The Cutting Table · a common question
Can one cover fit two mattresses stacked on my daybed?
Also asked as:Two mattresses stacked together, one cover? Two mattresses total 9¾ in (25 cm) high. Can I fit them?
Two mattresses become one seat. Give them one cover, cut to the height of both.
The quick answer
One zippered cover can enclose two stacked mattresses: order it at the mattress length and width plus the combined height of both. Two 4.75 in (12 cm) twin mattresses need a 9.5-10 in (24-25 cm) cover, not 8 in. Don't order two separate covers for a stacked pair; they came out too tight. The zipper is placed so both mattresses slide in.

Stacked pairs, and the one cover each got
| Stacked pair | Combined height | One cover ordered |
|---|---|---|
| Two IKEA MORGEDAL, 7 in (18 cm) each | 14 in (36 cm) | 35.5 x 75 x 14 in (90 x 190 x 36 cm) |
| Two mattresses on a Hemnes, 31.5 x 79 in (80 x 200 cm) | 9.75 in (25 cm) | 31.5 x 79 x 9.75 in (80 x 200 x 25 cm) |
| Two mattresses, 31.5 x 79 in (80 x 200 cm) | 12.5 in (32 cm) | 31.5 x 79 x 12.5 in (80 x 200 x 32 cm), plus a neck roll |
| Two twin mattresses, 4.75 in (12 cm) each | 9.5 in (24 cm) | 9.5-10 in (24-25 cm) high, not 8 in (20 cm) |
Why one cover, not two
Two covers seem logical. Each mattress, its own jacket. In practice they came out too tight. A buyer in the US had a stacked size made as two covers, and the fix was a single 31.5 x 79 x 9.5 in (80 x 200 x 24 cm) cover.
One cover treats the pair as one block. The zipper goes where both mattresses can slide in and out.
Height is a feeling. Two stacked mattresses on an IKEA Hemnes daybed sit higher, closer to a sofa. The cover should hold that height, not squeeze it. For two 4.75 in twins, a 9.5-10 in cover looks properly filled rather than loose. What do your two mattresses measure together?
Two mattresses. One height. One cover.
Ordering the combined cover
Measure the pair as it will be used
Stack both mattresses and measure length, width and total height. Give exact numbers; the workshop adds its own fit allowance. The Hemnes cover measuring Pattern shows each point.
Choose the listing option
Order through the daybed cover listing, as a full set or cover only.
Write the size and fabric code
Put the exact combined size and the fabric code in the Add Personalization box.
Add a neck roll if you want one
A matching neck roll can be made in the same fabric and added to the order.
Two stacked daybed mattresses need one cover at their combined height; two separate covers for a stacked pair come out too tight.

Buyer questions
- A common question
Can one cover hold two stacked mattresses so I can use them as a sofa?
The workshop's answerYes. One removable zippered cover can enclose two IKEA MORGEDAL mattresses, 35.5 x 75 x 7 in (90 x 190 x 18 cm) each, as a single 35.5 x 75 x 14 in (90 x 190 x 36 cm) block. Order through the daybed cover listing, full set or cover only, and write the exact size and fabric code in Add Personalization.
- A common question
Will one daybed cover fit the two mattresses stacked on my Hemnes?
The workshop's answerYes. Enter the combined thickness in the cover size, for example 31.5 x 79 x 9.75 in (80 x 200 x 25 cm), and the cover is made to fit both mattresses together.
- A common question
How should I order covers for two stacked mattresses so they fit?
The workshop's answerMeasure the total thickness of both together and order one cover of that size. When a stacked size was made as two covers they were too tight, and the fix was a single 31.5 x 79 x 9.5 in (80 x 200 x 24 cm) cover.
- A common question
Can one cover go around two mattresses, with the zipper where I can load them?
The workshop's answerYes. One cover is made to the combined height, for example 31.5 x 79 x 12.5 in (80 x 200 x 32 cm), with the zipper placed so both mattresses slide in and out. A matching neck roll can be added.
- A common question
What cover thickness should I pick for two 4.75 in twin mattresses on a Hemnes?
The workshop's answerAbout 9.5-10 in rather than 8 in. Two 4.75 in mattresses total roughly 9.5 in, and a cover made for that thickness looks properly filled instead of loose.
Questions buyers ask next
Should I add a little to the measurements so the stacked cover fits snug?
No. Give the exact length, width and combined height. The workshop adds its own seam and fit allowance, and padding the numbers yourself makes a cover loose and crinkled.
Can I choose the fabric and piping for a Hemnes daybed cover?
Yes. Cover and piping can be any color on the chart, in corduroy, velvet or linen, and pieces can even use different fabrics. The price changes with the option you pick: cover, backrests, armrests or full set.
What comes in the standard Hemnes daybed set?
One mattress cover plus two filled round backrests. With a stacked pair, write the combined height as the cover size when you order, so the single cover is made to fit both mattresses.
