Forest Green Bouclé and a Hidden Zipper, From First Frost to High Summer
A macro view of one side seam: loops, a zipper pull, a glimpse of white insert. It may be the most practical photograph we own, and the most seasonal.
A zipper tucked into the side seam lets the forest green bouclé cover come off for washing.
The quick answer
A zippered cushion cover in bouclé works all year when the zipper runs along the back boxing seam, where it faces the wall and the loops close over the tape. The cover slips off its insert to wash at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle, then air-dries. Forest green reads warm in winter lamplight and deep in summer shade.
Winter: a green that holds the lamplight
Daylight never lies, and in this photograph the daylight is low and golden, coming in from the side. It rakes across a custom cushion cover in forest green bouclé on a walnut bench, and every loop throws its own tiny shadow. That is why bouclé feels so warm in the cold months: it is a fabric made of small shadows.
The subject is a seam. Along the back boxing strip runs a zipper, opened just far enough to show the white insert inside. The seam line sits high on the side, so the zipper tape tucks under the pile. Close it and the dense loops fold over the track; from a step away it vanishes. Turn that edge to the wall and nobody ever sees it.
The color is a true forest green, somewhere between pine needles and an old glass bottle on a sill. Over the dark walnut frame it deepens further. Under December lamps it goes nearly black-green, soft as moss, and that is the season this cushion was made for.
Five pins on one side seam
Five pins follow the seam from the bouclé loops down to the walnut frame, with the zipper pull at the center of it all.

- Concealed zipper pull
The zipper runs along the boxing seam, where it is hidden once the cushion faces the wall.
- Insert glimpse
Opening the zipper shows the white insert, which slides out so the cover can be washed.

- Bouclé loops
Dense loops hide the zipper line almost completely when it is closed.
- Walnut frame

Spring and summer: what the zipper is really for
When the windows open in spring, the zipper earns its keep. Slide the insert out, wash the cover at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle, and let it air-dry. Then zip it back on with the pull toward the wall. For snags and pilling, our Pattern on bouclé and teddy care has the details, and how to wash cushion covers covers the rest.
Summer brings a different light, my friends. The sun climbs, the loop shadows shorten, and a deep green can feel heavy by July. There are two good answers. Leave the forest green on and pair it with pale linen pillows so the room can breathe. Or keep a second cover in a lighter bouclé or teddy and swap it in when the heat arrives. Spare covers can be ordered in another color, which makes that zipper the hinge of the whole year.
The zipper belongs on the edge that meets the wall; our Pattern on zipper placement explains the exceptions. Which season is your room darkest in? Choose the green for that one.
Eight swatches, six cushions and a list of names
An interior design studio in the US ordered swatches in eight colors through a single sample purchase, then placed an order for six floor cushions for a client's lounge: two at 28 x 60 in (71 x 152 cm) in yellow, one at 28 x 56 in (71 x 142 cm) in navy, two at 24 x 48 in (61 x 122 cm) in smoke, and one at 16 x 32 in (41 x 81 cm) in mustard.
Here is the wrinkle. The sample photos carried no labels, so after checkout every color was confirmed by name before anything was cut. Eight swatches in a pile look alike under a studio lamp, and yellow and mustard are close cousins.
The lesson travels through every season. For a multi-color order, confirm each color by name or number, in writing, before production.
Buyer questions: spare covers, a stained cover and a size that didn't match
- A common question
Can I buy a spare set of covers in a different color for my teddy sofa?
The workshop's answerYes. A full extra cover set, or a single long mattress cover, can be ordered on its own, and a covers-only listing exists. Check which listing you are buying from, so you get covers when you want covers and not a whole second sofa.
- A common question
One cover arrived stained and another had a patch sewn in. Will you replace them?
The workshop's answerYes. Send photos, and the workshop ships replacement covers or non-slip base parts by express courier. It also asks whether the rolls arrived sealed and compressed, so it can open a claim with the carrier. A pillowcase with loose stitching was replaced the same way.
- A common question
Why did I get a link for an extra payment, or a partial refund, after I ordered?
The workshop's answerThe payment has to match the size you wrote. If the size option you picked doesn't cover it, say a 53 to 55 in option for a 65 in (165 cm) cushion, the workshop sends a link for the difference or cancels and refunds. Below the smallest option, you order the smallest and get back anything charged above the quote. No hidden fees are added.

A zippered cushion cover in bouclé hides its zipper best in the back boxing seam: the loops close over the tape and the edge faces the wall.

Questions buyers ask next
Which edge of a bench cushion should hide the zipper?
The back edge, in the boxing strip, so it faces the wall once the cushion is in place. Tell the maker which side meets the wall; if the bench stands free in a room, choose the side that is seen least.
Is a forest green bouclé cover machine washable?
Covers like this one wash at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle. Take the insert out first, close the zipper, and let the cover air-dry rather than putting it in the dryer.
Is forest green too heavy for a room in summer?
It can feel heavy under strong overhead sun. Balance it with pale linen or cream pillows, or keep a lighter spare cover for the warm months and swap the green back when the evenings turn cool.
Does bouclé hide a zipper better than a flat weave?
Yes. Dense loops fold over the zipper tape when it is closed, so the line nearly disappears. On a flat weave the track shows more, which is one more reason to put it on the back edge.
