The Cutting Table · a checklist answer
Does the cushion price include shipping and the foam insert?
Also asked as:Does that include shipping? Is that the total cost including both foam and cover?
There's an old rule in every honest upholstery shop: the number you're quoted is the number you pay. Here's how to make sure yours holds.
SaveThe quick answer
The listing price for your size covers the foam insert and the cover. Shipping to your US door is stated by the workshop with the quote or at checkout, so ask for custom quotes as one total with shipping named in writing, including whether it goes express. Some past quotes came back with delivery inside the total; check the checkout total before you pay.
Key facts
- The workshop states the shipping cost for your address with the quote.
- Cushion prices include both the foam insert and the cover.
- Ask for custom quotes as one total with shipping named.

Have Harlan’s workshop cut this for you
Old upholsterers will tell you the real cutting happens in the conversation, long before the shears come out. Tell the workshop what you sit on, and they will talk it through with you. — Harlan
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
What the price for your size already covers
- The foam insert, made to your size
- The cover, in the fabric code you chose
- Shipping to your US door: the quote says whether it sits inside the total or is added, and by which method
Foam and cover priced as one number
Buyers ask this one often, my friend, usually with a little suspicion, and I don't blame them. The foam and the cover travel as one cushion here, and they're priced as one. A 35 x 16 in (90 x 40 cm) bench cushion was quoted as foam plus cover. Four porch swing back cushions came back as one figure with the foam inserts and shipping inside it.
Buy the cushion once, cry once. Read the shipping line in the quote, so the number holds all the way to your porch.
Three things to confirm before you pay
- The size is the one you measured, because the listing price follows the size.
- The quote names both the foam insert and the cover, not a cover only.
- The delivery address and its shipping cost are named in the quote; a few remote destinations add a fee.
Getting a cushion quote for a size that isn't listed
Send length, width and thickness, the fabric you like, and a drawing with every side measured for anything that isn't a rectangle. The custom quote Pattern lists it all, and ask for the reply as one total with shipping stated. For a straight bench, the bench cushion builder puts your numbers in order first. Keeping your old foam? Read covers for existing foam and the cover-only entry before you ask. What size is the cushion you're pricing?
Custom cushion prices include the foam insert and the cover; read the shipping line in the quote, and if a quote says cover only, the foam isn't in it.

Buyer questions
- A common question
Does your quote include delivery to the US?
The workshop's answerIt has: two corduroy bench cushions 18 in (46 cm) wide, one 52 in (132 cm) and one 64 in (163 cm) long, were quoted as a single total including delivery to the US. Each quote states the shipping for its own address, so read that line before you pay.
- A common question
Is the foam insert in the price, or only the cover?
The workshop's answerBoth. Cushion prices include the foam and the cover. A 35 x 16 in (90 x 40 cm) bench cushion was quoted as foam plus cover, and a 13 x 92 in (33 x 234 cm) linen cushion was quoted with shipping included.
- A common question
Is shipping part of a custom quote?
The workshop's answerIt's stated in each quote: the workshop gives the shipping cost and method with the total, and past custom quotes have come back with shipping inside the figure. Check that line, and whether it goes express, before you pay.
- A common question
Why does an angled cushion cost more than a rectangle?
The workshop's answerLabor, not fabric. Angled sides and rounded corners take much longer to cut and sew, so they're priced like trapezoids; one window seat cost about twice a similar rectangle. A simple notch or cut-out costs nothing extra.
Questions buyers ask next
Is express shipping extra on a custom cushion quote?
It depends on the quote: some past quotes included express shipping in the total, others named the method separately. If the delivery method matters for your timing, check it on the quote before you pay.
Are back cushions included in a swing or bench seat price?
No. The outdoor bench listing covers the seat cushion only. Back cushions are quoted separately, with the foam inserts included; one set of four porch swing back cushions came back as a single figure with shipping inside it.
What goes in a request for a custom cushion quote?
Length, width and thickness, the fabric or listing you like, and a drawing with every side measured for shaped cushions. The workshop confirms the shape and replies with a total that states whether shipping is inside it.
