A butter yellow flanged lumbar pillow, and the sage corduroy that keeps it honest
Élodie reads a bed dressed in low golden sun, where one cool green keeps two warm colors from melting into orange.

The quick answer
A butter yellow lumbar pillow against a terracotta wall needs one cool partner, and here two sage corduroy squares do that job. The lumbar is a linen-look weave with a narrow self flange, backed by a matching butter square, so warmth runs up the center while the sage at both ends keeps the palette from tipping into orange in low sun.
Swatch strip: four colors in late sun
- Butter yellow#E8C766The lumbar and the square behind it, a warm line up the center of the bed.
- Sage green#9DAF8ACorduroy squares at both ends, the cool note that keeps yellow from turning orange.
- Cream#F0E6D2Headboard and linen bedding, the quiet field every color rests on.
- Terracotta#BF6A45Sun-warmed plaster wall; it sets the mood and never appears on a pillow.
Why each pillow sits where it does
Low sun from the right turns this bedroom to honey, and every choice on the bed answers that light.
The flanged lumbar. Front and center, long and low, in a butter yellow linen-look weave. Instead of piping it has a narrow self flange, a flat border of the same fabric stitched beyond the filled part. The flange frames the woven face and looks lighter than a plain knife edge, which suits a relaxed, sunlit room better than a crisp welt would.
The butter square behind it. Same yellow, one step back. It repeats the lumbar so the warm tone runs up the middle of the bed in a single stroke.
Two sage corduroy squares. One at each end. This is the clever part, my friends. Butter yellow on terracotta plaster is lovely at noon and risky at five o'clock, when the sun warms everything and the pair starts to read as orange. Sage is the cool note that stops it. On the right-hand square the low light rakes across the ribs and shows the corduroy clearly; on the left, in softer light, the same cloth reads almost flat.
The cream headboard and bedding. The field the colors sit on. Without it, three strong colors would crowd each other.
Let one color speak and the others listen. Here yellow speaks, sage answers, and the wall hums underneath.
To copy it, pair a flat linen-look weave with a ribbed corduroy one shade cooler, and keep the warm color in the center, the cool one at the ends. Lumbar sizes are cut to measure in the lumbar pillow atlas, and the pillow cover studio lets you try the pairing first. What color is the wall behind your bed at five in the afternoon?
Pinned by Élodie: the golden-hour bed
Follow the pins from the terracotta wall down through the butter square to the flanged lumbar, then out to the sage ribs catching the light.

Two chairs, four covers
A buyer got in touch wanting zippered covers only, in zebra or cow print, for two indoor chairs. The workshop sent its animal-print chart, and the buyer chose the zebra, code P-02.
The first quote was for two covers. Then a photo arrived showing that each chair had a seat cushion and a back cushion, and the order became four. The final sizes were two covers at 21 5/8 x 29 1/2 in (55 x 75 cm) and two at 21 5/8 x 25 5/8 in (55 x 65 cm), all 3 3/4 in (9.5 cm) deep.
The lesson carries straight over to a bed of pillows. List every piece with its quantity and size, because two chairs can mean two cushions or four, and a set of pillows means nothing at the cutting table. One lumbar, one butter square, two squares in sage corduroy: that is an order. The custom cushion covers atlas covers zippered covers for foam you already own, and the bedroom cushion atlas gathers the rest of the room.

Buyer questions: spare covers, a torn seam and bolsters
- A common question
Can I buy a second set of covers, to change the color or swap them while the first set is in the wash?
The workshop's answerYes. Covers are sold separately, either with the sofa or later through a custom link, and two or three sets ordered together were quoted for less per set.
- A common question
One of my covers arrived with a tear. Will you replace it, and is there a warranty?
The workshop's answerOften, yes: in past cases a torn or open seam was put right with a new cover or a remake, and any warranty question is the workshop's to answer. Photograph the tear the day the box opens, and the packaging too, because the carrier needs proof that the damage happened in transit. Send both to the workshop and keep its reply.
- A common question
Do you make bolster pillows to match a bench cushion, and in what sizes?
The workshop's answerYes. Bolsters are long cylinder pillows made in the same fabric as the cushion. Two bolsters of 8 in (20 cm) diameter by 26 in (66 cm) long were made in corduroy, and one of 18 in (46 cm) diameter by 50 in (127 cm) long in linen with matching piping. There is also a dedicated bolster listing for seat cushions.

Questions buyers ask next
What is a flanged lumbar pillow?
A lumbar pillow with a flat border of fabric stitched around it, beyond the filled part. A narrow self flange frames the face of the pillow and looks lighter than piping, which suits relaxed, sunlit rooms.
Which color keeps butter yellow from looking orange?
A cool green such as sage. Warm yellow beside terracotta can drift toward orange in low evening sun, and a cool color placed at the ends of the arrangement pulls the palette back into balance.
Is a linen-look lumbar pillow made of real linen?
No. Linen-look is usually polyester or a polyester blend woven to copy linen's slubby texture and matte color. It wrinkles less, shrinks less and cleans more easily than pure linen, so ask for the fiber content if natural fiber matters to you.
Why do corduroy ribs show on one pillow and not the other?
Corduroy ribs show when light rakes across them. Low sun from one side lights the ribs on the nearest pillow and leaves the far one looking almost flat, even though both are cut from the same fabric.
