A pink striped star floor cushion under picture-book ledges, and a letter about ordering one on time

A star tells a child where to sit. A clear order note tells the workshop when. Here is a letter about both.

High Point ·

Dear reader with a small reader at home,

A letter on pink stripes and a date on the calendar

A star floor cushion is the only cushion I know that tells a child where to sit without a word. Look at this one. Fuchsia and pink stripes, a box edge, and self piping cut from the same cloth so the stripe runs clean to the seam. It sits square in the corner of a pastel reading nook, and everything else in the photograph points at it.

I have been cutting cushions since 1968, and I still write three things on every ticket: the size, the fabric, and the date the family needs it. The date matters as much as the other two. Children have birthdays. Grandparents visit. Holidays do not move for anybody's sewing machine.

So let me tell you about a buyer who got that right, and then about the corner itself.

A real project

Two black mats and a late-November deadline

A buyer in the US wrote to the workshop needing two black linen mats at 21 x 52.25 in (53 x 133 cm), and she asked plainly whether they would arrive by late November. The workshop had her order the nearest listed option, 20 x 52 in (51 x 132 cm), and made both mats to her exact size.

Then her plans shifted, as plans do, and she asked for delivery four days earlier. The workshop agreed and shipped ahead of schedule. Nothing clever happened there, my friend. She said the size and the date out loud, early, and in writing.

The lesson carries straight over to a star for a child's corner. Order the nearest listed size, message the exact measurement, and state your deadline up front. There is more on ordering a size that is not on the menu and on what to put in the personalization note.

What the corner chose, and why each piece stays

Now the photograph. The star is the seat, and the pine picture ledges on the left turn it into a library. Books face out at a child's height, so a four-year-old can choose by the cover, which is how four-year-olds choose. A woven basket and a small succulent share the ledge with a gray moon cushion, soft things beside hard spines.

On the floor, a white basket keeps a cloud plush within arm's reach of the seat, and wooden alphabet blocks wait for whoever tires of reading. A cream cloud pillow and a gray star pillow soften the wall behind. The pastel rainbow rug on the right balances that big pink block, so the corner does not tip. Framed heart and flower prints stay gentle above, because a bold floor piece wants a calm wall.

The light is soft and warm under a fairy-lit canopy, and the pink stays cheerful in it. Notice what the arrangement does for the rest of the room: canopy, pillows and star stay together in one corner, and the carpet is left clear for play.

A seam is a promise. On a star, every point is a seam that has to hold its shape through a lot of climbing. Nurseries and playgroups have ordered stars twenty or more at a time, and the workshop has offered a bulk discount on orders like those. The whole family of star poufs is in the Atlas, along with more kids' room cushions and the striped cotton and ticking this one is cut from. What would your child's corner hold?

Buyer questions: sizes, held orders and a price question

  1. A common question

What do the modular teddy floor sofa, its ottoman and the corner version measure?

    The workshop's answer

    A single sofa base is 39 x 79 in (100 x 200 cm), and with the ottoman it becomes 79 x 79 in (200 x 200 cm). The ottoman alone is 39 x 39 in (100 x 100 cm) and about 14.5 in (37 cm) tall. The closed-corner L is 79 x 118 in (200 x 300 cm). Every size can be customized.

  2. A common question

Can I order now but have it delivered later, after I move in?

    The workshop's answer

Often, yes: in past orders the workshop held a finished piece and shipped it for the date the buyer chose, so write the date in the order notes or send a message. Changes or cancellation are possible only before production starts, and production usually starts soon after the order, so be sure of the date first.

  3. A common question

The same piece costs more on the marketplace listing than on your own website. Can you match the website price?

    The workshop's answer

Not always. Prices can differ between a marketplace listing and the workshop's own website, because marketplace fees differ. A welcome code has been offered to first-time buyers in the past, and codes haven't stacked. In one case the workshop did match its website price through a marketplace link.

Questions buyers ask next

Why does a star-shaped floor cushion work in a reading corner?

The shape reads as a seat at a glance and tucks into a corner without eating the room. Kept together with a canopy and pillows, it leaves the rest of the carpet clear for play.

Can a nursery or preschool order star poufs in bulk?

Yes. Nurseries and playgroups have ordered stars twenty or more at a time, and the workshop has offered a bulk discount on orders like those. Send the count and the fabric with your question so the quote covers the whole set.

Should a striped star pouf have self piping or contrast piping?

Self piping, cut from the same stripe, lets the pattern run to the edge without adding a color. Contrast piping would outline every point of the star, which is busier than most kids' rooms need.
