A cream boucle custom bench cushion, seen from the doorway and from the seat
One oak bench, a tonal seat, a long patterned back. Hana writes a letter about what a room sees from ten feet away, and what your hand finds at ten inches.
SaveThe quick answer
A custom bench cushion that reads well from across a room keeps the seat and piping in one tone, so a single patterned piece, here a long lumbar back, carries the design. Up close, texture takes over: boucle loops, jute, stoneware. On a narrow bench, a shallow lumbar back keeps the full seat depth usable.

To you,
A letter from the doorway, about a cream boucle bench
To the one with a narrow bench by a window,
From the doorway, this bench is two shapes. A long pale block. Above it, a band of black half-moons. That is all a room sees at ten feet. It is enough.
The seat is cream boucle with cream piping. Tonal on purpose. When a seat and its edge agree, the eye does not stop there. It moves up to the pattern on the back cushion and rests.
The back is long and shallow, closer to a lumbar pillow than a backrest. On a narrow bench this matters. A deep back cushion takes seat depth away. A shallow one gives it back. You sit on the whole seat, and your lower back still finds support.
Tall eucalyptus in a stoneware vase stands at the far end. Its height answers the long line of the bench. Without it, the corner would lean sideways.
Now come closer.
At ten inches, the pattern goes quiet and texture speaks. Boucle is a weave of small loops. The jute runner below is coarse and flat. Soft and rough, one color family. An open book lies on the seat, paper white on cream. Two tones, nothing more.
Soft daylight from the casement window keeps the cream honest. Warm lamplight pushes cream toward butter; cool light pushes it toward gray. Look at your swatch in the light where the bench will live, as the screen versus daylight Pattern explains.
So I ask you what I ask every room. What should be seen from the door, and what should be felt from the seat? Answer both before you order a custom bench cushion.
From the door, a shape. From the seat, a texture. A good bench needs both.

Ten feet and ten inches, detail by detail

| Cream piping | Disappears, by design | A neat tonal edge |
| Eucalyptus in stoneware | A tall line against a long bench | Gray-green leaves, matte glaze |
| Jute runner | A warm band on oak boards | Coarse fiber beside soft loops |
Four inches, chosen for height rather than price
A buyer wrote to the workshop about a kitchen banquette, 56.7 x 17.7 in (144 x 45 cm). They asked for a 5 in (13 cm) cushion and learned that thickness can go as high as 15.7 in (40 cm).
They compared a minty velvet with an ice blue and one more swatch, and chose the mint. Then a careful question: would velvet hold up in a kitchen? The workshop said yes.
The 3.1 in (8 cm) and 3.9 in (10 cm) thicknesses cost the same. So price could not decide. Seat height did. The final cushion was 57.1 x 17.7 x 3.9 in (145 x 45 x 10 cm), ordered through the 17.7 x 59 in (45 x 150 cm) size option.
Height is a feeling. Measure it with the seat height calculator before you choose it.

Buyer questions: zippers, foam and a cream that looked gray
- A common question
Where does the zipper go on the cover, and will it show?
The workshop's answerEvery cover has a zipper and comes off. The zipper sits on the back side of the cushion, as hidden as possible, and that side is meant to face down or back against the seat so only the clean face shows. If you can see the zipper, the cushion may be upside down.
- A common question
What foam goes inside, and do you know its ILD?
The workshop's answerThe base is high-density foam of about 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³), rated medium-firm and resistant to sagging; some products use HR cold foam. ILD varies slightly from batch to batch, and the workshop describes the feel as close to high-end cold foam. The fabrics come from OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified mills.
- A common question
In the listing photo the fabric looked cream, but on the chart it looks gray, almost blue. Which is right?
The workshop's answerThe lighting explains it. The listing photos were shot under warm light, which brings out cream and beige. In daylight or cool light the same fabric reads grayer. The fabric chart tones are more accurate than styled photos, and the workshop sends professional photos of your chosen fabrics before production, so you can switch codes if needed.
A tonal seat with matching piping lets one patterned back cushion carry a whole bench from ten feet away.

Questions buyers ask next
Is a cream boucle seat practical on a bench used every day?
It is when the cover comes off. Every cover is zippered and removable, so a cream seat can be cleaned or replaced without touching the foam. Boucle's loops can catch on sharp buckles and claws, so keep those away from it.
How deep should a back cushion be on a narrow bench?
Shallow enough to leave most of the seat free. A long lumbar-style back supports the lower spine without pushing you toward the front edge, which a thick backrest would do on a narrow seat. Measure the bench depth before choosing the back.
Should bench cushion piping match the seat or the patterned back?
Match the seat when you want the pattern to lead. Cream piping on a cream seat disappears from across the room, so the eye goes straight to the back cushion. Contrast piping adds a second line that competes with the pattern.
