The Cutting Table · compared on the table

Are your cushion prices in US dollars or my local currency?

Also asked as:Are the prices in CAD or USD?Is the price in dollars?

One currency on the quote, and it doesn't drift. The only thing that moves is the exchange rate, and that weather isn't made in the workshop.

The quick answer

Every cushion price and custom quote is set in US dollars, and if your marketplace account uses another currency, the marketplace converts the price at checkout at its own daily rate, which the shop doesn't control, so you pay the local equivalent. Check the country and currency in your account settings before paying; on the shop's own website, Canadian dollars convert automatically.

The tide under the price

The dollar figure on a quote doesn't move. The exchange rate under it does, a little every day, like a tide under a moored boat. The marketplace applies its own daily rate at checkout, and the shop has no hand on that line. Rain doesn't negotiate, and neither does an exchange rate.

If you buy in the US with your account set to US dollars, there is nothing to convert: the number you are quoted is the number you pay. If your account is set to another country or currency, check those settings before you pay, friend. They decide what the checkout shows.

Four checks before you pay

  1. Read the quote in dollars

The US dollar figure is the price the shop set.

  2. Check your account

Confirm the country and currency in your marketplace settings.

  3. Look at the checkout total

Another currency there is the marketplace's conversion at its daily rate, not a new quote.

  4. Ask before paying

If the total still looks off, message the shop before you pay.

What moves a quote, and what doesn't

Size moves a quote; the fabric usually doesn't. Velvet, linen and the cotton-type fabric cost the same, because price follows size. To bring a quote down, the shop can switch to a cheaper velvet grade and lower-density foam, which once cut a bench quote about 14%.

For a porch swing cushion or a set of outdoor cushions, the quote checklist lists what to send. Which currency does your checkout show?

Before paying for custom cushions, check the country and currency in your account settings; they decide whether checkout shows US dollars or your own currency.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Is your quote in my currency?

    The workshop's answer

No, quotes are in US dollars. The marketplace converts automatically at checkout, so you pay the local equivalent.

  2. A common question

Your prices are in dollars. What exchange rate will I pay?

    The workshop's answer

All prices are listed in US dollars, and the marketplace converts them to your currency at checkout using its own daily rate, which the shop doesn't control.

  3. A common question

Are your prices in Canadian or US dollars?

    The workshop's answer

US dollars. Set your country and currency on the marketplace to see the converted price; on the shop's own website, Canadian dollars are converted automatically.

  4. A common question

Are prices in US dollars or in local currency?

    The workshop's answer

Prices are set in US dollars and converted according to the country and currency in your account, so check those settings before paying.

Questions buyers ask next

Does a thicker custom cushion cost more?

A little within 2-5 in (5-13 cm), where length and width matter more and thin cushions aren't much cheaper. Very tall pieces cost far more: a 12 in (30 cm) cushion was listed at twice the 6 in (15 cm) price.

Is the price the same on the shop's own website?

Usually not, because commissions keep marketplace prices higher. The shop has canceled a marketplace order so a buyer could rebuy on the website, refunded part of the difference, and once matched the website price with a custom link.

If I live in the US, is any currency conversion involved?

Not if your account is set to the US and US dollars: the price you see is the dollar price the shop set. Conversion only happens when the account uses another country or currency.
