Camel corduroy on a pine hall bench: an entryway cushion for every season

Sage wall, pine bench, a khaki jacket on the hook. Élodie reads the palette of a small entryway and follows it from mud season to snow.

The quick answer

A mid-tone ribbed fabric like camel corduroy is the most forgiving entryway bench cushion through the year, because it hides dust and brushes clean. Here it sits a touch inside a pine bench top against a sage wall. Choose a removable zippered cover so it can be washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) program.

Swatch strip: six colors by the front door

  • Camel corduroy#B68A5AThe cushion; warm in winter lamplight, still easy on the eye in July.
  • Pine#D2A86EBench and mirror frame, the honeyed wood that camel sits beside.
  • Khaki field jacket#8C8458A spring and fall regular on the hook, in the cushion's warm family.
  • Sage wall#A7B39AThe cool ground that makes every warm tone read warmer.
  • Seagrass#B9A77AThe basket: hats and scarves in winter, leashes all year.
  • Jute#C2A97EThe rug by the door, repeating the rib of the corduroy underfoot.

Pinned by Élodie in the sage entryway

Five pins: the camel corduroy pad, the khaki jacket, the pine mirror, the seagrass basket and the jute rug.

  1. Camel corduroy pad

The cushion sits a touch inside the bench top, leaving a thin pine reveal that frames it.

  2. Khaki jacket

The coat sits in the same warm family as the cushion and pine.

  3. Pine mirror

Matching the mirror frame to the bench ties the wall together.

  4. Seagrass basket

A basket beside the bench catches scarves and dog leads.

  5. Jute rug

Hard-wearing jute suits a doorway and repeats the cushion's texture.

One warm family on a cool wall, through four seasons

Camel sits between the pine and the khaki coat, so this corner reads as one warm family against a cool sage wall. That is the whole palette, my friends. Everything else is weather.

The cushion stops a touch inside the bench top, leaving a thin reveal of pine that frames it like a mat around a print. The box edge is self-piped in the same corduroy, so the outline is there but quiet. The pine mirror above matches the bench and ties the wall together.

Winter. Short days, low light. Camel glows warmer under a lamp, and the ribbed pile hides the grit that comes in on boots. The seagrass basket fills with hats and scarves.

Spring. Mud season, when a removable cover earns its keep. Unzip it and wash it gentle and cool; how to wash cushion covers has the details.

Summer. The door stays open and the light turns bright and cool on the sage. Camel keeps the bench from looking wintry even in July. The jacket goes to the closet; the gray sneakers stay.

Fall. Back to the hooks. A mudroom bench cushion in a mid tone is easiest to live with when leaves come in on everyone's shoes.

Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does. Before choosing camel or tan, hold the swatch by your own front door. What light does your entry get in winter?

A real project

Seven corduroy cushions, measured in centimeters

A buyer got in touch needing seven corduroy cushions for benches and seats: one long piece of 70.9 x 17.7 in (180 x 45 cm), four at 29.5 x 17.7 in (75 x 45 cm), one at 13.8 x 17.7 in (35 x 45 cm) and one at 11.8 x 17.7 in (30 x 45 cm).

Two changes came before the order. The thickness went up to 4 in (10 cm), which raised the quote, and the buyer swapped one corduroy shade for a neighbor on the chart. They had measured in centimeters, and when the numbers got muddled they resent every size in centimeters. That settled it.

Later they asked how to wash the covers: 86°F (30°C) on a gentle program, the right answer for corduroy. The lesson is simple. Send sizes in the unit you actually measured in; converting late invites confusion. The bench measuring guide keeps it tidy.

Sizes
½ x 70¾ x 17¾ in (1 x 180 x 45 cm), 1½ x 29½ x 17¾ in (4 x 75 x 45 cm), ½ x 13¾ x 17¾ in (1 x 35 x 45 cm), ½ x 11¾ x 17¾ in (1 x 30 x 45 cm), all 4 in (10 cm) thick

The lesson: Send sizes in the unit you actually measured in; converting inches to cm late causes confusion.

Buyer questions: raspberry stripes, foam and the price question

  1. A common question

Which of your striped fabrics comes closest to raspberry?

    The workshop's answer

One stripe is the closest: a vivid pinkish-red with a berry feel. Its neighbor on the chart is a muted, dustier version of a similar tone, and a third reads as a classic true red rather than raspberry.

  2. A common question

Does the custom bench cushion come with foam, or just the cover?

    The workshop's answer

Foam is included. Cushions ship complete, filled with high-density comfort foam, not as empty covers. Covers only can be ordered if you ask, and the cover is removable with a zipper and machine washable.

  3. A common question

What does a custom bench cushion cost?

    The workshop's answer

It depends on the exact size, thickness and fabric, so every cushion is quoted from your numbers. Recent quotes ran from a slim 13 x 70 in (33 x 178 cm) bench pad to a tufted 63.8 x 17.7 in (162 x 45 cm) cushion and a 4 in thick 55 x 31.5 in (140 x 80 cm) pallet cushion. Send your sizes, thickness and fabric for a quote.

A mid-tone camel corduroy entryway bench cushion hides the dust of four seasons, and its zippered cover washes gentle at 86°F (30°C).

Questions buyers ask next

What fabric works best on an entryway bench cushion?

A mid-tone ribbed fabric such as corduroy. It hides dust between cleanings, brushes clean, and feels warm in winter without looking heavy in summer. Pair it with a removable zippered cover so it can go in the wash.

Should an entryway bench cushion cover the whole bench top?

Not always. Stopping a touch inside the edge leaves a thin wood reveal that frames the cushion neatly. Measure the bench top itself, then choose between a flush fit and a framed one.

How do I wash a corduroy bench cushion cover?

Unzip the cover and wash it at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle program. Close the zipper before it goes in the machine, and let the cover dry fully before the foam goes back inside.

What cushion color goes with a sage green entryway?

Warm mid tones such as camel, tan, rust or mustard. They sit opposite the cool green and read as one family with pine or oak furniture. Keep the rest natural: jute, seagrass and wood.
