Can you make a cushion with the corners cut off?

Also asked as:Front two corners are cut off.Needs 3 inches off two corners.

Yes, and it is one of the tidier odd shapes. Each clipped corner is two numbers, partner. Give both and the cut follows your drawing exactly.

The quick answer

Yes, a clipped corner cushion is made to order through the custom-shape order page. Select the size by the cushion's widest depth and longest length, then upload a drawing with every edge measured, including how far each angled corner cuts in along both sides. The corners are cut exactly to the drawing, in fabric from any collection.

Two numbers per corner

A clipped corner on a bench cushion is a small triangle taken off a rectangle. Its two short sides are the distances the cut runs along each edge, measured from where the square corner would have been. Write both, even when they match.

Then measure the angled edge as a check. Angles are just lengths in disguise: a 3 in by 3 in clip comes out about 4 1/4 in (10.8 cm) across. A tape far from that means one number is off.

How far in does your corner cut, along each edge? The custom shape drawing pattern shows how to mark it on paper.

A clipped corner cushion is ordered by its widest depth and longest length; the drawing with each corner's cut-in distances decides the shape.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

My seat has its two front corners cut off. Can you make a seat pad in that shape?

    The workshop's answer

Yes, through the trapezoid order page. Upload a drawing with every edge measured, including how far the angled corner cuts in on each side, and the cushion is sewn exactly to that drawing.

  2. A common question

Can you make a cushion that isn't square, with 3 inches cut off two corners?

    The workshop's answer

Yes, cut corners are no problem. Select the size by the widest depth and longest length, upload your drawing, and the corners are cut to it.

  3. A common question

Can a clipped trapezoid be made in a fabric from another collection?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Order the trapezoid shape with all dimensions and write the fabric codes in the personalization notes, main fabric and piping separately.

  4. A common question

What if the slanted sides on my drawing don't add up?

    The workshop's answer

Top, bottom and depth decide the slanted sides, which must be longer than the depth. The workshop recalculates, flags mismatches (about 1 in is common) and asks which number to keep.

Questions buyers ask next

Can a cushion have just one corner clipped?

Yes. A back corner removed to clear a window ledge is a real request. Draw the full outline and write how far the cut runs along each of the two edges it meets.

Is a clipped corner the same as a rounded corner?

No. A clipped corner is a straight diagonal cut, set by two distances. A rounded corner follows a curve and is measured differently; see rounded corners in the glossary.

Do I need a paper template for cut-off corners?

No. A drawing on paper with every size written on it, or a photo with the sizes marked, is enough for straight cuts. The workshop quotes from it and cuts the corners to match.
