The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

What colors does the corduroy come in, and can I get black, maroon or lilac?

Corduroy keeps a short palette. When your color is not on it, velvet almost always is.

The quick answer

The corduroy comes in a fixed, limited palette, 9 colors on the teddy sofa listing, and black, maroon, fuchsia, lilac and lavender are not among them, with no plans to add them. Those shades are available in velvet or the plain soft fabric, both far wider ranges. Dyeing the corduroy yourself is not recommended.

“Can I get it in black?”

Not in corduroy, and not in maroon either. The corduroy range is a short, fixed palette: the teddy sofa listing offers 9 colors. Across our replies the range has run through green, brick, mustard, beige, dark brown, anthracite, off white, dark blue, indigo and silver gray. Earth, water and stone; no true black among them.

If black is the point, the sofa can be made in black velvet, or in linen, and the velvet color card is shared for every other shade.

“Then maroon, lilac or lavender?”

Those are not coming to corduroy; there are no plans to add fuchsia, lilac or lavender. They live in the plain soft fabric and in velvet, where the range is far wider, purples included.

Corduroy holds its color in the wale, the raised rib that catches light on one side and keeps a little shadow on the other. That is its charm. Its chart is simply short, and the corduroy Pattern shows how the nap changes a shade as you walk past it.

“My velvet shade is V106. Is there a corduroy twin?”

Maybe not an exact one. With so few corduroy colors, a velvet shade like V106 may have no true match. The shop sends the full corduroy chart and close-ups of any codes that look close, so you can compare them in your own light.

Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does. The Pattern on fabric swatches explains how to judge two near shades side by side.

“Could I just dye the white corduroy?”

The shop advises against it. Plain velvet comes in a much wider range, so the exact color is easier to find there, and a velvet chart is ready to send. Crushed velvet is not offered, in case that was the next thought.

Which shade are you chasing, my friends?

If the corduroy chart lacks your color, choose velvet rather than dyeing white corduroy; velvet runs to black and purples.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

What colors does the corduroy teddy sofa come in? Is black or maroon possible?

    The workshop's answer

The listing offers 9 corduroy colors. Black corduroy and maroon aren't available.

  2. A common question

Is the corduroy made in fuchsia, lilac or lavender?

    The workshop's answer

No, the corduroy doesn't come in those colors and there are no plans to add them. Fuchsia, lilac and lavender are available in the plain soft fabric and velvet ranges.

  3. A common question

My favorite velvet color is V106. Do you have it in corduroy?

    The workshop's answer

The corduroy range has few colors, so an exact match for a velvet shade like V106 may not exist. The shop sends the full corduroy chart and close-ups of any codes that look close.

  4. A common question

Could the sofa be made in black, or in regular velvet instead of corduroy?

    The workshop's answer

Black isn't available in corduroy, but the sofa can be made in black velvet or in linen, and the velvet color card is shared for other shades. Crushed velvet is not offered.

  5. A common question

Can I dye the white corduroy to get a color you don't carry?

    The workshop's answer

The shop advises against dyeing it. Plain velvet comes in a much wider range, so the exact color is easier to find there, and a velvet chart is available.

Questions buyers ask next

Is soft fabric closer to velvet or to linen?

Neither exactly. Soft fabric looks close to linen but is smoother and more uniform, without slubs, and it has no velvet pile. Velvet is the plush option with its own chart, so check which chart a color code comes from.

If I switch from corduroy to velvet, how do I clean it?

The velvet is a 100% polyester performance velvet with good stain resistance. Wipe or spot-clean spills as they happen, and machine wash the removable covers at 86°F (30°C).

Is there anything bolder than solid colors?

Yes. A patterned chart includes animal prints such as a zebra design, code P-02, usable for cushion covers and even the corner sofa. Ask for close-up photos of the codes before ordering.
