A cream velvet window seat cushion with fuchsia piping, and how to order one right the first time
Rosa leans in on one velvet corner and turns it into a checklist: the codes, the swatches and the message that save a second round of emails.
The quick answer
To order a velvet window seat cushion right the first time, write two color codes, one for the body and one for the piping, give the exact size in the personalization note, and choose from swatches in your own light. Here that means cream velvet 105 with fuchsia 119 piping. When it arrives vacuum-packed, let the foam recover before measuring.

SavePinned by Rosa: five signs of a careful corner
Five pins on one corner, from the piping turn to the base welt.

- Piped corner turn
The piping turns the corner without puckering, the first sign of careful sewing.
- Vertical gusset seam
The corner seam drops straight down rather than twisting.
- Cream velvet pile
All panels are cut with the nap running one way, so the shade stays even.
- Bottom fuchsia piping
A second welt on the base keeps the lower edge as sharp as the top.
- Smooth seat top
Firm foam fills the cover right to the edge with no slack.

What one corner gives away
Neighbor, if you want to know whether a cushion was made with care, skip the middle and look at a corner. This window seat cushion is cream velvet with fuchsia piping, codes 105 and 119, and its corner passes every test I know.
The piping turns without puckering. The gusset seam drops straight down from it instead of twisting. The pile looks even on every panel, because each piece was cut with the nap running one way; pale velvet shows every change of direction, so that care is plain to see. A second fuchsia welt runs along the base and keeps the bottom edge as sharp as the top, and the foam fills the cover right to the edge.
The raspberry cord is not only pretty. On a light velvet seat the edge takes the knocks, from knees and laundry baskets and the family cat, and a darker welt keeps it looking clean longer. The gallery around it plays the same game in teal with cream piping, burnt orange in a sunroom and royal blue on a stair landing. Care notes are in velvet bench cushion care, the cloth itself in our velvet library, and more seats under window seat cushions and bedroom cushions. Which two codes are on your shortlist?
The order message that gets it right the first time
Two codes, not one
Write the body color and the piping color as numbers, like velvet 105 with 119 piping. A word like cream covers a dozen shades.
Swatches in your own light
Order samples and hold them by your window morning and evening. Pale velvet shifts with the direction of the pile and the time of day.
Your exact size in the note
Pick the size range that covers your seat, then write the exact length, depth and thickness in the personalization note. If the numbers fall outside the range you bought, expect the shop to pause and ask.
Odd shape? Send a drawing
Rounded ends, cut-outs and angles go on a paper drawing with every dimension marked.
Measure after recovery
A vacuum-packed cushion needs days to come back to full size. Measure after about a week, then write back if something is off.
