The quick answer
A kids floor sofa is a low, foam-filled couch or corner cushion sized for children, with zip-off covers that wash. A 32 x 32 in (80 x 80 cm) corner suits one 4-year-old, and about 40 x 40 in fits two toddlers. Corner pieces are 8 in (20 cm) thick. For sleepovers, a 24 x 70 in or 27 x 70 in pad works well.
Children measure comfort with their whole body. They climb, lie across, stack and slide. A kids' floor sofa is built for that: low foam pieces, no frame, covers that zip off.
There are two families. The play couch is a seat, a backrest and two armrests, chosen by one size: 16 x 32 in (41 x 81 cm) gives a seat and backrest at that size, plus two arms. The corner floor sofa is a quarter-round cushion that fills the corner of a room.
Both keep a child close to the floor. Both can be a reading spot, a fort and, on a Friday, a sleepover bed.
Corners, couches and a half circle
The corner piece is a quarter circle. Its size is the length of the two straight sides, so 39 x 39 in means 39 in along each wall. Two quarter-rounds side by side make a half circle against a flat wall.
The play couch is made of rectangles: a base, a back, two bolster-like arms, often with round pillows. The pieces lift out, so the couch becomes a fort or a bed on the floor.
Custom sizes are made. Order the next standard size up and write your size in the note; a smaller custom corner costs the same as the size you select. The canopies in the photographs are styling, not part of the cushion. For odd corners, see playroom corner cushions.
Fabric for small hands and spilled milk
Choose the fabric for spills first and color second.
The soft microfiber the workshop recommends for children is a little more durable than linen, thinner than velvet, and wipes clean. It sits with the performance and pet-friendly weaves.
Velvet is very strong and the easiest to spot-clean; marks lift off the pile.
Corduroy, on most of the couches photographed here, is a plush velvet corduroy. It is indoor-only and made without piping.
Striped cotton is lovely and hard to clean. Keep it for a pillow, not the seat.
The count is how many published readings use each family. Open a family for its swatch book, care notes and neighbors.
Foam, firmness and the first few days
The play couch uses T28 cold foam: 28 kg/m³, about 1.75 lb/ft³, medium-hard. It softens slightly with use. It can be upgraded to 32 kg/m³, about 2.0 lb/ft³, for a firmer seat. Corner floor sofas are foam too, 8 in (20 cm) thick, inside a removable cover.
Firm suits children. They stand on it, jump from it, build with it. A soft seat folds under them.
The pieces travel vacuum-packed. Unpack at once, lay them flat, and wait 3–4 days before you measure; a long cushion can read short at first. See the first 72 hours, and compare feels in the foam firmness finder.
A real project
The space under a loft bed
A parent in the US wrote about the space under a 12-year-old's loft bed. They wanted seating by day and somewhere for friends to sleep over, about 70–75 in (178–191 cm) long.
The workshop said the cushions are comfortable to sleep on, that most buyers get them for children, and suggested 24 x 70 in or 27 x 70 in. The dead space under the bed became a lounge.

24 x 70 in or 27 x 70 in
What it taught
A floor cushion 70 in or longer turns loft-bed dead space into a seat by day and a bed for sleepovers.
Where kids' floor sofas go wrong
Judging the size from a photo. Photos have no scale; tape the footprint on the floor beside the bed or dresser.
Measuring the day the box opens. Compressed foam needs 48–72 hours, sometimes a week; wait 3–4 days and measure flat against a wall.
Mixing inches and centimeters. Write the unit after every number, on drawings and in messages.
Buying the fabric swatch option by mistake. If the price looks surprisingly low, check that the size field shows a real size.
Choosing striped cotton or pale linen for a toddler's seat. Pick a washable mid-tone with zip-off covers.
A kids floor sofa corner of 32 x 32 in suits one 4-year-old; two toddlers need about 40 x 40 in. To read lying beside them, go to 47 in.

A quiet play corner, and what to read next
The photographs keep it quiet. A dove gray couch with one daisy pillow and one pale blue star. A charcoal couch on a jute rug, round pillows, bolster arms. Nesting corduroy arches in sage, blush and cream, which a toddler pulls apart and fits back together.
One color for the sofa, two small accents, a flat rug beneath. The rug also stops pieces sliding on wood.
One buyer drew a play couch of six base cushions in two layers with three back cushions, and ordered linen samples first to match a velvet shade; fibers take dye differently. The wait was worth it.

Buyer questions
A common question
Can my kids actually sleep on a floor cushion? What size should I get?
The workshop's answer
Yes. The cushions are solid enough to sit or lie on, and many buyers use them as children's sleepover beds. Under a loft bed, 24 x 70 or 27 x 70 in is typical, and 70–75 in lengths are made routinely; a twin is about 38 x 75 in. A 6 or 8 in thickness sits higher off the floor. For a true toddler bed, the workshop points parents to its separate kids' foam bed.
A common question
I want to lie down and read with my child. Which size floor sofa?
The workshop's answer
Kids' cushions are child-scaled, so choose the largest size offered; the large kids' corner sofa is 47 in. For a bigger bedtime reading area, the 28 x 64 in couch works well, and any size can be made. You pick one size and get the seat, the backrest and two armrests. For children, the soft microfiber is the usual recommendation.
A common question
What size corner cushion works for a toddler's reading nook?
The workshop's answer
About 40 x 40 in for a toddler's reading corner; a 32 x 32 in (80 x 80 cm) corner is cozy for a 4-year-old. Mark the size on the floor where it will go to check the fit. For a built-in nook, send the exact size and the workshop sends a payment link once you've chosen the fabric.
A common question
How do I measure for the corner floor cushion?
The workshop's answer
Along the two straight sides that sit against the walls and meet at the corner, so 39 x 39 in means each wall side is 39 in. Don't measure diagonally from the back corner to the front, and you don't need the curve: on a 48 x 48 in quarter circle, the curved edge is about 75.4 in. For a three-sided corner, send a photo with measurements and the depth taken in the middle.
A common question
Can I order a second set of covers in another color, now or later?
The workshop's answer
Yes. The workshop keeps your exact sizes, so extra covers can be ordered with the cushion or at any time later, in the same fabric or any chart color. Ordered alongside the cushion, a spare set costs less than the separate cover-only listing. Parents use spares for laundry day, for a change of season, or to replace a color they regret.
A common question
Which fabric is most durable and easiest to clean with young kids?
The workshop's answer
Two ranges: the workshop's soft microfiber and its velvet. The microfiber is a little more durable than linen, thinner than velvet, stays soft and wipes clean. Velvet is very strong and the easiest to spot-clean between washes, because marks lift off the pile. The striped cotton fabrics are not child-friendly to clean.

Small questions about kids' floor sofas, plain answers
Is a kids' corner floor sofa filled with foam or fiber?
Foam, inside a removable zippered cover. The corner pieces are 8 in (20 cm) thick in 32 in, about 39 in and about 47 in sizes. The play couch uses T28 foam, which can be upgraded to about 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) for a firmer seat.
Can a kids' corner cushion be smaller than 32 inches?
Yes. Corners down to 25 x 25 in (64 x 64 cm) have been made. Order the next standard size up, write your size in the note and message the workshop with it. A smaller custom size costs the same as the size you select.
Can two corner cushions sit along a flat wall?
Yes. Two quarter-circle corner cushions placed together form a half circle against a straight wall. Send a photo of the space and the workshop confirms the fit before you order.
Is the canopy in the photos part of the kids' sofa?
No. The canopies are styling, and the listing is for the cushion itself. Pillows and back cushions styled in photographs are decorative and sold separately unless the listing names them as part of a set.
Can the order ship after the holidays, when someone is home?
Yes. Write the earliest delivery date in the order note and confirm it by message. One parent's order for a small child's bedroom was set to ship only from December 27, so someone would be home to receive it.
What size is a standard foam play couch?
Most follow one format: a base about 66 x 33 in, a 5 in base cushion with a 3 in top, and a seat height around 8 1/2 in, sold in sets of 4 to 11 pieces. A made-to-measure kids floor sofa doesn't have to fit that footprint; it can be cut to a nook, a wall or the space under a loft bed.
What age is a kids floor sofa for?
Toddlers and up. Play couch makers set minimum ages by model, commonly one, two or three years, ask for adult supervision and label their sets not for sleeping. A made-to-measure floor sofa suits toddlers and older children for play, reading and, for older kids, sleepovers. Babies should nap in a crib or bassinet, following US safe-sleep guidance.
