A crimson Hemnes daybed cover with striped backs, read edge by edge
Hana reads a white Hemnes daybed dressed in two fabrics: a plain crimson seat, striped back cushions and round striped bolsters. Every edge on it is a decision.
SaveThe quick answer
A Hemnes daybed cover reads as a sofa when the mattress and back cushions have box edges with self piping and round bolsters frame the ends. Put the plain fabric on the mattress cover, where wear is heaviest, and the stripe on the backs and bolsters. Measure bolsters to the back cushions: one buyer got 33 in (84 cm) when about 29 in (74 cm) was wanted.

To you,
A letter about four edges
Four inches. That was the only thing wrong with one Hemnes daybed set the workshop made, and it had nothing to do with color.
So this letter is about edges. The photograph is mostly edges. A white Hemnes frame. A crimson mattress cover with a boxed side. Two striped back cushions, also boxed. Two round bolsters at the ends.
Each shape tells the body what to do. A box edge, with a side panel between top and bottom, says sit. A knife edge, pinched to one seam like a throw pillow, says lean. A roll says rest your arm here. This daybed uses box, box and roll, and that is why it reads as a sofa by day and a bed by night.
Pinned by Hana: the guest-room daybed
Begin at the plain crimson seat, then follow the pins up to the striped backs and out to the bolster and the cream throw.

- Plain crimson seat
A solid seat hides spills and sitting marks better than a pale stripe.
- Striped back cushion
Moving the stripe up to the backs puts the pattern at eye level, where it gets noticed.
- Second back cushion
Stripes on both backs line up so the pair reads as one wide panel.
- Striped bolster
Bolsters match the backs, framing the plain seat in pattern.
- Cream throw
The cream throw repeats the pale stripe and keeps the corner light.

Why the stripe climbed to the backs
The seat is plain crimson linen-look. It takes the most sitting, so it gets the fabric that hides marks. It is also the one piece of a daybed set that goes in the washing machine. The filled backs and bolsters do not.
The stripe moves up. On the backs and bolsters it sits at eye level and frames the seat instead of covering it. The backs are boxed, and on daybed sets they stand about 19½ in (50 cm) tall. A knife-edge back at that height would fold forward against the rail. A box holds its face.
The piping is self piping. On the crimson seat it draws the mattress edge in shadow, not in a second color. On the stripe it almost disappears. The stripes on the two backs are lined up, so the pair reads as one wide panel. Ask for that alignment in your order note.
The room stays quiet. Linen curtains soften the light. A cream fringed throw on the wooden bench repeats the pale stripe and keeps that corner bright. A wicker basket adds one rough, warm texture beside all the smooth cloth.

Plain where you sit.
Pattern where you look.
Round where you rest.
Thirty-three inches where twenty-nine was meant
One buyer wrote in wanting a thicker, sofa-type fabric for a Hemnes daybed set, and the shop sent an extra chart of heavier cloths. It also warned that the covers would fit the mattresses snugly.
The set arrived. The color was right. The sewing was right. But the round bolsters were 33 in (84 cm) long, made to reach the back of the daybed. The buyer had pictured about 29 in (74 cm), so they would sit in front of the back cushions.
Both lengths were reasonable. Only one was written down.
Measure a bolster from the front edge of the seat to the face of the back cushion, not to the back rail, and put that sentence in your note. The Hemnes cover measuring pattern shows where the tape goes. Where should your bolsters stop?

Buyer questions
- A common question
Can I pick any color for the Hemnes daybed cover and a different one for the piping? And why did the price change in my cart?
The workshop's answerYes. The cover and the piping can each be any color on the fabric chart, for example off-white with forest green piping. The listing has four options (armrests only, covers only, backrests only, or the full set), and the price updates with the option you pick, so check the selection in your cart.
- A common question
My daybed mattress cover will be cream. Should the piping be cream too, or a contrast?
The workshop's answerIt is a styling call, and every route works: no piping, cream on cream, which is the zero-risk choice, or a muted contrast such as camel, which stays in the same warm family as cumin accents. To judge how strong a contrast like burnt terracotta looks, study listing and review photos taken in real rooms.
- A common question
Could you make two twin daybed mattress covers that match my couch?
The workshop's answerYes. Two twin covers at 39 x 75 in (99 x 191 cm) and 8 in (20 cm) deep were quoted for one buyer. Send a photo of the couch; the shop replies with photos of close fabrics and alternatives, and the samples listing lets you compare them in person.
A daybed bolster should run from the seat's front edge to the face of the back cushion, not to the back rail.

Questions buyers ask next
Box edge or knife edge for daybed back cushions?
Box edge. A side panel between the top and bottom lets a back cushion stand upright and read like a sofa back. A knife edge pinches to one seam and slumps at daybed height, which suits throw pillows better.
How long should bolsters be on a Hemnes daybed?
Decide where they sit first. Bolsters that reach the back rail run the full seat depth; bolsters that sit in front of the back cushions are shorter by the cushion's thickness. One buyer received 33 in (84 cm) when about 29 in (74 cm) was wanted.
Can the striped back cushions on a daybed set be machine washed?
No. On daybed sets only the mattress cover is machine washable. The filled backs and bolsters are not, which is one more reason to put the plain, practical fabric on the seat and the pattern up high.
