The Cutting Table · a question, worked through
Why can't I order my trapezoid cushion on the regular rectangle listing?
Because the shape changes the work, not just the outline. Here are the follow-ups, in the order they usually show up.

The quick answer
A trapezoid cushion can't use the rectangle listing because shaped cushions take extra cutting and sewing, are made on a separate production line and are priced higher. If one is ordered there anyway, the shop cancels with a full refund so you can reorder correctly, or asks for the price difference plus a photo of your shape. Declining the balance means a full refund.

“I ordered it on the normal listing. Is that okay?”
Not quite, partner, but nothing is lost. Slanted sides, rounded corners and curved fronts all count as shapes, and shapes belong on the separate custom-shape listing. When one comes through the rectangle listing, the shop does one of two things: cancels with a full refund so you can reorder on the right listing, or sends a link for the price difference. Cancel and refund is the more common route.
“Why should my shape cost more?”
Angles are just lengths in disguise, and each one has to be cut and sewn. A trapezoid cushion needs every slanted side cut to its own angle. That extra cutting and sewing is why shaped cushions are priced separately and made on a separate production line. How much more depends on the size of the cushion.
Armchair seats, narrow at the back
A buyer messaged the workshop about armchair cushions that were narrower at the back with a rounded front, and ordered them through the rectangle listing. The seat measured 19 in (48 cm) across the back, 17 in (43 cm) along each side, 22 in (56 cm) around the curved front and 20 in (51 cm) at the center, 4¾ in (12 cm) thick. The order was canceled with a full refund and placed again on the shaped listing, with a photo of the old cushion and every measurement uploaded.
“How do I settle the difference?”
Draw the shape on paper
Sketch the outline and write every side's length on it.
Photograph where it sits
The chair, bench or window seat the cushion is for.
Pay the link, or decline it
Pay and the shaped cushion goes ahead. Decline, and the order is canceled with a full refund.
“Is a plain rectangle cheaper?”
Much. In one quote for a trapezoid bench with backrests, the exact shape came to roughly twice the price of a 71 x 15¾ in (180 x 40 cm) rectangular seat with a 35½ in (90 cm) backrest. The rectangle leaves small gaps at the angled ends, and throw pillows fill them. Check both versions in the trapezoid calculator, label the sides with trapezoid measurements, and see shaped seats under dining chair cushions.
A trapezoid cushion ordered on the rectangle listing isn't made at the rectangle price: it is refunded so you can reorder, or you pay the difference.

Buyer questions
- A common question
Why can't my trapezoid cushion go through the regular rectangle listing?
The workshop's answerTrapezoids take extra cutting and sewing, so they're priced differently and made on a different production line. If one is ordered on the rectangle listing, the shop either cancels and fully refunds so you can reorder, or sends a link for the difference; once, part of that difference was waived as a discount.
- A common question
Can I put an angled or rounded shape through the rectangle listing?
The workshop's answerSlanted sides and rounded corners belong on the separate custom-shape listing. If one arrives through the rectangle listing, the shop asks for the price difference plus a photo of the shape drawn on paper and of where it will sit; if the buyer declines, the order is canceled and fully refunded.
- A common question
My bench is a trapezoid. Would a plain rectangle cost less than the exact shape with backrests?
The workshop's answerMuch less. The exact trapezoid with backrests was quoted at roughly twice a 71 x 15¾ in (180 x 40 cm) rectangular seat with backrest, and the seat alone cost less again. Throw pillows can fill the small gaps at the angled ends.
Questions buyers ask next
Does a rounded front corner count as a custom shape?
Yes. Rounded corners, slanted sides and curved fronts all go on the custom-shape listing, because each needs extra cutting and sewing. The rectangle listing covers cushions with four square corners and straight sides only.
Will I be charged extra automatically if I used the wrong listing?
No. The shop contacts you first: it either cancels and refunds in full so you can reorder, or sends a link for the difference with a request for photos. Nothing extra is taken unless you choose to pay that link.
Is the gap between trapezoid and rectangle pricing the same for every size?
No, it depends on the cushion's size. For a long trapezoid bench with backrests the exact shape ran to roughly double the rectangle version, while on smaller shaped seats the difference was a far smaller amount. Ask for a quote with your sizes.
