  2. Pampas on cane nightstand

Pampas, cane and oak sit in the same tan family as the burnt-orange cord.

  3. Seat edge piping

The cord follows the front of the fitted cover in one unbroken line, a sign the cover is sized to the mattress.

  4. Rattan chair and throw

A knitted throw left on the chair adds a second soft texture without adding a new color.

  5. Faded medallion rug

Pattern stays low on the floor, so it never competes with the clean lines of the cushions.

A Cream Velvet Hemnes Daybed Cover, Set Up as a Reading Corner

One arc lamp, one burnt-orange cord, and a buyer who sent only a thickness. How the missing numbers were found before anything was cut.

The quick answer

A Hemnes daybed cover fits only when it is cut to your own mattresses, because Hemnes sizes differ between countries. Send the length, width and combined thickness; one buyer's set measured 79 x 31 1/2 in (200 x 80 cm) and 9 1/2 in (24 cm) combined. Here, cream velvet with burnt-orange piping turns the daybed into a reading corner.

Pinned by Hana: five places the eye rests on the daybed

Five pins, from the arc lamp over the arm to the faded rug, trace how one warm cord ties a whole reading corner together.

The numbers match the pins on the plate.

Plate notes: a daybed set up for reading

A white Hemnes daybed. A cream velvet cover set with a burnt-orange cord along the edges. A black arc lamp leaning over the left arm.

That lamp changes the piece. It turns a daybed into a reading seat without any wiring in the wall.

Look at the seat edge. The piping runs across the front of the fitted cover in one unbroken line. That only happens when the cover is sized to the mattress it holds.

The props belong to one family. Cane on the nightstand drawer, pampas in a stone vase, a rattan chair, a woven basket under the fiddle-leaf fig. Each is tan, close to the color of the cord. So the piping looks chosen for the room, not added to it.

Cream velvet is the calm center. Two back pillows and two bolsters repeat it. The rug is faded terracotta and dusty blue, and its pattern stays low on the floor, where it does not argue with the clean edges above. A knit throw left on the chair adds texture without adding a color.

The three plates beside the hero show the same set in linen-look fabrics: deep teal, navy and powder blue with camel or cream piping, neutrals from cream to slate gray, and greens from mint to olive. The shape stays the same. Only the mood moves.

If you want this room, start with one warm natural material you already own. Match the piping to it, not to the wall.

A real project

A Hemnes order with a 9 1/2 in thickness and no length

A buyer ordered the Hemnes cover set and filled in one number: a combined thickness of 9 1/2 in (24 cm). No length. No width.

The workshop did not guess. It paused before cutting and asked, because Hemnes mattresses are not the same size in every country. The buyer measured and wrote back: 79 x 31 1/2 in (200 x 80 cm).

A second question was hiding in the thread. The listing showed only velvet and soft fabrics, and the buyer wanted linen. So linen charts were sent in the conversation, and the fabric code was chosen from them.

Measure your own mattresses, even when the frame has a famous name. The Hemnes cover measuring Pattern shows where the tape goes. What do yours measure?

One number became three. A fabric that was not on the page was found anyway. The scissors waited.

Buyer questions: thicker mattresses, own inserts, cover only

  1. A common question

My daybed mattress is about 8 in (20 cm) thick. Can you make the Hemnes set to fit it, plus a spare mattress cover?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. The set is made in any size, including for a 7¾ in (20 cm) mattress, and an extra mattress cover can be bought separately on its own link. The fabric in that order was a thick, high-quality corduroy. Matching curtains aren't offered.

  2. A common question

I already own back pillow inserts. Could you make very tight-fitting covers for them?

    The workshop's answer

The workshop suggested supplying its own inserts instead, with no change to the set price. No thickness had been given, and nobody knew whether the inserts were foam or fiber-filled, which makes a tight fit unpredictable. With the workshop's inserts, everything sits as it should.

  3. A common question

I only need the zippered mattress cover for a twin or full daybed, none of the pillows. Is that possible, and how long does it take?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Choose the 'mattress cover' option and write your main and piping color codes. A twin cover 8 1/2 in (22 cm) thick with piping and a full-size cover 9 to 10 in (23 to 25 cm) thick without pillows were each quoted on their own, with 4 to 5 days of processing and 2 to 3 days of delivery after dispatch.

A Hemnes daybed cover fits when the piping runs in one straight line across the front, and that starts with measuring the mattresses, since country versions differ.

Questions buyers ask next

Why does the piping line matter on a Hemnes daybed cover?

A cord that runs straight across the front edge shows the cover fits the mattress. Wrinkles or a wandering line usually mean the cover is too big, or the mattress is a different size from the one that was measured.

What piping color suits a cream velvet daybed set?

Take the color from a warm natural material already in the room, such as cane, rattan or pampas, and match the cord to it. Here burnt orange ties the set to tan textures instead of to the wall color.

Are all IKEA Hemnes daybed mattresses the same size?

No. Hemnes mattresses differ between countries, so measure the length, width and combined thickness of your own before ordering a cover set. In one order the workshop paused before cutting to ask for the missing numbers.

Can a Hemnes cover set be made in linen?

Linen can be requested even when a listing shows only velvet and soft fabrics. In one project the linen charts were sent in the conversation, and the buyer chose a fabric code from them.
