The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

How much is an L-shaped or corner bench cushion?

An L is two benches that agreed to meet in a corner. Price it the way it is built: one side, the other side, and how deep you sit.

The quick answer

An L-shaped bench cushion is quoted from both side lengths and the seat depth, so send all three before asking for a price. The corner is often made as two cushions that meet and are priced as one set, at a standard 4 in (10 cm) height. Adding back cushions raised one outdoor L by about 30%.

Three numbers before any price

Folks write in with one number, my friend, and hope for a price. An L won't allow it. The workshop needs both side lengths and the seat depth, and it will ask for the depth before quoting a banquette, because depth is where most of the foam and fabric goes.

Most corners are built as two cushions meeting at the turn, quoted together as one set at a standard 4 in (10 cm) height. The L-shaped measuring Pattern shows where to lay the tape, and the corner joint Pattern explains which cushion runs long. You can also sketch the whole thing in the bench cushion builder.

So which side of your corner is the long one, and how deep is the seat?

A real project

The banquette called 8 feet by 7

A buyer in the US asked what a cushion would cost for a corner banquette of about 8 ft by 7 ft. Round numbers are a fine start, but the workshop wanted the real ones. They came back as 85.5 in on one side and 94.5 in on the other, 24 in deep.

The quote followed, with a small reduction on that first order. The shop also said plainly what the money buys: quality fabrics and high-density foam that last many years. Buy the cushion once, cry once.

Adding back cushions to an 84 x 84 in outdoor L-shaped cushion set raised the price by about 30%, so decide on the backs before the quote.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

What would an L-shaped outdoor couch set cost, 84 x 84 in with a 28 in depth?

    The workshop's answer

At a standard 4 in (10 cm) height, the two seat cushions forming the L were quoted as one set. With back cushions added, the total rose by about 30%.

  2. A common question

Can you quote an L-shaped bay window cushion from metric measurements?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. One L-shaped bay window seat of about 44.5 and 74.75 in (113 and 190 cm) on its sides, 22.75 in (58 cm) deep, was quoted directly from those measurements.

  3. A common question

Once I have the quote, how do I pay for a custom L?

    The workshop's answer

The shop sends a private purchase link at the quoted price. Add fabric, piping and size in the note, and send a message after paying so production starts.

  4. A common question

Is a long kitchen banquette priced any differently?

    The workshop's answer

No, it's priced by size like any bench cushion, even runs over 138 in (3.5 m), with double piping or zipper placement on request. Tufted nook sets come as one custom link, with making and delivery times confirmed in the quote.

Questions buyers ask next

Is an L usually one piece or two cushions?

Two cushions meeting at the corner is how an L is often made, and it is quoted as one set. If you want a single L-shaped piece instead, say so with your measurements so the quote reflects it.

What thickness is standard for an L-shaped bench cushion?

4 in (10 cm) is the standard height used for L-shaped quotes. If you need thinner or thicker, give that number along with your side lengths and depth so it is priced in from the start.

Do cushion sets cost less than ordering pieces one by one?

Often. Sets have been quoted below the sum of the listing prices, and larger sets and returning customers have seen bigger reductions. Ask for every piece in one quote, so the workshop prices the set together instead of cushion by cushion.
