The fine print
Privacy policy
What happens to your data when you read about cushions here: very little, and nothing you cannot switch off.
Effective · Last updated
The short version
- Nothing is sold or paid for on this site and there are no accounts or comments. Three forms ask for your details when you use them: the quote form, the "Have it made" form and the contact form. They exist so the workshop can answer your request; that is the only use of what you send. See Requests you send us.
- The site owner can switch on analytics and advertising-measurement tools from the site's control panel. Marketing pixels can be set to load only after you accept them.
- If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we treat it as your request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information.
- You can change your choice at any time: Cookie settings.
- Questions or requests: the contact form or by email.
Who we are
CushionGuide (cushionguide.com) is an independent atelier that explains made-to-measure cushions. In this policy "we" and "us" mean CushionGuide. We are responsible for the personal information described here, and you can reach us through the contact form or by email.
What we collect when you visit
Server logs. Like every website, our web host records technical details of each request: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. We use them to keep the site running and secure and keep them only as long as that needs.
Settings saved in your browser. Your light or dark theme, your consent choice and, while you fill it in, an unsent draft of the quote form are stored in your own browser and are not sent to us until you press send.
Search. The search page downloads an index of the site and searches it in your browser; the words you type are not sent to our server. If analytics is switched on, a search event may be recorded, with email addresses and long numbers masked.
Analytics and advertising tools. See the next sections.
The request forms. Only when you send the quote form, the "Have it made" form or the contact form do we receive your name and contact details; see Requests you send us. We never ask for payment details on this site.
Requests you send us (notice at collection)
The quote form, the "Have it made" form on content pages and the contact form send a request to the workshop. Sending one is a request, not an order: nothing is charged, and the partner workshop's team replies to talk it through.
What we collect. - Identifiers you give us: your name, email address, phone number and, if you add it, your ZIP code and country. - Your request: the cushion details (product, shape, sizes, fabric, foam, piping and the rest), your notes or message, how and when you would like the workshop to reply, and any photos you add. Photos are re-encoded when they arrive, which removes their embedded metadata, including location. - Internet activity: the page you sent the request from, the page you came from, and the ad or link that brought you, if any (campaign tags and click IDs), plus the time zone your browser reports, your browser type, and a shortened one-way code made from your IP address (to stop spam, not to find you). - That you agreed to be contacted about this request, with the date and time.
Why. Only to answer and quote your request, to make and deliver the cushion if you go ahead, and to keep spam out. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not use your details for advertising. When a request is sent, the analytics and advertising tools described below may record that a request was sent from a page, never what you wrote.
Who receives it. The people who run CushionGuide and the partner workshop that makes the cushions, as the business that fulfills your request. The request is stored on our web host and a copy is emailed to the workshop; those services keep it only on our behalf.
Sale and sharing. We do not sell this information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long. Requests, their photos and the email copies are deleted 24 months after they arrive, or sooner when you ask. The mail delivery log, which records only that an email was sent, is kept for 6 months.
Your rights. Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you (know), correct or delete what you sent. California residents have these rights under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, including the right not to be treated differently for using them, and residents of other states with privacy laws have similar rights. To ask, use the contact form or by email and pick the topic "Privacy"; tell us the email address or phone number you used so we can find the request. We confirm when it is done, normally within a few days and always within 45 days. You can also simply tell the workshop when they contact you.
WhatsApp and text messages. If you message the workshop on WhatsApp or by text, those messages are also handled by WhatsApp or your phone carrier under their own privacy policies.
Analytics and advertising tools
The site owner can enable, from the site's control panel, analytics tools (Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar) and advertising-measurement tools (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, Pinterest Tag, TikTok Pixel, X Pixel, Snap Pixel, Reddit Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag). Only the tools that are switched on load on the page.
When a tool is on, its provider may set cookies or similar identifiers and receive: the pages you view, clicks on links to the partner workshop's shop and on the contact buttons, that a request was sent (never its content), shares and saves to Pinterest, masked search terms, device and browser information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Each provider handles that data under its own privacy policy.
We use these tools to learn which pages help people and whether our advertising works. We do not use them to identify you by name.
Consent and your choices
When the consent banner is switched on, it offers Accept and Decline. Advertising pixels do not load until you accept, and analytics can be set to wait as well. Google Consent Mode starts with advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalization set to denied, and changes them only when you accept.
Your choice is stored in your browser. You can change it at any time with Cookie settings; declining after accepting reloads the page without the pixels. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and use the industry opt-out pages at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser or extension sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we honor it as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information. The consent banner is not shown and the site behaves as if you had clicked Decline: advertising pixels do not load, and the ad or link that brought you is not recorded with a request.
Your rights in California and other US states
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you rights over your personal information. Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and Oregon, have similar rights.
What we collect. In the past 12 months, when the tools above were switched on: identifiers (IP address, cookie and device identifiers), internet activity (pages viewed, clicks, masked searches) and approximate location derived from IP address. When you send a request: the identifiers and request details listed under Requests you send us. Sources: you, your browser, our web host and the providers of those tools. Purposes: running and securing the site, understanding how it is used, measuring advertising, and answering your request.
Sale and sharing. We do not sell personal information for money. When advertising pixels are enabled, letting ad platforms collect identifiers and activity on this site may count as "selling" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. To opt out, use Cookie settings and choose Decline, or turn on Global Privacy Control. This is our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" choice.
Sensitive personal information. We do not collect it.
Your rights. You may ask to know what personal information we hold about you, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Use the contact form or by email (topic "Privacy"); an authorized agent may write for you. Because we have no accounts, we match requests through the email address or phone number you used, and browsing data only through the identifiers stored in your browser; we will explain what we can find. We answer within 45 days. If you live in a state that offers an appeal and we decline a request, reply to our answer to appeal it.
Retention. Server logs are kept only as long as security and troubleshooting require. Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in each tool. Requests are deleted 24 months after they arrive.
Corrections and removal requests
The questions, answers and project examples on this site are general explanations for anyone planning a made-to-measure cushion. If you believe something on this site concerns you, is wrong, or should not be here, tell us through the contact form or by email and we will correct it or take it down.
Orders
This site does not take orders or payments; the request forms only ask the workshop to reply to you. When you agree on a cushion with the workshop, or follow a link to the partner workshop's shop, the workshop (and the marketplace, if you order there) handles your order, payment and delivery details under their own terms and privacy policies. We never receive payment details.
Fonts, sharing buttons and links
Our fonts are served by Bunny Fonts; your browser requests the font files, so that service receives your IP address to deliver them. Share and Pinterest Save buttons are plain links: nothing is sent to a social network until you click one. The WhatsApp, text and call buttons open your own app with a message you can edit; nothing is sent until you send it. Links to other websites are governed by those websites' policies.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of the page. Significant changes are noted here for at least 30 days.
