Taupe and sand corduroy play arches, read by the hand
Two arches, one dome, a round rug. The cloth is corduroy. How it feels, where it wears, and what to do when it does.
Overlapping two arches instead of nesting them makes a double tunnel.
The quick answer
Corduroy feels soft and ribbed under a hand, and on play arches the ribs also shape the eye: run horizontally, they make an arch look lower and wider. Where children climb most, the pile presses flatter over time. If one piece is damaged, its cover can be ordered alone instead of a whole new set.
Three shapes, one cloth
Two arches stand on a round jute rug. One is taupe, one is sand. The sand arch sits half inside the taupe one, and together they make a double tunnel.
Nothing here has piping. The box edges are plain, and the corduroy ribs run horizontally across each face. Horizontal lines make a shape look lower and wider. On a piece a child crawls through, that reads as steady.
In front, a cream half-dome faces the tunnels. It is a small seat. It is also where the eye stops before going back into the arches.
The room supplies the straight lines. A large window grid, a linen curtain, a wall ledge with picture books facing out. The round rug repeats the curves and marks where play happens. A knit bunny waits on a child-height wooden stool. It keeps the scale honest; without it, the arches could be any size.
Taupe, sand and cream in airy daylight. The color stays quiet so the shapes can be read. In a small room, overlapping the pieces takes less floor than setting them in a line. More layouts are in the play build sketches and under kids floor sofas.

How corduroy feels, wears and cleans
Put a palm on corduroy and move it across the ribs. You feel ridges. Move it along them and the cloth is smooth. Children find this out in the first minute.
The ribs are pile, and pile has a direction. Where knees and hands land most, it presses down, and the color shifts a shade as the light moves. That is use showing, not damage. It appears first on the tops of the arches and the front of the dome. Corduroy wale and nap direction explains why one cloth can look lighter from one side.
For spills, blot first. Rubbing pushes liquid into the ribs and roughs up the pile. The cover washing pattern covers the rest, and kid-friendly cushion fabric sets corduroy beside other cloths.
Some damage is not wear. A dog's teeth. A pair of scissors. Then the answer is one new cover, not a new set.
Which piece in your room takes the most climbing?
The hand learns the cloth. The cloth learns the hand. Both take a little time.
A small box at the front desk
A family wrote to the workshop about a floor sofa for their children's room in an apartment. They wanted purple velvet, with a seat of about 23.5 x 55 in (60 x 140 cm). First they asked whether the seat depth in the photo was 23.5 or 27.5 in (60 or 70 cm). It was 23.5 in (60 cm).
The backrest and side bolsters were part of the set. The family was going away, so the shop held the shipment until they were home.
Then the building's front desk signed for a box that looked far too small. The shop explained that the set was vacuum-packed, two packs together. Once it was opened, the family found the sofa pretty, comfortable and well made.
Two things to keep. A 23.5 in (60 cm) seat depth suits a children's floor sofa. And a small box is normal for vacuum-packed cushions; the first 72 hours after unpacking are worth reading first.
Buyer questions: filling, a chewed cover, a longer sofa
- A common question
What is the filling in the corduroy pouf sofa, and what certification is behind the materials?
The workshop's answerThe cover fabrics come from OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified mills, and the shop shares the certificate on request. The shop describes the filling as natural latex upholstery foam.
- A common question
Our dog chewed through one piece of the modular sofa. Can I buy a cover for just that piece?
The workshop's answerYes. Single piece covers, such as the ottoman cover, can be bought on their own. A single corner piece can also be ordered by itself and used as a chair in another room.
- A common question
Can the corduroy modular floor sofa be 90 in long instead of the standard 80 in, and does it matter where I order?
The workshop's answerYes, for an added charge, because at 90 in (229 cm) all four pieces, both seats and both backrests, become custom sizes. Order the standard set, put the 90 in request in the order note and message the shop, which sends a separate link for the difference. The marketplace listing and the website are handled the same way; nothing custom goes into production before the shop reviews it.

Corduroy ribs change the shape you see. Set horizontally across a play arch, they make the arch look lower and wider, and steadier to climb.

Questions buyers ask next
Does corduroy show wear on a kids' play set?
It shows use as a change of shade more than as damage. The pile presses flatter where knees and hands land, usually on the tops of arches, and looks lighter or darker as the light moves across it.
Why do the ribs run sideways on these arches?
Horizontal ribs make a shape look lower and wider, so an arch a child crawls through reads as steady and grounded. Vertical ribs on the same arch would make it look taller and narrower.
What seat depth suits a children's floor sofa?
About 23.5 in (60 cm). In one real order a family checked whether the seat was 23.5 or 27.5 in (60 or 70 cm) deep before buying, and the 23½ in (60 cm) depth is the one that suits children.
Why did a whole floor sofa arrive in such a small box?
Because it was vacuum-packed. The cushions are compressed for shipping, and one set arrived as two packs together in a box small enough to surprise the family. Unpacked, it turned out comfortable and well made.
