A Reading by HarlanStar Poufs & Giant Star Floor Cushions
A petrol-blue corduroy star floor cushion, read at a child's eye level
Get down on the rug, my friend. A star floor cushion ought to be read at the height of the one who sits on it, and from down here it tells a story about an order that asked more than a cushion can promise.
SaveThe quick answer
A star floor cushion is a deep, box-sided floor seat cut in a star shape, and a side view tells you more than a top view, because the depth is what lets a child sit cross-legged. Stars have been quoted at about 35½ in (90 cm) and 50 in (127 cm) across, in corduroy or in outdoor fabric.
A star floor cushion, cut through the middle
Corduroy cover. Wide-wale corduroy. The ribs run front to back over the top and wrap around the deep sides.
Rounded side. The soft, deep edge you see from the floor. This depth is what a child sits in.
Foam filling. Cut to the star. It travels vacuum-packed, so take it out of the bag within a few days of arrival.
Zipper. Hidden, so the cover comes off for washing.
Base panel. The underside that rests on the rug.
20 to 50 star cushions for a playground, and one honest answer
A buyer messaged the workshop from an indoor playground. They wanted giant star floor cushions, somewhere between 20 and 50 of them, in two sizes: about 35½ in (90 cm) and 50 in (127 cm) across. The rules for their building asked for flame-retardant fabric and flame-retardant inserts.
The fabric half could be met: the workshop said it had flame-retardant fabrics it had tested, and it offered a bulk discount for an order that size. The filling half could not. The workshop's standard filling is not certified fire-retardant, and it had no certified alternative to offer, so it said so plainly instead of hoping nobody would ask.
The buyer then weighed a third road: order the covers only and fill them with certified foam bought closer to home. That was where the conversation stood when it ended. No sale had been promised that could not be kept, and to my mind that is the result worth retelling.

What the floor sees
Somebody held the camera on the rug, and I thank them for it. From this height a star floor cushion shows what a top-down photo hides: deep, rounded sides, and one tip heading straight for you like a puppy.
The cloth is wide-wale corduroy in petrol blue. The ribs run front to back across the top and carry on around the sides, so the eye travels over the star the way a hand would. There is no piping. On a shape with this many points, a clean rounded edge is the wiser seam, and a seam is a promise.
The petrol blue is a cool color, and the room warms it from every side. A cloud-shaped wall lamp pours soft light from above. A tall yellow giraffe floor lamp stands to the right, the one upright thing balancing the low blue mass. A white voile canopy strung with fairy lights makes the corner a den, and a road-map rug says this floor is for playing, not for show.
The mustard corduroy pillow and the gray lumbar sit at the back tip. That leaves the front of the star open as seat. The white bookcase with its confetti-print boxes is within reach of whoever sits there, which is the whole idea of a kids' room corner.

What a home buyer can take from a playground order
You may never outfit a playground. The lesson still travels. When a cushion has to meet a rule, ask about the cover and the filling as two separate questions, because they are two separate things. The notes on cushions for rentals and cafés walk through what to specify.
Two smaller star-cushion truths are worth knowing too. A star can be made in outdoor fabric for a covered porch or sunroom: pick a code from the outdoor chart and write it in the order note. And a star ships vacuum-packed, so the box is far smaller than the cushion. Take it out within a few days, since a long squeeze is hard on foam. If the birthday is weeks away, order closer to it rather than keeping it boxed.
Who in your house would claim the front tip first?
Three floor-sofa questions: transit, price and frame bars
Star buyers often shop the floor sofas too. Three of their questions, with the workshop's answers.
- A common question
How long does a floor sofa take to reach the US once it ships?
The workshop's answerEverything is made to order first. After dispatch it travels by air express, my friend; ask the workshop for the current transit time and the shipping cost with your quote. Someone has to sign for the delivery, and once it lands, give the foam 3 to 5 days to come fully firm.
- A common question
The modular floor sofa shows a low starting price. Is that the whole sofa or just one piece?
The workshop's answerJust one piece. The low-priced options are single parts that people buy separately, such as one straight backrest. The complete floor sofa is a set with its own, much higher price, shown in the options.
- A common question
The metal bars for my floor sofa won't fit together. How do I put the frame up?
The workshop's answerTwist and push. Each bar has a metal insert inside that makes the joint grip firmly, and small dots have to click into place; the workshop's setup video shows it. If a joint is too tight, click each piece in and out of the corner piece a few times to loosen it, then fit them all together. A little force is normal.
For a playroom that must meet a fire rule, check the cushion fabric and the filling separately: a flame-retardant cover does not certify the foam inside.

Questions buyers ask next
Can a star floor cushion go on a covered porch?
Yes, in outdoor fabric. Choose a code from the outdoor chart and write it in the personalization box, and the star is made in that cloth. Corduroy itself is indoor-only, with no UV or water resistance.
Can I keep a star cushion boxed until a birthday?
Better not. It ships vacuum-packed, and long compression can damage the foam. Take it out within a few days of arrival, and if the date is weeks away, place the order closer to it.
Can I order just the cover and fill it myself?
Covers without filling are made to size, including covers for foam you already own. That is the road the playground buyer weighed, so certified filling could be sourced separately.
