The Cutting Table · a question, worked through
How do I order a custom shaped cushion that isn't a rectangle?
Angled, notched, stepped, curved or three-cornered: every odd shape goes through one listing and one drawing. The dropdown only sets the price.

The quick answer
Order a non-rectangular cushion on the custom-shape (trapezoid) listing, not the rectangle listing. Pick the size range by your longest length and deepest depth, which only sets the price bracket, then upload a drawing with a measurement on every edge and put thickness and fabric code in Add Personalization. The cushion is cut exactly to your drawing.

Key facts
- Non-rectangular cushions go through a separate custom-shape (trapezoid) listing.
- The size range is chosen from the longest length and deepest depth, and only sets the price bracket.
- The listing asks for an image upload during checkout.
- The drawing needs a measurement on every edge; a photo of the seat helps.
- Thickness and fabric code go in Add Personalization.
- The cushion is cut exactly to the drawing, not to the size-range totals.
- Each distinct shape is its own order with its own drawing; rectangles go on the normal listing.

Send the numbers in inches: length × depth × thickness, plus any angle. The workshop checks them with you, because foam has no undo button. — Nate
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
First: which listing takes an odd shape?
The custom-shape listing, which the workshop also calls the trapezoid listing. Angled, notched, cut-out, triangular, stepped or curved: if it isn't a rectangle, it goes there, not on the rectangle listing. Triangle and corner bench cushions are standard work on it.
How many edges does your seat have, partner? Count them now, because each one needs a number. The companion Patterns are custom-shape drawings and trapezoid measurements, and the trapezoid cushion calculator helps you work the sides out. Finished examples sit under bench cushions.
Then: what do I pick, and what do I upload?
Longest length
Measure at the widest point and choose the length range that covers it.
Deepest depth
Choose the depth range that covers the deepest spot. The price appears once both are selected.
Draw the shape
A top view with a measurement on every edge. A paper sketch is fine if it's large and each edge is labeled.
Upload drawing and photo
Checkout asks for images. Add the drawing, plus a photo of the seat if you have one.
Fill in Add Personalization
Thickness and fabric code.
And if I'm not sure the drawing is right?
Send it before you order. The makers review the sketch and can reply with a screenshot showing exactly which size options to select. If a sketch is hard to read, they'll ask for it again, larger, with every edge clearly labeled. Angles are just lengths in disguise, so a clean top view with every length on it usually says all it needs to. Very complex or oversized shapes are sometimes quoted on their own and paid through a private custom listing.
Last: one shape or several?
- Each distinct shape is its own order with its own drawing.
- Rectangular pieces in the same room go on the normal rectangle listing.
- A custom-shaped chair seat follows the same rule: every edge, plus the thickness.
- Every piece is cut to its drawing, not to the size-range totals.
A triangle, a notch or a curve all go on the custom-shape listing, priced by the longest length and deepest depth, cut to the drawing.

Buyer questions
- A common question
My window bench isn't a plain rectangle. Can you make a cushion to its shape?
The workshop's answerYes, shaped window seat cushions are made all the time. Use the custom trapezoid/shape listing, choose the size range from your longest and deepest measurements, and upload a drawing with every measurement, plus thickness and fabric code. It's made exactly to that drawing, and you can message the drawing first for a check.
- A common question
Could you cut a bench cushion with a custom cutout from my sketch?
The workshop's answerYes. Pick the size range by your longest and deepest measurements, where the price shows, upload the drawing when the listing asks, and write your fabric code in the personalization. It's produced exactly to the sketch, so you can order straight away.
- A common question
Can you notch around a post or cut out a corner?
The workshop's answerYes, odd shapes, post notches, corner cut-outs and awkward corner layouts are routine. Rectangular pieces go on the normal listing; the shaped piece goes on the custom-shape listing with your measured drawing and photos.
- A common question
What do you need from me for an irregular window seat?
The workshop's answerA hand-drawn sketch with every side labeled and a photo of the seat area. The makers review it and send a screenshot of which size options to select; then attach the drawing and complete the personalization section when you order.
Questions buyers ask next
I have two differently shaped seats. Can they share one drawing?
No. Each distinct shape is placed as its own order with its own drawing, so every piece is cut from the right outline. Rectangular pieces in the same room go on the normal rectangle listing.
What makes a cushion sketch hard to read?
Small drawings with crowded or unlabeled edges. If the workshop can't read every number, it asks you to redraw the shape larger with each edge clearly labeled. A plain paper sketch is fine once every edge carries a measurement.
Is a triangle bench cushion ordered the same way?
Yes. Triangle and corner bench cushions are standard custom work on the same custom-shape listing. Choose the range by the longest length and deepest depth, then upload the drawing with each side measured, for example two 28 in (71 cm) sides.
