Forest green faux leather on a walnut daybed: the props around one cushion, seen from above
Three buyers asked Hana about daybeds before she looked at this one. Then a quiet reading: one green seat, one bolster, and the few things placed around them.
SaveThe quick answer
A saturated daybed cushion, like this forest green faux leather, works when every other surface stays a warm neutral and the color is echoed once, in art or a plant, on the same wall. One round bolster against the wall replaces a backrest and leaves the full seat depth free. Keep the side table at seat height.
Buyer questions
- A common question
What size cover do I need for an IKEA Hemnes daybed with two mattresses stacked?
The workshop's answerIt depends on where the daybed was bought, because Hemnes sizes vary by country, so the workshop checks before cutting. It assumed 39 x 74¾ in (99 x 190 cm) for a US version, but one buyer's mattresses measured 31½ x 78¾ in (80 x 200 cm). Two stacked mattresses stand about 7⅞ to 9½ in (20 to 24 cm) tall, and one cover can wrap both. The cover is cut slightly larger so the mattresses slide in easily.
- A common question
Can I buy just the mattress cover and the back cushions, and skip the round bolsters?
The workshop's answerYes: choose the 'mattress cover with backrests' option. Compare that quote with the full set's quote before you decide. For a 35⅜ x 74¾ x 9⅞ in (90 x 190 x 25 cm) trundle mattress, the back cushions were made 12⅝ to 13⅜ in (32 to 34 cm) high.
- A common question
I ordered off-white velvet and it looks beige. Did I get the wrong fabric?
The workshop's answerProbably not. Velvet has a directional pile, so the same cloth looks lighter, darker or warmer depending on which way it is brushed, the angle you view it from and the light. Brush the pile the other way and look at it in daylight. Here the workshop confirmed the correct off-white had been used, and its photo taken before shipping matched the chart.
Now, the reading
One green, and what keeps it calm
Green is a loud word. In this room it speaks quietly.
Seen from above, the proportions are easy to read. A thick boxed daybed cushion in forest green faux leather sits on a slim walnut frame. The top is tight and smooth, with no tufting. A matching welt traces the outline. A contrast cord would argue with the walnut; this one agrees.
There is no backrest. One round bolster lies flush against the wall and does that job, which leaves the full seat depth free for lying down with a book. The sunny corner beside a tall window turns the whole daybed into a reading nook. Sizing a bolster is its own small study, laid out in the bolster pattern.
Then the props, each placed for a reason.
- The walnut open side cabinet stands at seat height. It is the side table, and it repeats the frame's wood. Height is a feeling; a cup should be where your hand already is.
- A stack of coffee-table books gives the cabinet weight.
- Two framed leaf prints on the clay-plaster wall repeat the green in softer shades, so the cushion color looks planned.
- A rubber plant in a white planter does the same in three dimensions.
- A chunky jute rug and the brass-capped frame leg keep everything warm underfoot.
Every other surface is a warm neutral. That is why the eye lands on the seat first. Where would your echo go: a print, a plant, a row of book spines?
The faux leather family and more frames are in daybed cushions, and single rolls like this one in bolster pillows.
One color. Echoed once. Everything else stays quiet.
Pinned by Hana
Five pins: the round bolster, the smooth top, the self welt, the walnut cabinet and the leaf prints above.

- Round bolster
Set flush against the wall, the bolster leaves the full seat depth free for lounging.
- Smooth seat top
Seen from above, a tight leather-look top stays smooth without any tufting.
- Self welt edge
A matching welt traces the outline; a contrast cord in green would compete with the walnut.
- Walnut side cabinet
An open cube at seat height serves as side table and repeats the frame's wood.
- Leaf prints
Botanical art echoes the green so the cushion color looks planned, not random.

Copying the green corner
- Pick one saturated color for the cushion and let it stand alone on the seat.
- Keep the frame, rug and wall in warm neutrals: walnut, jute, plaster.
- Echo the color once on the same wall, in art or a plant, a shade softer.
- Use one bolster along the wall instead of a row of pillows.
- Set an open side table at seat height, books below, cup on top.
A yellow bed for summer guests
A buyer in the US wrote to the workshop about a yellow daybed cushion. Guests would sleep on it in hot summers. Nothing scratchy, nothing plush.
The workshop matched the color in a breathable soft polyester weave with self-colored piping, and made it at 23⅝ x 79½ in (60 x 202 cm), moved ahead in the queue for a July deadline.
The courier left the parcel in an unsecured lobby. It disappeared. The workshop opened a claim with the carrier and remade the cushion, charging only the shipping.
Two lessons. For a surface people sleep on, choose a smooth, breathable fabric; a faux leather like the one above is for lounging and wiping clean. And give the courier secure delivery instructions.

A forest green daybed cushion looks planned when the green appears once more on the same wall, in a print or a plant, and nowhere else.

Questions buyers ask next
Is faux leather a good choice for a daybed guests sleep on?
It is better for lounging than for sleeping. A leather-look surface wipes clean and stays smooth, but in a warm room a breathable woven fabric feels cooler against skin. For overnight guests, choose a smooth, breathable weave and keep faux leather for reading and naps.
One bolster or two on a daybed that stands against a wall?
When the long side of the daybed runs along a wall, one round bolster laid against it acts as the backrest and leaves the whole seat depth free. Two bolsters at the ends give a sofa shape but shorten the length you can lie on.
How do I keep a green cushion from looking random in a neutral room?
Repeat the green once, softer, on the same wall: a botanical print, a plant, a book spine. Here leaf prints and a rubber plant do it. Keep everything else warm neutral, walnut, jute and plaster, so the eye lands on the seat first.
