The Cutting Table · a question, worked through
Why was my order canceled or my card declined, and what should I do?
A canceled order feels like a closed door. Usually it is only a bank asking a question. Answer it, and the door opens.

The quick answer
An order is usually canceled because your bank declined or blocked the payment, sometimes flagging it as suspected fraud, and a declined payment makes the marketplace cancel the order automatically. Call your bank, tell them it is a furniture purchase, then place the order again, or pay with another card, PayPal or the shop's own website.
Key facts
- Canceled orders and declined payments are usually the buyer's bank blocking the charge.
- Banks may flag the purchase as suspected fraud.
- A declined payment cancels the marketplace order automatically.
- Telling the bank it is a furniture purchase lets it release the payment.
- A 'could not be authorized using the postal code provided' error means the billing ZIP code doesn't match the card issuer's records.
- In past cases the shop waited a day or two on a pending payment and reapplied the same discount on the re-placed order.
- If both orders go through, the duplicate is canceled.
- Payment is taken in full at checkout; there is no split payment.
- Ask for the current production time in writing; the shop may start on a custom order while a payment clears but ships only after it clears.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method; how soon they show depends on the bank.

Measure once, slowly. Write the numbers here. The workshop will go over them with you. — Hana
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
First: whose decision was it?
Almost always the bank's. A large furniture charge it does not recognize can be held or declined, sometimes marked as suspected fraud. When that happens, the marketplace cancels the order on its own. The shop did not cancel it, and it cannot override the marketplace's payment system.
One exception came up. An instant cancellation traced back to the buyer's marketplace account being suspended, not to the bank. Ordering on the shop's own website still worked.
Then: what to do, in order
Call your bank
Say it is a furniture purchase, a sofa or cushions, and ask them to approve it.
Check the ZIP code
If the error says the card 'could not be authorized using the postal code provided', re-enter the billing ZIP code exactly as your card issuer has it.
Place the order again
The same card once the bank agrees, or another card, PayPal or the shop's own website.
Ask for the same discount
The shop can reapply it, so your price does not change.
And if it is only stuck, not canceled?
Wait a little. In past cases the shop waited a day or two on a pending payment and sometimes started preparing your floor sofa or cushions in the meantime. It cannot speed up the marketplace's processing. The payment either completes or refunds automatically.
If you reorder while the first is pending and both go through, the shop cancels the duplicate.
A decline is a question. Answer it once. Then order again.
Most canceled cushion orders are a bank question, not a shop decision: the bank declines the charge and the marketplace cancels on its own.

Buyer questions
- A common question
My payment was canceled or is stuck processing. What now?
The workshop's answerUsually the bank is blocking the purchase. Call the bank to approve it, try another card, or order through the shop's own website. The shop may start preparing the order while the payment clears.
- A common question
My bank flagged the payment as fraud. What should I do?
The workshop's answerContact your bank to release the payment and tell them it is a furniture (sofa) purchase. The shop starts preparing the order meanwhile. If the payment is canceled, reorder or pay another way, such as PayPal or the shop's website.
- A common question
Can you push my payment through faster? It has been processing a while.
The workshop's answerThe seller can't speed up the marketplace's processing; it either completes or refunds automatically. Call your bank and say it's a furniture purchase so they release it. If it was canceled or flagged as fraud, reorder with another card or on the shop's website.
- A common question
The marketplace keeps canceling my order, even with a second card. What else can I try?
The workshop's answerOrder directly on the shop's own website, and contact your bank so it lets the payment through. The shop starts preparing the order while things are sorted out.
- A common question
If I reorder and the first payment also goes through, what happens?
The workshop's answerPayment delays happen now and then, and the shop starts preparing the order anyway. If both orders go through, it cancels the duplicate.
Questions buyers ask next
Does a declined card mean the shop rejected my order?
No. The decline comes from your bank, and the marketplace then cancels the order automatically. The shop can't override that payment system, but it can help you reorder and keep the same discount.
What does a postal code authorization error mean?
The billing ZIP code you typed doesn't match the one your card issuer has on file. Re-enter it exactly as the issuer has it, then try the payment again or use another card.
Can I still order if my marketplace account is suspended?
Yes. In one case an instant cancellation came from a suspended marketplace account rather than the bank. Ordering on the shop's own website still works when the marketplace route is blocked.
