Before and after one custom bench cushion: taupe stripes on a mobile home deck
Callum reads a gray seaside deck where one striped cushion did the whole makeover, and explains how to make sure the extras you ask for actually arrive.
The quick answer
One striped custom bench cushion can remake a small deck if the stripe holds both your decking color and your wood color. Here taupe, cream and brown link gray boards to a golden pine bench. Cut the cushion flush with the bench top, write extras such as straps in the personalization box, and confirm them by message after you order.
Pinned by Callum: the taupe stripe deck bench
Five pins across a gray deck, from the plaid blanket at the end of the bench to the row of homes on the grass.
The numbers match the pins on the plate.

The bench before the cushion
Picture the deck without it. Gray composite boards, white railings, cream vinyl siding, a white vinyl window, all pale and cool under flat seaside light. And one chunky pine bench, golden and bare, looking like it wandered over from somebody else's cabin.
Now add the custom bench cushion. Taupe, cream and chocolate stripes run along the length, the same direction as the siding behind, so the seat lines up with the house. The taupe bridges gray and pine, the brown picks up the wood, the cream matches the walls. One piece of fabric, and the bench belongs.
It sits flush with the bench top on all four sides. On a narrow deck that isn't fussiness; anything hanging over catches knees on the way to the door. Self piping gives the box edge a tailored line even on a plain pine frame.
The props are few and honest. A folded red and gray plaid blanket waits at one end, which tells you the seat gets used on cool evenings. A steel thermos says morning coffee. Beyond the railing, a row of green mobile homes sits on the grass, and a neutral stripe is at home in any vacation park like that.
Bring them in before the first frost and they'll forgive you everything, cushion and blanket both. More seats like this live in bench cushions, outdoor acrylic and boat and RV cushions. What color is your decking, friend, and what color is your bench?
The deck bench before and after its striped cushion
| Bare pine bench | With the taupe stripe cushion | |
|---|---|---|
| Color | Golden pine alone against gray and cream | Taupe links deck gray to pine; brown echoes the wood |
| Line | A chunky slab with no direction | Stripes run with the siding, so the bench reads longer |
| Comfort | A place to perch for a minute | A seat for a whole morning coffee |
| Edge | Square wood corners | Self-piped box edge, flush on all sides |
| Story | Nobody lingers here | A plaid blanket and a thermos say somebody does |
The straps that went missing
A buyer wrote in wanting two straps on their bench cushion, and typed the request into the dimensions box. The cushion arrived without them. The workshop owned it: production had missed the note. They made a new cover with straps.
The buyer offered to split the cost of the second cover and kept the first one as a spare. Fair people on both ends of that deal.
Here's the lesson for any deck where wind or a slick bench top makes straps worth having. Write extras in the personalization text on a line of their own, not squeezed in beside the numbers, and send a short message after you order to confirm them. The Pattern on personalization notes shows what to write.
The lesson: Put extras like straps in the personalization text and confirm them by message after ordering.
Buyer questions: odd sizes, extra thickness, real linen
- A common question
The listing won't let me type my exact size. How do I order a custom one?
The workshop's answerChoose the size range your measurements fall into, or the closest one, then write your exact size, fabric and piping in the Add Personalization box. The cushion is cut to what you write. If one side is smaller than the smallest option, pick the dimensions the other way round; the price is the same.
- A common question
Is 4 inches as thick as you go? I'd like 5, 6 or even 8.
The workshop's answerThickness is fully customizable. The shop has made 5 in, 6 in (15 cm) and 8 in (about 20 cm) cushions, and says it can go up to about 15 3/4 in (40 cm).
- A common question
Is your linen real linen or a look-alike, and what are the striped fabrics made of?
The workshop's answerOne linen range is 50% cotton and 50% linen, another is a linen-look polyester, and the K range is linen. The striped fabrics in that collection are all 100% cotton.

Short list: size, sun hours, how fast it has to dry. The workshop goes through it with you. — Callum
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
On a small deck, choose a bench cushion stripe that contains both your decking color and your wood color; the cushion then ties the two together.

Questions buyers ask next
What stripe color works on a gray composite deck?
Pick a stripe that holds both the deck gray and the color of your bench wood. Taupe, cream and brown, as here, bridge cool gray boards and a golden pine frame, so the cushion connects them instead of adding a third story.
Can one cushion really change how a small deck looks?
It can when the bench is the main piece of furniture. A striped cushion that runs with the siding and repeats the deck and wood colors turns a bare slab into a seat that looks planned for the space.
How do I make sure extras like straps are included?
Write them in the personalization text on their own line, not beside the dimensions, and send a short message after ordering to confirm. One buyer's straps were missed when the request sat in the dimensions box.
Which cushions suit a camper or mobile home deck?
Box cushions in outdoor fabric with a neutral stripe, cut flush to the bench so nothing catches knees on a narrow deck. Store them inside when you close up for the season, along with any blankets.
