The Cutting Table · a question, worked through
Can you suggest a cushion and piping color to go with my wallpaper?
A wallpaper already has opinions about color. Send a photo of it, and the cushion can agree with it, or answer back politely.

The quick answer
Yes: send a photo of your wallpaper or room in good daylight, and the workshop suggests a body color and a piping color by fabric code. For a blue-gray wallpaper it proposed muted blue-gray 903 with warm ivory 910 piping, or 916 for a subtler edge. Ask for large close-ups of the actual fabric rolls before you decide.

Key facts
- The workshop suggests cushion colors from a photo of your room or wallpaper.
- Soft fabric 903 is a muted blue-gray; 910 is a warm ivory.
- In the same soft range, 922 is a green and 905 a light blue.
- Mustard velvet 111 and dark brown suit a calm scheme.
- Large close-up photos of specific fabric rolls are available on request.
- Any color on the fabric charts can go on any cushion at no extra cost.
- Roughly 50% of orders choose matching piping and 50% contrast; piping costs nothing extra either way.
- Fabric swatches are roughly palm-sized, about 4 x 4 to 6 x 6 in, so you can hold them against the wallpaper in daylight.

Color is easier to settle in a conversation than on a screen. Tell the workshop about the room and the light it gets, and the fabric choice follows. — Élodie
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
“Can you pick a color from my wallpaper?”
Yes, and it is one of my favorite requests. Send a photo of the wallpaper, or of the whole room, taken in good daylight, and the workshop answers in fabric codes: one for the cushion body, one for the piping. Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does, so a window-lit photo beats a lamp-lit one.
It works for a set, too. If the cushion must agree with a sofa or bench you already own, photograph that. Buyers stuck between deep green, anthracite, navy and brick for a modular floor sofa have settled it this way before ordering.
“My wallpaper is blue-gray. What goes with it?”
For a blue-gray paper, the suggestion was soft fabric 903, a muted blue-gray that sits inside the wallpaper's own color instead of arguing with it, with 910 warm ivory piping to draw a clean line around the seat. For a subtler edge, 916 in place of 910.
When another buyer wanted more life, with blue walls and a greener, more colorful scheme, the answer changed to 922 green with 905 light blue piping. The welt carries the wall's blue onto the cushion, and the green is free to speak. Matching, contrast or no piping shows both routes, and contrast piping has the vocabulary.
“And if I want the room to stay calm?”
For a different wallpaper, the workshop pulled the quiet notes out of it: beige, khaki green or brown, or velvet in olive, off-white, mustard 111 or dark brown. The heat went in as accents: velvet 112, a burnt terracotta, or a burnt orange.
That is the method, my friends. The body borrows a tone the wallpaper already owns; the accent borrows its warmest one. The paint and wallpaper matching pattern walks through more rooms, sage, olive and khaki cushions shows the calm greens at work, and the shapes live under bench cushions. What color is the wallpaper you are answering?
What to send with the photo
- A daylight photo of the wallpaper or the room, taken near a window.
- The piece being covered: bench, daybed or floor sofa.
- The rest of the set, if the cushion has to agree with furniture you already own.
- Your shortlist, such as 922 with 905 trim, so the suggestion can confirm or redirect it.
- A request for roll close-ups of the two or three fabric codes you like best.
For blue-gray wallpaper, a muted blue-gray cushion (903) with warm ivory piping (910) lets the wall lead while the welt draws a clean line around the seat.

Buyer questions
- A common question
Can you suggest a piping color that goes with my wallpaper?
The workshop's answerYes, send a photo of it. For a blue-gray wallpaper the workshop suggested soft fabric 903 with 910 warm ivory piping, or 916 for a subtler edge. For blue walls and a greener, more colorful scheme, it suggested 922 green with 905 light blue piping.
- A common question
How do I pick a color that goes with my furniture or wallpaper?
The workshop's answerSend a photo of the set or room in good light and codes come back. For one wallpaper: beige, khaki green or brown, or velvets in olive, off-white, mustard 111 or dark brown for a calm look, with terracotta 112 or burnt orange as accents. Large close-ups of specific rolls are available.
- A common question
If I send photos of my room, will you recommend a color?
The workshop's answerYes. Send the photos and a color is suggested. Buyers torn between deep green, anthracite, navy and brick for a modular sofa have settled it this way before ordering.
- A common question
I can't tell what color a number on your chart is. Can you tell me?
The workshop's answerYes. The workshop names the color behind any number, sends its full chart and close-ups, and confirms the number with you before production. If the chart and the listing are numbered differently, the color you picked on the chart wins.
Questions buyers ask next
Should the piping match the wallpaper or the cushion?
Either can work; it depends on how much edge you want. In the blue-gray example the piping was warm ivory 910, lighter than the 903 body, so it outlines the seat. Code 916 was offered as the subtler edge that stands out less.
Why ask for close-up photos of the fabric roll?
A large close-up of the roll shows the weave, the sheen and the depth of a color more truly than a small chart thumbnail. The workshop sends them on request, so you can compare your top two or three codes before you order.
My old color code has disappeared from the chart. What now?
Ask before ordering. Codes are sometimes renumbered, as when a floor-cushion rust moved from 14 to 17. Missing colors can be re-added for reorders, and a truly discontinued fabric gets a nearest-match suggestion, often in velvet or linen.
