Save- Coral stripe backrest
The stripe goes on the upright part so it reads like a headboard from the house.
- Child-size aqua lounger
A shorter frame gets its own cushion cut to size rather than a folded adult one.
- Solid gray seat
A plain seat in the stripe's darker color hides sun-cream marks and wear.
- Wet paving
Swimmers drip here, which is why an outdoor membrane fabric was chosen.

Three striped sunbed cushions by the pool, and how to measure every lounger
Three loungers, three colors, one small frame in the middle. The tape measure has to visit all three.
The quick answer
Measure every sunbed on its own, even when the loungers look like a matched set. Take the full length, the width, the distance from the foot to the backrest hinge, and the thickness you want, then send one drawing per frame. A child-size lounger gets its own cushion cut to size, and pieces that differ by 1.5 in (3.8 cm) need separate drawings.
Pinned by Callum: four marks around the pool

Stripes up, solids down, three frames in a row
Three loungers stand on the sandstone like a family photo, and the smallest one is the reason to take a tape measure to every frame. These sunbed cushions look like a matched set. They are not cut from one size.
Each cushion changes fabric at the fold. The stripe rides the backrest, where it faces the house like a headboard. The seat below is a solid in the stripe's own color, box-edged and self-piped, so the piping runs straight along the frame and never fights the stripe. Sun cream and wet swimsuits land on the plain part, and plain hides them better.
The middle frame is child-size, and it wears aqua on purpose. Aqua sits between warm coral and cool gray, so the row never tips to one side. White aluminum and pale coping let all three colors read clean in hard midday sun. The board fence, the striped lawn and the brick houses behind are backdrop.
The wet paving is the working prop. Swimmers drip right there, which is why the cloth is a water-repellent membrane. Water-repellent is a promise; waterproof is a contract. Let the cushions dry in the sun after a swim, and read water-repellent vs waterproof cushions before you count on either.
How many loungers are on your patio, and are they truly the same size? More sets like this live in chaise and sunbed cushions and patio and porch cushions.
Measuring each lounger: four numbers per frame
Full length
Measure the cushion area from the foot of the frame to the top of the backrest, with the back laid flat. Write it on that lounger's own drawing.
Fold point
Measure from the foot to the hinge where the backrest tilts. That tells the cutter where the solid seat ends and the striped back begins.
Width
Measure across the frame where the cushion will sit. Frames that look alike are not always alike, so check each one, friend.
Thickness, then the small frame
Pick one thickness and write it on every drawing. Then measure the child's lounger from scratch. A shorter frame gets its own cushion, not a folded adult one. The sunbed cushion size guide walks through it.
The storage bench that was 1.5 in off
A buyer in the US sent drawings of outdoor storage benches with lift-up lids and backrests, in a place with hot summers and snowy winters. She wanted the seat cushions split at the lid lines, so each lid could open on its own.
One run was slightly asymmetric, about 1.5 in (3.8 cm) different in depth. So the shop asked for a separate, full drawing of every piece instead of one sketch for the lot. Two of the cushions came to 45.5 in (116 cm), all 3 in (7.6 cm) thick, with full back pillows and long round lumbar pillows to go with them.
The shop was plain about the cloth too: no Sunbrella, no fast-drying mesh bottom, no quick-dry foam. Its UV-resistant, water-repellent fabric suits a covered porch, with the cushions stored away for winter. She asked for close-ups of eight outdoor fabrics before choosing one.
Same rule by a pool: every frame, its own drawing. More on lids in storage bench cushions with a hinged lid.
Buyer questions: outdoor sets, a double chaise and the budget talk
- A common question
I need outdoor cushions to replace the ones on my patio bench, seat and back. How are they priced?
The workshop's answerBy size, fabric and whether you add piping. Real quotes have covered a seat and back set of 50 x 30 x 4 in (127 x 76 x 10 cm) plus 50 x 16 x 4 in (127 x 41 x 10 cm), a longer 70 in (178 cm) set in the same layout, a single 25 x 25 x 4 in (64 x 64 x 10 cm) cushion, and an outdoor daybed cushion of about 86.5 x 35.5 in (220 x 90 cm), 4 in (10 cm) thick. The listing is for seat cushions; backs are quoted separately.
- A common question
Can you make custom cushions for a double chaise lounge, with the back and the seat as separate pieces?
The workshop's answerYes. Both pieces are cut to your sizes, for example a back of 51.5 x 35 in (131 x 89 cm) and a seat of 51.5 x 49 in (131 x 124 cm). They are made in the shop's own weather-resistant outdoor fabrics, ordered through the outdoor listing with its fabric charts.
- A common question
My budget is lower than the quote. Is there any room on the price?
The workshop's answerSometimes. Size, fabric and extras such as piping set the price, so skipping the piping or switching fabric family can bring a quote down. Multi-piece orders have been quoted as one set, and on a tight budget the shop has adjusted a quote once.

Measure every sunbed frame on its own and send one drawing per frame. A 1.5 in (3.8 cm) difference is enough to make a shared drawing wrong.

Questions buyers ask next
Can an adult sunbed cushion be folded to fit a child's lounger?
It can be folded, but it will not sit right. A shorter frame gets its own cushion cut to its length and width, so the fold lands at the hinge and nothing bunches at the foot. Measure the small lounger as carefully as the adult ones.
Is a water-repellent sunbed cushion the same as a waterproof one?
No. A water-repellent membrane makes splashes bead and roll off, which suits a pool deck. It is not a sealed waterproof shell, so let a wet cushion dry in the sun and bring the set indoors for winter.
Why put the stripe on the lounger backrest instead of the seat?
The backrest stands upright, so the stripe faces the house and reads like a headboard. The seat takes sun cream, wet swimsuits and wear, and a solid in the stripe's own color hides marks better than white bands.
Do three different stripe colors look planned on one row of loungers?
They do if each lounger follows one rule: one stripe on the back, its strongest color as a solid on the seat. Put the in-between hue in the middle, as the aqua sits between coral and gray here, and the row stays balanced.
