The Cutting Table · a common question
Why won't my discount code work, and why did it remove the sale price?
Also asked as:I entered the discount and it removed the standing one.The discount is not being deducted.
A code that raises your total is a puzzle worth solving before checkout. Nine times out of ten, the sale was already there.
The quick answer
Your discount code most likely won't work because the store sale is already built into the listing price, and the marketplace doesn't let a code stack on a running sale. Entering one can remove the sale and push the total up. Shop codes often need a minimum spend too. Leave the code box empty and message the shop before you pay; past buyers had the code's value settled by hand.
SaveKey facts
- Listing prices already include the running store sale.
- The store discount is applied automatically; no code is needed.
- The marketplace won't combine a code with a running sale, so a code can remove the sale discount.
- Shop codes usually carry a minimum spend and a small fixed cap.
- When a code wouldn't apply, the shop has settled its value by hand, refunded after ordering or taken off the listing price.
- Coupons sent by the marketplace itself are handled by marketplace support.
- A receipt can show the pre-discount price; your bank statement shows the actual charge.

The sale was already sewn in
At the cutting table we say you can't hem the same edge twice. Discounts work the same way. The store sale, when one is running, is applied automatically and already sits inside the price you see. The marketplace doesn't let a code ride on top of a running sale, so when you type one in, checkout drops the sale to make room for it. A small fixed code replaces a bigger sale discount, and the total goes up.
Most shop codes also carry a minimum spend and a small fixed cap. For several cushions, one package quote is a better route than any code.
If a code won't apply, don't wrestle the checkout, my friend. Message the shop before you pay; in past cases the code's value was settled by hand, refunded after the order or taken off the listing price. Ordering IKEA Hemnes daybed covers or a set of several? Read what to send for a custom cushion quote and ask for one total. Did your total jump the moment you pressed apply?
When the code won't take
Check the listing price
If it shows a sale, that discount is already in.
Leave the code box empty
A code can knock the sale off. Check out at the sale price.
Message the shop
Name the code and the order. Past buyers had its value settled by hand, refunded after ordering or taken off the listing price.

Why a code refuses to budge
- A running store sale is already on the listing, and codes can't stack on it.
- The cart is under the code's minimum spend.
- The coupon came from the marketplace, not from the shop.
- The receipt shows the pre-sale price, so the code looks missing when it isn't needed.
A discount code can raise a cushion total: the store sale is already in the listing price, and checkout drops it to apply the code.

Buyer questions
- A common question
My discount code replaced the sale price and the total went up. What should I do?
The workshop's answerEmailed codes generally need a high minimum order. When a small code replaced the standing sale price, the shop asked the buyer to order at the sale price and refunded the code's value afterward to the original payment method.
- A common question
Why does my receipt show a higher price than I paid?
The workshop's answerThe store discount is applied automatically and already included in the price you see. The higher figure on the receipt is the price before that discount; your bank statement shows the actual charge.
- A common question
Why didn't my coupon apply, and is there a first-order discount?
The workshop's answerSome coupons have a minimum cart amount, which is usually why one doesn't apply. First-order offers have come with a minimum spend as well, and were refunded after ordering rather than taken at checkout.
- A common question
A coupon the marketplace sent me won't apply. Can you fix it?
The workshop's answerCoupons sent by the marketplace are managed by the marketplace, so the shop can't apply or change them. Contact marketplace support.
- A common question
Why does my coupon wipe out the sale price?
The workshop's answerThe marketplace doesn't let a code stack with a running sale, so entering it removes the sale discount. Shop codes are normally capped at a small fixed amount, so the swap costs you. When a code wouldn't apply, the shop has lowered the listing price by hand so the buyer could check out without it.
Questions buyers ask next
Do I need a code to get the sale price?
No. The store sale is applied automatically and already included in the listing price, so you can check out without typing anything. For several cushions, ask for one package total instead.
Is there a better price for ordering several cushions?
Often, yes. Several cushions are quoted as one package, and past multi-cushion quotes came in below the sum of single pieces. Send every size and fabric in one message and ask for a single total before you order.
Can the shop honor a code after I've already paid?
It has, by hand. When a code wouldn't apply at checkout, buyers ordered at the sale price and messaged the shop, and the code's value was refunded afterward to the original payment method.
