The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

I placed an order by accident. Can you cancel it?

Fingers slip, sale timers tick, and suddenly there's a cushion on order. Canceling is simple; the one question you'll be asked first is worth a minute.

The quick answer

Usually, yes: a cushion order placed by accident can be canceled and refunded if you write before production starts, and the refund can take a few days to appear. The workshop usually asks why first, then offers a custom size or color if fit was the worry, or a small discount or later ship date if price was. Say you still want to cancel, and it cancels.

I once cut a lovely cushion two inches short, and I have not forgotten it. That is why the workshop goes over your measurements with you on the phone. — Maggie

How the conversation usually runs

  1. You: “I pressed order too soon.”

Write as soon as you notice. An order can be canceled before production starts.

  2. The workshop: “What went wrong?”

Size, color, space or price. Your answer decides the next step.

  3. If it's size or color

A custom size or color is offered, and your space may be measured first.

  4. If it's price

A small discount or a later ship date may be offered.

  5. You: “Please cancel anyway.”

It's canceled on request, and the refund follows.

Why you get a question before a refund

Sometimes an “accident” is really a cushion that felt too big for the space, or a color that looked different at midnight. Both are fixable: a custom size that isn't on the menu can be made, and your length, depth and thickness checked against the room. Standard thickness runs 2 to 5 in, so a cushion that felt bulky can simply be ordered thinner. If the answer is still no, the order is canceled.

A real project

Canceled after production had started

A buyer wrote to the workshop wanting out of an order already in production. The workshop offered 5% off to keep it and asked for the space measurements. The buyer still wanted out, and the order was canceled and refunded.

That was one case, not a rule. Other custom orders already in production were refunded only in part.

Asked to cancel an accidental cushion order, the workshop first asks why: if the worry is size or color, a custom size or color is offered instead.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

I ordered by mistake, or picked the wrong size. Can you cancel?

    The workshop's answer

First you'll be asked whether color or size is the problem, since a special size or color can be made instead. If you still want to cancel, it's canceled and refunded.

  2. A common question

How long does the refund take after canceling an accidental order?

    The workshop's answer

Orders canceled before production starts are refunded, and the refund can take a few days to show. If the reason was size, a custom size is offered first.

  3. A common question

Can I add another cushion after I've already ordered?

    The workshop's answer

Once production has started, place a separate order for extras. To upgrade to a full set without paying shipping twice, reorder and the first order is canceled, or pay the difference through a custom link.

Questions buyers ask next

Is there a charge for canceling a mistaken order?

Before production starts, an accidental order is canceled and refunded. Once a custom piece is in production it is made only for you, and some of those orders have been refunded only in part.

What if I rushed because a sale timer was running out?

Say so. If price or timing pushed you, a small discount or a later ship date may be offered; if you'd rather not keep the order, it is canceled on request before production starts.

Can I switch to a different size instead of canceling?

Yes, that is usually the first offer. A custom size or color can be made, and your space measurements may be checked first so the replacement actually fits.
