A chocolate brown corduroy corner floor cushion, made to outlast the toddler years
A nook for picture books now and paperbacks later. Dark cord, no piping, and a cream throw that shows you exactly how tall the pad stands.
SaveThe quick answer
A chocolate brown corduroy corner floor cushion gives a child's reading nook a grown-up weight that will still suit the corner when the reader is a teenager. This one goes without piping, because the corduroy ribs draw their own line. Balance the dark pad with cream and natural texture: a canopy, a knit throw and a round jute rug.
High Point ·
To my friend with a corner to fill,
A seat that plans ahead
I like a seat that plans ahead. This one does.
It is a quarter-round corner floor cushion in chocolate brown corduroy, box-edged, with no piping at all. On corduroy I rarely miss the welt. The ribs are the line, and a clean box edge lets them run straight to the seam. Dark brown gives the corner a cabin-like weight, the kind that will still look right when the picture books turn into paperbacks.
The rest of the corner is there to lift that weight. A cream canopy hangs above with a few fairy lights. A cream knit throw spills over the front edge, and it does a second job: it shows how tall the pad stands. A round jute rug in front ties the brown pad to the pale stone floor, natural texture against natural texture.
What each thing in the nook is doing
Five spots on the photograph, from the checked pillow down to the jute rug.

- Chocolate cord pad
Dark brown gives the nook a cabin-like weight that will outlast the toddler years.
- Checked square pillow
Repeats the brown in pattern form.
- Mustard cloud
Adds a honey glow against the dark cord.
- Cream knit throw
Draped over the edge, it softens the dark wall and shows the pad's height.
- Round jute rug
Natural texture in front ties brown pad and pale floor together.

Pillows, prints and one honey note
Each pillow carries one idea. A brown checked square repeats the pad's color in pattern form. A mustard cloud adds a honey glow against the dark cord. A cream star keeps the canopy's color down at seat level. The teddy bear, the wooden blocks and the open picture book tell you who reads here now, and so do the framed fox, lion and bunny prints on the wall.
Take the toys away and the corner still works. That is the test I put to any child's room: will the big piece outlive the small ones? Buy the cushion once, cry once.
The cloth has its own shelf in the corduroy library, and the grown-up versions of this corner live under reading nook cushions. How many years do you want this corner to last?
Five more inches of seat, and then none at all
A buyer in the US wanted a floor sofa nearer 90 in (229 cm) than the standard 78 in, and asked the right question: how wide is the seat inside the arms?
The workshop offered to stretch the sofa to 83 in (211 cm) at no extra cost, which would widen the inner seat from 60 in to about 65 in (152 to 165 cm). Before production, a supply problem with the brick corduroy meant it had to ship at the standard size, and the buyer agreed. Afterward they wrote that it far exceeded a disappointing sofa from another seller, and that it arrived very quickly.
The lesson sits in the question itself. On anything with arms, the overall size is not the size you sit on.
- Sizes
- Standard about 78 to 79 in (198 to 200 cm); proposed 83 in (211 cm), inner seat 60 to about 65 in (152 to 165 cm)
The lesson: Ask for the inner seat width, not only the overall size, when you lengthen a sofa with arms.
Buyer questions
- A common question
We are designers ordering cushions for a client. Do you offer a trade discount?
The workshop's answerCase by case. On one designer's six-cushion order, an extra reduction was added on top of a running campaign. Designers can have samples sent to their studio first and receive a custom invoice-style purchase link; ask for the trade price and the shipping cost in the same quote.
- A common question
What is the real difference between the cheaper modular floor couch and the standard one?
The workshop's answerThe cheaper couch has no metal bars, and its backrests are fixed to the seat section. The standard sofa has metal support bars and fully separate modular pieces, which makes it more comfortable and more flexible to arrange.
- A common question
Is your corduroy natural or synthetic, and what is the velvet made of?
The workshop's answerThe workshop describes its corduroy as a natural fabric and pairs it with 28-density foam. The velvet is a poly-cotton blend, and a natural linen is offered as well.

Fabric has a temper and foam has a memory. Better to settle both in a conversation than to guess at them alone. — Harlan

On a floor sofa with arms, ask for the inner seat width. Stretching one from 78 in to 83 in widened the seat inside the arms from 60 in to about 65 in.

Questions buyers ask next
Why does this brown corduroy corner seat have no welt?
Because the corduroy ribs already draw a line, a clean box edge without piping lets them run straight to the seam. A contrast welt is possible if you want an outline, but on a dark cord like chocolate brown a plain edge looks calmer.
Is chocolate brown too dark for a child's corner?
Not when the room around it is light. Here a cream canopy, a cream knit throw and a round jute rug balance the brown, and a mustard pillow adds warmth. The dark pad will still suit the corner when it turns into a teen's reading spot.
Why drape a throw over the front of a floor cushion?
It softens a dark pad against a pale floor, and it shows the cushion's height at a glance. When you are judging photographs of floor cushions, a draped throw is one of the quickest ways to see how thick the pad really is.
Sit well. — Harlan
P.S. Before you order, sit in the corner you have in mind for twenty minutes with a book. Whatever your back complains about first is the pillow you still need.
