A Reading by ÉlodieLumbar Pillows
One navy ticking lumbar pillow, two piped navy shams, and a bed made over around a single stripe
Élodie builds a bed from the front pillow backward: how a white bed reads without it, what one striped lumbar changes, and why only the solids wear piping.
The quick answer
To make over a bed around one lumbar pillow, choose the stripe first, then order solid shams in the exact navy of the stripe's dark line. Pipe the solids and leave the stripe plain, because the stripes already give it an edge. Warm wood and one natural accent, like dried wheat, keep a navy and white bed from feeling cold.

SaveFive pins across the headboard
Five pins move from the ticking lumbar to the dried wheat, tracing how one shared navy holds a whole bed together.

- Navy ticking lumbar
The stripe's dark line is the same navy as the solid shams, so the set looks planned.
- Navy stripe square
A striped square repeats the lumbar pattern in the center.
- Piped navy sham
Self piping sharpens the solid sham, while the striped pieces stay plain.
- Navy sham right
The right sham's piped edge catches the light along its top.
- Dried wheat
Golden wheat and a ceramic vase add warmth to a cool nautical palette.

Reading the bed from the lumbar outward
My friends, start with the smallest pillow. It sets the whole bed.
In front sits a navy and cream narrow-stripe lumbar pillow, knife-edged, no piping. Its dark line is the same navy as the two solid euro shams behind it, and that single shared navy is why the set looks planned rather than collected. Let one color speak and the others listen: here navy speaks twice, once as a line and once as a block.
The shams wear self piping, which sharpens their square outline; the right one catches the window light along its top edge. The striped lumbar and the striped square stay plain, because a stripe already has an edge of its own. A welt on a stripe is like underlining a sentence already set in bold.
Behind them, white pillows and a white linen duvet keep the palette crisp. A honey oak panel headboard warms the navy from behind. To one side, dried wheat in a ceramic vase and a small ceramic bowl bring a harvest-gold note, so a nautical scheme doesn't turn chilly.
To copy it: order a solid and a ticking stripe that share one navy, pipe only the solids, and keep one warm wood or natural accent in view. The pillow cover studio lets you try the piping on and off.
Which pillow on your bed would you start with?
