A dove gray hexagon daybed cushion with two square back pillows, read for a small room
A white corner, a floating oak platform, one gray hexagon pattern. The room is small. The daybed reads as one block, so the room does not feel crowded.

The quick answer
A daybed cushion suits a small room best when the mattress and back pillows share one fabric, so the piece reads as a single block. Keep one continuous seat for lying down and loose back pillows instead of a fixed back. One real set used a 76 x 36 x 6.5 in (193 x 91 x 16.5 cm) mattress, three 22 in (56 cm) backs and two bolsters.
Swatch strip: six colors from one white corner
- Dove gray#B9BBB8The hexagon ground. Soft enough to fill a wall without weight.
- Chalk white#F2F1EDHexagon outlines and walls, one continuous white.
- Pale oak#C9A77CThe floating platform. The only warm tone.
- Lamp black#1E1E1EOne thin line that draws the hexagons again, larger.
- Fig leaf green#5E7152The weeping fig. Life in a hard corner.
- Cream wool#E8E0D0The rug. A shade softer than the walls.
Edges crowd a small room, not size
Small rooms are crowded by edges more than by size. Every change of fabric is an edge. This daybed cushion has almost none.
The mattress is one continuous piece, deep enough to lie on. Two square back pillows in the same dove gray hexagon lean against the wall. There is no fixed back, so the platform stays low and the wall stays visible above it. The eye reads one gray block on one oak line.
The pattern is a woven jacquard: white hexagon outlines on gray. From across the room it reads as texture. Up close it reads as geometry. Both are quiet.
The oak platform floats on a recessed plinth. You see shadow underneath instead of legs, and the floor seems to run on under it. Leave a hand's width of floor, and a room breathes.
The slim black lamp draws the hexagon outline again, in a single line. The weeping fig in its stone planter softens the hard corner. The cream wool rug sits a shade softer than the walls. Which wall in your home could take a daybed like this?
Pinned by Hana: four marks in a white corner
Four pins, from the hexagon mattress to the floating oak base.

- Hexagon daybed mattress
One continuous seat cushion keeps the daybed usable for lying down.
- Matching square backs
Two square back pillows in the same hexagon lean on the wall, so no frame back is needed.
- Black reading lamp
A slim black lamp adds a graphic line that echoes the hexagon outlines.
- Floating oak base
A recessed plinth makes the platform hover and keeps the piece light.

A daybed that became a sofa by day
One buyer wrote in with a daybed and a patterned fabric she loved. The set: a mattress cover 76 x 36 x 6.5 in (193 x 91 x 16.5 cm), three 22 x 22 in (56 x 56 cm) back cushions and two bolsters.
The workshop sent photos of two back styles, soft pillows and foam wedges. She chose pillows. Then she changed some sizes, and the custom listing was updated to match. The bolsters became 36 x 10 in (91 x 25 cm), as long as the mattress is deep.
She wrote back about beautiful quality and a perfect fit. Bolsters at the ends, pillow backs along the wall: a sofa by day, a bed at night. More sets like this are in daybed sofa cushion sets and styling a daybed like a sofa.
One fabric.
One continuous seat.
Backs that lean, not a back that is built.

The lesson: Bolsters at each end plus pillow backs turn a daybed into a sofa by day.

Buyer questions: a Kallax bench, a daybed without arms and a kids' bed
- A common question
Can you make a cushion that turns IKEA Kallax units into banquette seating for my kitchen?
The workshop's answerYes. A 15 3/8 x 57 5/8 in (39 x 146 cm) cushion was made for Kallax banquette seating, cut to those exact dimensions in the buyer's choice of fabric and color.
- A common question
My daybed has no arms. Can I order the slipcover and backrests without the armrests?
The workshop's answerYes. The workshop switched on a slipcover-plus-backrests option in the listing, so the buyer could order just those pieces.
- A common question
Is the mattress included with the kids' foam play bed, and what sizes are there?
The workshop's answerYes, the mattress is included. It comes in three sizes: 35 x 75 in (89 x 191 cm), 45 x 75 in (114 x 191 cm) and 55 x 79 in (140 x 201 cm). On that order the workshop also offered two matching pillows as a gift, in a shape of the buyer's choice.
In a small room, make the daybed mattress and back pillows from one fabric. Every change of fabric is an edge, and edges are what crowd a room.

Questions buyers ask next
Why use one fabric on a daybed in a small room?
Every change of fabric draws an edge, and edges make a small room feel busy. When the mattress and back pillows share one pattern, the daybed reads as a single block, and the room around it looks calmer and wider.
Pillow backs or foam wedge backs for a daybed?
Both are made. Soft pillows lean against the wall and can be moved or taken away; foam wedges hold a firmer, more upright shape. One buyer saw photos of both before choosing pillows for a daybed dressed as a sofa.
How long should daybed bolsters be?
Match the bolster length to the mattress depth, so each bolster spans one end. A 36 in (91 cm) deep daybed mattress took two 36 x 10 in (91 x 25 cm) bolsters, one at each end.
