A petrol-blue corduroy star floor cushion for a playroom full of guests
A pink niche, a giraffe lamp, a canopy strung with lights, and one cool blue star on the floor holding the party together. I read it the way I'd read a front parlor before a family supper: where does everybody sit?
The quick answer
A star floor cushion seats children on every side at once, which makes it a better gathering spot than a chair in a playroom. This one is petrol-blue corduroy with a deep box edge and no piping, the cool anchor against pink and yellow. For bigger crowds, floor sofas join 39 in (100 cm) sections into an L.
Pinned by Harlan: five marks around the blue star
Five pins mark the corduroy star, the mustard and gray pillows, the cloud lamp and the pink bookcase niche that balances all that blue.
The numbers match the pins on the plate.

Plate one: the star as the room's meeting place
My friend, a room full of children tells you where the party is by where the pillows land.
Here they land on a star floor cushion in petrol-blue corduroy. It has a box edge with deep sides and no piping at all. Corduroy doesn't need a welt. The ribs draw the outline for you, and a cord turning ten tight corners would only make lumps where you want clean points.
The color is the clever part. Everything else in the corner runs warm: a candy-pink niche around the white bookcase, a yellow giraffe lamp, black confetti-print boxes, a road-map rug with toy cars parked on it and wooden blocks scattered about. The blue star sits in the middle of all that like a cool pond, and the eye rests there. So do the children.
Plate two: two pillows, many seats
The mustard pillow repeats the giraffe lamp beside it. The gray corduroy lumbar in front shares the star's ribbed texture in a quieter color. Two pillows give two backs to lean on and leave the points free to sit on.
That is the hosting lesson in this picture. A star offers seats on every side, not only at the front. Small ones settle into the points, a grownup perches on the edge, and the pillows travel to whoever needs a back. Under the voile canopy, the cloud lamp and the fairy lights turn the same spot into a quiet reading corner once the guests go home.
Copy the color rule before you copy the shape. Pick the star in the opposite of your wall accent, blue against pink and yellow here, and find more ideas under kids' room cushions or in the playroom corner sketch. How many little ones gather on your playroom floor on a Saturday?
An L-shaped floor sofa for a whole apartment of guests
A buyer in the US wanted more seating than any one cushion gives: an L-shaped floor sofa for a city apartment, 110 x 61 in (280 x 155 cm), at the standard seat height.
The workshop explained how that shape is really built. Each section runs 39 in (100 cm) wide, so the L came together from two sofas joined by a custom link. Then the buyer asked good questions. Could the seats be made 8 in (20 cm) thick instead? What was the foam density? What was the rub count?
The answers were plain. Seat thickness on that design is fixed. The foam is about 1.75 lb/ft³ (28 kg/m³). The anthracite corduroy comes from OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified mills. Ask for the rub count in writing as well; our Pattern on Martindale and double rubs explains how to read it.
Buy the cushion once, cry once. Before a big custom order, ask for density and certification, and ask which dimensions can move and which cannot. The modular floor sofa pages show the layouts, and our corduroy library shows the ribs up close.
Buyer questions: certificates, sale prices and a set in the wrong color
- A common question
Has the fabric been treated with flame retardants, and does it carry a California Prop 65 warning?
The workshop's answerThe workshop's answer covered the fabric: it comes from OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified mills, and the certificate is shared on request. For questions about foam treatments or a Prop 65 label, ask for the answer in writing before you order.
- A common question
The sale price on the listing changed when I reached checkout. What should I do?
The workshop's answerTell the workshop where you're shipping first, because the price depends on the delivery address. Then send a screenshot so the sale can be checked and refreshed. If it still won't apply, order the pieces separately or through the website. Expired promotions have been reactivated, and sale prices held, for buyers who had to wait.
- A common question
My set arrived in a different color from the one I ordered. What happens now?
The workshop's answerSend a full photo of the set taken in good light. In one case the workshop remade the set in navy at no charge and let the buyer keep the first one. In another, it sent the correct yellow set at a reduced price and the buyer kept the pink.

If the playroom walls are warm pink and yellow, make the star floor cushion a cool petrol blue, and the busiest corner of the room settles down.

Questions buyers ask next
Why does a corduroy star floor cushion usually skip piping?
The corduroy ribs already outline each point, and a welt would have to turn ten tight corners on a five-point star. Leaving it off keeps the points crisp and the box edge clean, which suits a cushion children kneel and roll on.
What color star floor cushion suits a pink and yellow playroom?
A cool one. Petrol blue acts as the anchor here against a pink bookcase niche and a yellow giraffe lamp. As a rule, pick the star in the opposite of your wall accent and repeat the warm color in one pillow.
What should I ask before ordering a large floor sofa for guests?
Ask for the foam density, the fabric certification and which dimensions are fixed. On the workshop's floor sofas the foam is about 1.75 lb/ft³ (28 kg/m³), sections are 39 in (100 cm) wide, and seat thickness does not change.
Can a floor sofa be built as an L for a small apartment?
Yes. An L-shaped floor sofa at 110 x 61 in (280 x 155 cm) was built from two sofas joined by a custom link, because each section is 39 in (100 cm) wide. Plan your run lengths around that section width.
