The Cutting Table · a question, worked through
Can you embroider a name or text on my cushion?
The word 'personalization' on a listing has disappointed more than one buyer. Let's clear it up before the checkout box does.

The quick answer
No, the workshop doesn't embroider, print or letter anything on cushions or covers, so names, custom words or phrases like 'Do Not Sit' can't be added. The personalization box is for your order details: custom size, fabric and piping codes, a delivery phone number. What can be personal is the cushion itself: any size, fabric, thickness and piping.
Key facts
- No embroidery, printing or lettering of any kind is offered.
- The personalization box is for custom sizes, fabric and piping codes, a delivery phone number and requests for other fabrics.
- Nothing typed in the personalization box is printed on the cushion.
- Small custom sizes, such as two cushions of about 16 x 15.5 in (41 x 39 cm), can be made.
- Piping can be in any fabric or matched to the body.
- Custom covers, such as one for a pool deck box, can be made in any size.
- Standard thicknesses are 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5 cm), and in-between values such as 2.5 or 4.5 in can be requested.
- Custom sizes can be given to the nearest ¼ in, or in cm.

Have Maggie’s workshop cut this for you
I once cut a lovely cushion two inches short, and I have not forgotten it. That is why the workshop goes over your measurements with you on the phone. — Maggie
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
“Can you add a name in one corner?”
No, and better to hear it before checkout than after. The workshop doesn't embroider, print or letter anything on cushions or covers. Not a name in one corner, not a custom word, not a 'Do Not Sit' across a lid. Lettering of any kind is simply not offered.
“But the listing says ‘Add personalization.’”
Right, then. That word does a lot of mischief. On a custom cushion listing, personalization means your order details, not decoration. More than one buyer has read the box as a promise of lettering and been disappointed when a plain cushion arrived.
The box is where your exact size, thickness, fabric code and piping code go, written as chart codes: 'Main: L09, Piping: L24'. Often it's also where your phone number goes, and that goes only to the courier. The personalization note Pattern shows a full example.
What belongs in the personalization box
- Your exact size, even a small one: two cushions at about 16 x 15.5 in (41 x 39 cm) are no trouble.
- Thickness, if you want something other than standard.
- Main fabric and piping codes from the chart, not color names.
- 'No piping', if that's the look you want.
- Extras such as ties or backrest notes.
- A delivery phone number, which goes only to the courier.
- Requests for fabrics not shown on the listing.
“So what can I make personal?”
The cushion itself, dear. Any size, down to two small 16 x 15.5 in (41 x 39 cm) cushions. The fabric and thickness you choose. Piping in any fabric, or matched to the body as self-piping.
Custom cushion covers are made in any size too, including one for a pool deck box. For a size that isn't on the menu, the custom size Pattern shows how to ask.
What were you hoping the cushion would say? Often the right piping color says it for you.
No embroidered names or lettering on custom cushions; personalize the size, fabric and piping instead, down to two small 16 x 15.5 in cushions.

Questions buyers ask next
Can I add a logo instead of a name?
Logos are a separate case: one may be possible after a production review, at extra cost, so ask before ordering. Names, words and phrases are not offered in any form, embroidered or printed.
