A Reading by HanaKids' Floor Sofas & Play Couches
A rust corduroy rainbow set for small children, read from ten feet and from ten inches
Hana reads one close photograph of a corduroy rainbow set twice: once from across the playroom, once at the height of a small hand.
SaveThe quick answer
A kids floor sofa in corduroy should be judged twice: from across the room for its color contrast, and up close for wale width and pile. From ten feet, rust, espresso and cream read as three clear bands. From ten inches, you see the soft pile between the ribs. Ask the maker for a close photo before choosing.
Ten feet, then ten inches
Most people choose a kids floor sofa from ten feet away. The fabric is decided at ten inches.
At ten feet. The set is simple. A rust face at the back. An espresso arch in the middle. A cream dome in front. Three values, dark to light, on a cream jute rug by a window with a sheer curtain.
The espresso does quiet work. Set between rust and cream, it makes the dome look brighter than it is. That contrast is what reads from the doorway. Pile and wale do not. A framed print on the wall stays small and pale, and leaves the color to the set.
At ten inches. The frame is tight on purpose. A toddler in sage reaches down and rests a hand on the cream dome. The surface gives a little. You can see it give.
Between the ribs of the rust face there is a velvety sheen. That pile is why corduroy feels warmer than a flat cotton. On the dome, the ribs curve over the rounded top without twisting. That takes careful cutting over curved foam.
The sage outfit is the one cool note. Without it the frame would be all orange and brown.
Children measure comfort with their whole body. They lean, climb, press. So the close-up matters more than the room shot. What would a photo taken at the height of your child's hand tell you?
See sizes and builds in kids floor sofas, rib widths on the corduroy shelf, and wale and nap direction. For ages, read kids floor sofa size by age.
Color is for the room. Pile is for the hand. Choose with both.
Notebook table: what each distance tells you
| Distance | What you can judge | What you cannot |
|---|---|---|
| 10 ft (3 m) | Color order, the contrast of rust, espresso and cream, size in the room | Wale width, pile depth, how ribs follow a curve |
| 3 ft (1 m) | The shape of each arch and the dome, where the pieces meet | Softness under a hand |
| 10 in (25 cm) | Pile sheen between ribs, rib direction over the dome | How the whole set sits in the room |

Two classrooms and a size with no unit
A childcare center wrote to the workshop for two classrooms. First came two corner cushions, 40 x 40 in (102 x 102 cm), one yellow and one mint.
Later they ordered a beige tufted rectangle. They wrote the size as 740 x 1040. No unit.
The workshop first read it as meters. Then it was sorted out: the numbers were millimeters, about 29 x 41 in. The center selected the 28 x 43 in (70 x 110 cm) option, and the piece was made at 29¼ x 41 in (74 x 104 cm). The workshop also noted that tufted, handmade pieces can vary by 1 to 2 in (2.5 to 5 cm).
Write the unit after every number. Inches, centimeters, millimeters. It costs two letters.
Buyer questions: support bars, and a green that looks olive
- A common question
Can I buy only the metal support bars for my teddy-style floor sofa?
The workshop's answerThe bars aren't sold on their own. If you order an extra set of teddy sofa covers, the bars can be added for an extra charge, and they have also been offered as a paid add-on to a covers-only order.
- A common question
The green in your photos looks olive to me. Which color on the swatch card should I pick?
The workshop's answerPick khaki. That is the olive or moss green you see in the photos. The swatch card also has a separate olive green, but khaki is closer to most of the olive references buyers send.
- A common question
Could I get just the metal frame, even for a DIY or art project, or in a custom size?
The workshop's answerThe metal frames aren't sold as a product on their own, not for DIY or art projects either, and they aren't made in custom sizes. Existing owners who need replacements have been sent a standard bar set for the cost of shipping, and bars can be added to a covers-only order for an extra charge.

From ten feet a corduroy rainbow set is three colors; from ten inches it is ribs and pile, so judge the fabric in a close-up photo.

Questions buyers ask next
Is corduroy a good fabric for a toddler's floor sofa?
Its pile between the ribs feels warmer and softer under a hand than a flat cotton, and the ribs give a texture small children can feel. Ask for a close photo to judge wale width and pile depth before you order.
Why does a cream piece look brighter next to a dark one?
Contrast. Beside espresso brown, a cream dome reads lighter than it would alone, and that value step is what you notice from across a room. Place the darkest piece between the two lighter ones to get the effect.
Should I write custom sizes in inches or centimeters?
Either works, as long as the unit follows every number. A size written as 740 x 1040 with no unit was once read as meters when it meant millimeters. Writing mm, cm or in after each figure prevents that.
How exact is a handmade tufted floor cushion?
Close, but not machine-exact. The workshop notes that tufted, handmade pieces can vary by 1 to 2 in (2.5 to 5 cm). Allow for that when a piece has to fit between two walls or beside furniture.
