A cream pinstripe porch swing cushion, and the message that gets yours right the first time
Most porch swing mistakes start in the first message, not on the cutting table. Here's a pretty swing, and a back pillow that came up short.
SaveThe quick answer
To order a porch swing cushion right the first time, label every dimension on your drawing, list the seat and back separately, say which way the stripes run and write the fabric and piping codes apart. Measure the seat inside the arms, not the outer frame, and check the workshop's drawing of your sizes before production starts.
A quiet stripe on a white porch
Now this is a porch I'd sit on. A white swing on black chains, white railings, white floorboards, and one thick porch swing cushion in a cream and rust pinstripe. The sky's overcast and nothing is trying too hard.
The stripe is fine on purpose. A bold awning stripe would take over; this thin rust line lets the white swing stay the star. The stripes run front to back, which makes the seat look deeper and hides creasing where folks sit. The front edge is deep and boxed, about as tall as the swing's front rail, so the pad fills the space under the arms and looks built in.
The black chains and lantern give all that pale paint some weight, and the Boston fern is the only real color out there. The idea to borrow, neighbor: pick a stripe whose thin line repeats something already on your house, like brick, shutters or the front door. What color is yours?
Measure between the arms, not the outer frame, so the chains clear the cushion. And ask for ties at the back corners. A swing cushion should never slide when you laugh.
The back pillow, line by line
The remade back pillow, set out as a message. Copy the lines for your own swing.
| Line | What to write |
|---|---|
| Piece | Porch swing back pillow, sits on top of the seat pillow |
| Size | 63¾ × 18 × 3 in (162 × 46 × 7.5 cm) |
| Stripes | Top to bottom on the back |
| Seat | Its own line, with its own size |
| Codes | Body fabric code, then piping code |
The first back arrived 23 in (58 cm) short from a misread diagram. Every line above removes a guess.
Five things on the porch worth a pin
Five spots on the swing, and why each one is there.

- Cream pinstripe seat
Narrow stripes running front to back make the seat look deeper and disguise creasing.
- Deep boxed front
A thick front edge fills the space under the swing arms so the seat looks built in.
- Black swing chain
The cushion is measured between the arms, not the outer frame, so the chains clear it.
- Black metal lantern
The lantern repeats the black of the chains and gives the soft stripe a crisp frame.
- Potted Boston fern
Green fronds are the one saturated color and keep the cream stripe looking fresh.

The back pillow that came up 23 inches short
A buyer in the US ordered a seat pillow and a back pillow for a porch swing. The back arrived 23 in shorter than the seat: the workshop had misread their measuring diagram.
At first the workshop pointed to the schematic the buyer had approved. Then it looked again, owned the mistake, let them keep the first pillow and remade the back free: 63¾ in long, 18 in deep, 3 in thick, stripes running top to bottom. The back sits on top of the seat pillow, and the new one fit perfectly. It looked great out there, too.

The lesson: Label every dimension on a diagram and say which way the stripes should run.
Five lines that get a swing cushion right
- Every dimension labeled on the drawing, seat and back listed separately.
- The stripe direction for each piece: front to back, or top to bottom.
- The fabric code, say from the water-repellent charts, and the piping code, written apart.
- Swatches first: up to 5 codes per sample order; ask when they'll ship. See samples that decide it.
- The workshop's drawing of your sizes, checked before production starts.
Buyer questions
- A common question
Can I buy just the ottoman from the corner floor sofa?
The workshop's answerYes. The 39 × 39 in ottoman is sold on its own through a separate link, even to people who bought the sofa secondhand. Paid for together with a sofa order, it can ship with the sofa.
- A common question
How do I measure a spindle-back dining chair so the pad fits exactly?
The workshop's answerThe workshop marks six lines on a photo of your chair: back width at the spindles, widest width, front width, and the depth at left, center and right. Six numbers like 14.5, 17, 14 in wide and 14.5, 15.5, 13.5 in deep copy the seat shape accurately.
- A common question
My custom cushion is too tall for the room. Can I return it?
The workshop's answerCustom cushions are made to the size you order, so a change-of-mind return is possible, but you arrange and pay the return shipping. The refund follows once it arrives back and is checked. Send the return tracking number as text.
On a porch swing cushion, label every number and write which way the stripes run. One back pillow came up 23 in short from a single misread diagram.

Questions buyers ask next
How do I pick a stripe for a porch swing cushion?
Choose a thin line that repeats a color already on the house, such as brick, shutters or the front door. A fine pinstripe keeps a painted swing the star; a wide awning stripe takes over.
Do porch swing cushions need ties?
They help. Ties on the two back corners are free and keep the cushion from creeping as the swing moves. Write the request, with your exact size, in the personalization box.
Can I change my order after I've placed it?
Yes, until production starts. Fabric, piping and size can be changed, or the order held, so send corrections right away; the earlier the message, the likelier the change.
