A Reading by NateL-Shaped Corner Bench Cushions
Sage bouclé L-shaped bench cushions in a kitchen nook, and how the cloth lives
Two cushions, one corner, and a cloth made of small loops: how it behaves between breakfast and bedtime, plus a real L read back in both units.
SaveThe quick answer
Bouclé on an L-shaped bench cushion feels soft and matte, hides small marks in its loops, and washes in its zipped cover at 86°F (30°C) or lower on a gentle cycle. The loops can snag on rings and claws, and they hold pet hair. On a kitchen storage bench, two pieces meeting at the corner lift more easily than one L.
The hand of sage bouclé
Bouclé is woven from looped yarn, so its face is a field of tiny curls. It feels soft and dry, stays matte, and turns every seam into a gentle shadow. That is why the tonal piping here reads as a pencil line, not a stripe.
The leaded window throws a faintly green light, and the sage takes it well. Purple and yellow wildflowers in a cream jug are the only bright color against sage and oak. An open book, a white mug and a round pedestal table sit close enough that the bench works for breakfast.
How the cloth wears in a kitchen: - Marks: the loops hide small ones well. - Snags: loops can catch on rings, claws and zipper pulls. Tighter loops snag less. - Pet hair: a textured face holds it. - Washing: covers unzip and wash at 86°F (30°C) or lower.
Two cushions meet at the corner instead of one L, so each lifts on its own for the storage below. Measure twice, partner; the fabric remembers. More on the cloth in bouclé and teddy fabrics and the bouclé care guide; more corners under kitchen nook cushions.
The L, read back in both units
The workshop's layout for a real L-shaped lounge bench, converted to inches. Walls first, then the pieces cut to fill them.
| Piece | Inches | cm | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long wall | 172 7/8 | 439 | wall to wall |
| Short wall | 73 1/4 | 186 | wall to wall |
| Seat 1 | 23 5/8 x 73 1/4 | 60 x 186 | runs into the corner |
| Seat 2 | 23 5/8 x 74 3/4 | 60 x 190 | long wall |
| Seat 3 | 23 5/8 x 74 3/4 | 60 x 190 | long wall |
| Thickness | 3 1/8 | 8 | every seat |
| Backrests | wedge | four pieces |
439 − 60 = 149¼ in (379 cm) of long wall; the two 74¾ in (190 cm) seats make 380. One centimeter over sits inside the ½ to ¾ in (1 to 2 cm) handmade tolerance.

Five pins, from the wildflowers to the leaded glass.

- Wildflowers in jug
Purple and yellow wildflowers add the only bright color to a sage and oak corner.
- Corner joint
Two separate cushions butt together here, which makes each easier to lift for the storage below.
- Sage side cushion
Tonal piping outlines each piece so the joint looks tidy.
- Leaded window
Green-tinted leaded glass casts light that flatters the sage bouclé.
- Book and mug
The table is set close enough that the bench works for breakfast.

Two numbers that were really an L
A couple planning a built-in lounge bench sent two numbers, 172 7/8 in and 73 1/4 in (439 and 186 cm), and asked for one big non-slip seat in plain linen, untufted, 3 1/8 in (8 cm) thick.
Two numbers usually mean a rectangle. Here they meant an L, one number per wall. Once that was clear, the workshop drew a layout of one 23½ x 73¼ in (60 x 186 cm) seat, two 23½ x 74¾ in (60 x 190 cm) seats and wedge backrests in four pieces. The notebook table reads it back in inches. What would your two numbers mean to a stranger?
- Sizes
- Walls 172 7/8 x 73 1/4 in (439 x 186 cm); seats 3 1/8 in (8 cm) thick
- Fabric
- Plain linen, not tufted
The lesson: Say whether a two-number size is a rectangle or an L; a quick drawing from the maker avoids mistakes.
Bouclé beside the other kitchen cloths
| Cloth | How it feels | Marks and snags | Cleaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bouclé | Soft, dry, looped, matte | Hides small marks; loops can catch | Zipped cover, 86°F (30°C) gentle, air dry |
| Velvet | Tight, short, non-shiny pile | Pile shades; easy to spot-clean | Same zipped-cover care |
| Soft performance weave | Thick, soft, linen-look | Durable and wipeable | Machine washable |
| Faux leather | Smooth | Wipe-clean surface | Wipe down |
For young kids at the table, the workshop points families to faux leather or an easy-care washable fabric in a light tone.
Wedges, kids and a size range
- A common question
For a deep lounge bench, should the back cushion be a wedge or a rectangle?
The workshop's answerA wedge. The standard one is 35 3/8 in (90 cm) long and 15 3/4 in (40 cm) high, 5 7/8 in (15 cm) thick at the bottom and 4 in (10 cm) at the top. A thicker ready version runs 8 5/8 in (22 cm) at the bottom and 5 7/8 in (15 cm) at the top.
- A common question
Which fabric is easiest to keep clean with messy little kids at the table?
The workshop's answerThere is a faux leather chart for wipe-clean benches, and easy-care washable fabrics in light tones. One family chose a light beige linen-look that washes at 86°F (30°C) or lower, after comparing close-up photos and videos of the swatches.
- A common question
I picked a size range that's slightly off. Can you still make my exact size?
The workshop's answerYes. The range only sets the price bracket; the cushion is cut to the size you confirm, for example 35 3/8 x 20 1/2 in (90 x 52 cm). If your payment already covers it, just message the corrected numbers before production starts.
Bouclé loops hide small marks on a kitchen bench cushion but can catch rings, claws and zipper pulls; tighter loops snag less.

Questions buyers ask next
Does bouclé snag?
It can. Loops catch on claws, rings and zipper pulls, and tighter loops snag less. A textured face hides small marks but holds pet hair.
Can a bouclé cushion cover go in the washing machine?
Yes. Turn the zipped cover inside out, wash at 86°F (30°C) or lower on a gentle cycle with mild detergent and no bleach, then air dry.
Why two cushions instead of one L on a storage bench?
Two pieces meeting at the corner fit better, ship more safely and lift one at a time, which matters when the seat is also a lid. One runs into the corner; the other is shortened by the first one's depth.
