick answer
A Hemnes daybed cover set stays in place mostly by fit: the zippered mattress cover is made to the mattress's exact length, width and thickness, the backrests lean on the back rail, and the bolsters rest against the arms. Only split seat cushions need ties at the join. Check the mattress length against a standard bed size before anything is cut.
The set on the rug, before the daybed
Everything is still on the floor. A rolled mattress cover. Two back pillows, stacked. Two bolsters. A shaggy cream rug under all of it, and behind, a white paneled daybed with its mattress bare.
It is a good way to read a Hemnes daybed cover. You see each piece alone before it becomes a sofa.
The stripe is brick red and cream, a woven cotton ticking for indoor use. On the back pillows it runs front to back. On the bolsters it wraps around in rings, and the flat end caps are cut separately, so their stripes meet the ring instead of continuing it. The piping is cut from the same stripe. It keeps the edges quiet.
A wicker basket with a folded cloth sits beside the stack. Natural wicker takes the heat out of a bold red and keeps the room cottage rather than nautical. White walls, sheer curtains. Nothing else competes.
The set belongs with the other Hemnes daybed covers and bedroom cushions; the cloth is on the striped cotton and ticking shelf. Which piece on your daybed moves when someone sits down?
Five pins on a stacked set
Five pins: three on how the stripe is cut, one on the piping, one on the basket.

- Rolled striped cover
Rolled up, the mattress cover shows how the stripes will run across the seat.
- Piping in same stripe
Piping cut from the same stripe keeps the edges quiet and lets the pattern lead.
- Stripes ring the bolster
On the bolsters the stripes wrap around like rings, so they look tidy from the side.
- Bolster end cap
The flat end is cut separately, so its stripes meet the ring rather than continue it.
- Wicker basket beside stack
Natural wicker softens a bold red stripe and keeps the look cottage rather than nautical.

How each piece holds its place
- The mattress cover holds by fit. Made to the mattress's length, width and thickness, it needs nothing else.
- Back pillows and bolsters hold by leaning, on the back rail and against the arms. Their weight is the fastening.
- Two seat cushions on one frame need ties where they meet. That join is the edge that drifts.
- A non-slip base grips a slick frame, but it changes the washing: a rubberized backing wants a cool wash and air drying, never a hot dryer.
- Striped fabric is pattern-matched on the show face only. Ask for the zipper on a face nobody sees, and the front stripes stay unbroken.
Forty-one inches or seventy-seven: the typo that was caught
A buyer wrote to the workshop about two single daybeds with extra-thick mattresses, 12 1/4 in (31 cm) deep. They ordered two Full Sets in a linen-cotton type cloth, one code for the body and one for the trim: a mattress cover without foam, two lumbar backrests and two bolsters, both with inserts.
The first size they sent was 37 x 41 in (94 x 104 cm). The workshop queried it. The real mattress was 37 x 76 3/4 x 12 1/4 in (94 x 195 x 31 cm); 41 in was the length of the backrests, 15 3/4 x 41 in (40 x 104 cm). The bolsters were 6 x 6 x 37 in (15 x 15 x 94 cm).
Before shipping, the workshop sent photos. Filled and unfilled pieces looked like two colors. It was the phone's light; the fabric was the same.
One number in the wrong box. One question before cutting. Two sets that fit.
Buyer questions: what the set includes, twins, and splitting
- A common question
Is the Hemnes daybed cover price just for the mattress cover, or does it include the backrests and side cushions?
The workshop's answerThe set includes the mattress cover plus the backrests and armrests, made to the exact size of the Hemnes daybed and the IKEA mattress that comes with it. The mattress cover can also be ordered on its own.
- A common question
Can I turn a twin bed into a daybed with backrests and end pillows, but no seat cushion?
The workshop's answerYes. The workshop has made exactly that: two 18 x 36 in (46 x 91 cm) backrests and two armrests, with no seat cushion. For reference, a full daybed set was also made for a twin XL, which is 38 x 80 in (97 x 203 cm).
- A common question
I'm buying a daybed frame and want two cushions on top so it looks like a couch. What sizes should I order?
The workshop's answerThe workshop can't take measurements from a product link, but a standard twin, 38 x 75 in (97 x 191 cm), is enough: split it into two equal cushions of 38 x 37.5 in (97 x 95 cm), placed as two orders. For a daybed seat, 3 or 4 in (7.5 or 10 cm) thick works well.
Striped fabric on a daybed cover is pattern-matched on the show face only, so ask for the zipper on a face nobody sees.

Questions buyers ask next
Do the stripes on a striped daybed bolster run around it or along it?
On this set they wrap around the bolster in rings, which looks tidy from the side. The flat end caps are cut separately, so their stripes meet the ring rather than continue it. Say which you want when you order.
Why can a cushion look like two colors in pre-shipping photos?
Phone cameras read filled and unfilled pieces differently. When a buyer saw two colors in pre-shipping photos, the fabric was the same; the difference was the lighting. Compare the pieces side by side in daylight before worrying.
