Sand beige cushions on a wicker set, from first bloom to first frost
Callum takes a garden sofa set apart layer by layer, then walks it through a year of weather on a brick terrace.
SaveThe quick answer
Sand beige outdoor cushions suit a dark brown wicker sofa set from spring to fall: light enough to stand off the weave, warm enough against brick, and kinder to pollen and leaf dust than white. Order seats and backs at equal thickness for a deep sit, list armchairs separately from the sofa, and split long seats for storage.
The cushion, cut open
Cover fabric. A removable, zippered cover. Machine wash at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle and air dry.
Piping. A fabric-covered cord sewn into the seams. It sits on the seam line, so it does not change the size.
Fiber wrap. Polyester fiber (Dacron) batting around the foam: it fills the cover out and softens the edges.
Foam core. About 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) high-resilience foam, firm to medium-firm, cut to the ordered size.
Zipper. Along the back band, as hidden as possible. The zipper side faces down or toward the wall.
Base panel. The underside of the cover. A non-slip fabric backing can cover the whole of it instead.
Reading the set from the top down
A brick terrace hides nothing, and neither does the rain. Whatever falls on this garden falls on these cushions too.
The set is a dark brown resin-wicker sofa and two armchairs on a jute rug, hydrangea and lavender borders all around, a picket fence behind. The outdoor cushions are sand beige outdoor acrylic, box-edged, with self piping. Seat and back are the same thickness, which makes the armchairs sit like indoor furniture. That suits long evenings, and this photo is one: early glow, everything lush.
Why sand? Light enough to stand off the dark weave, warm enough not to go stark against red brick and green leaves. The color in this picture comes from the planting and from the roses and hydrangeas in the vase on the wicker table, which repeat the pink and lavender behind. Change the flowers, change the pillows, and the cushions still fit.
The props make a good checklist. A jute rug marks out the outdoor room and warms the pale seats. A wooden tray with a glass, a stack of books and a black lantern say people stay out past dusk. Potted ferns and terracotta geraniums soften the brick edges. And the sofa carries three separate seat cushions, so the middle one, where everybody lands, can trade places with an end.
Pinned by Callum
Five pins, from the three sofa seats to the jute rug that frames the outdoor room.

- Sand sofa seat cushions
Three separate seats let the middle one be rotated where wear concentrates.
- Matching back cushions
Backs as thick as the seats give an armchair-deep sit.
- Armchair seat cushion
Armchair cushions come from the same fabric, so the set reads as one.
- Rose and hydrangea bouquet
Pink and lavender flowers on the table repeat the borders behind.
- Jute outdoor rug
A rug defines the outdoor room and warms the pale cushions visually.

Four seasons on the same cushions
A set like this lives four lives in a year.
- Spring. Pollen and petals. Sand forgives a dusting that white would show by lunch. Brush the seats before you sit, and stand them on edge after a shower so they drain.
- Summer. Long light and evening dew. Equal-depth backs earn their keep on nights like the one in this photo. Roll the jute rug up before a storm; it isn't built for a soaking.
- Fall. Leaves and damp. Separate seats and split long cushions carry in easily and dry faster than one big slab.
- Winter. Dry, covered storage. Bring them in before the first frost and they'll forgive you everything. The routine is in outdoor cushion care and winter storage.
Replacing cushions on a three-piece set? Measure and list the armchairs and the sofa separately; armchair seats are often a different width from the sofa's. The patio furniture replacement cushions guide walks you through it. What does your terrace look like the week after the first hard rain?
Seven feet of bench, cut in two
A buyer messaged the workshop about an outdoor bench cushion for a 20.5 x 87.8 in (52 x 223 cm) bench, in a blue stripe, 4 in (10 cm) thick. They wanted it split into two pieces so it would be easier to store: two cushions of 20.5 x 43.9 in (52 x 111.5 cm).
They also asked for piping close to the lighter blue in the stripe. The workshop matched it with a solid in that shade, and the order went through the product page.
That split is the same thinking as this sofa's three seats. Nearly 88 inches of foam is an awkward thing to carry through a door in October. Two halves are a one-person job. More in one long bench cushion or two.
Buyer questions: quotes, rattan plans and a small box
- A common question
How are custom outdoor seat cushions priced, and can I skip the piping and ties?
The workshop's answerEach order is quoted from exact sizes and count. Seven white 30 x 30 in (76 x 76 cm) seat cushions were quoted together as one set, and a single 55 x 23.6 x 4 in (140 x 60 x 10 cm) cushion in mangrove green was quoted with no piping and no ties. Both extras are optional.
- A common question
Can you make seat cushions and back pillows for my rattan sofa and my curved wicker chairs?
The workshop's answerYes. Send photos and the inside frame size, for example 86.6 x 86.6 x 28.7 in (220 x 220 x 73 cm), with the thickness you want. The workshop builds a full plan, such as two seat cushions of 86.6 x 28.7 x 5.1 in (220 x 73 x 13 cm) and eight back pillows of 28.7 x 15.7 in (73 x 40 cm), and draws a template for each chair type from your photos to confirm before production. Thickness can change before cutting, as when 5.9 in (15 cm) became 5.1 in (13 cm).
- A common question
The box that arrived looks far too small for my order. Is something missing?
The workshop's answerProbably not. The cushions are vacuum-sealed, so the parcel looks small, and they expand to full size once opened. Accept the delivery and open it before you count; if anything is truly missing, message the workshop with a photo of the parcel and its label.

Questions buyers ask next
What cushion color works with dark brown wicker furniture?
Sand beige is the safe partner. It contrasts with the dark weave without looking stark against brick or foliage, and it leaves the color to flowers and pillows you can change from one summer to the next.
Should outdoor back cushions match the seat cushions in thickness?
For deep, lounge-style sitting, yes. On this set seat and back cushions are the same thickness, which makes the armchairs feel like indoor furniture. Thinner backs sit you more upright and take up less of the seat depth.
How do I measure replacement cushions for a wicker sofa and two armchairs?
Measure each piece of furniture on its own, inside the frame, and list them separately. Armchair seats are often a different width from the sofa seats. Photos of each chair help the workshop draw a template for you to confirm.
Why would I split a long outdoor bench cushion into two pieces?
Two halves are lighter to carry, quicker to dry and easier to store. One buyer split a 20.5 x 87.8 in (52 x 223 cm) bench cushion into two pieces of 20.5 x 43.9 in (52 x 111.5 cm), each 4 in (10 cm) thick.
