Sage geometric outdoor cushions on a three-seat teak sofa: one fabric, three kinds of pattern
Callum reads eight cushions that never argue, and where the pattern mixing really happens on a sunset terrace.
The quick answer
To mix patterns on a long outdoor bench cushion set, use one printed fabric on every seat, back and pillow, and let the surroundings supply plain and texture. On this teak three-seater, one sage geometric covers eight pieces, while stone, brick, weathered teak and terracotta add the contrast. Split the seat into three equal cushions so each lifts on its own.
Plate notes: five pins on a sunset terrace
Five pins, from the three equal seat cushions to the climbing roses that repeat the white lines.
The numbers match the pins on the plate.

Eight cushions, one cloth, no arguments
Eight pieces of cushion on one teak sofa, and not one of them argues. Three seats, three backs, two scatter pillows, all in the same sage outdoor fabric with a white line pattern.
That is the whole trick. A long three-seater is a lot of cushion to look at. Change fabric between seats and backs and the sofa breaks into a patchwork. Keep one fabric and it reads as one calm block.
The seat comes in three equal pieces. Easy to lift, easy to turn, easy to carry in when a squall comes over the wall. Rain doesn't negotiate, and one long seat cushion is a two-person job in a hurry.
The pattern keeps the green from going flat. Those white lines pick up the pale roses and jasmine climbing the stone farmhouse wall. The teak has weathered to gray, so the sage stands out without the contrast turning harsh. Olive trees and lavender in terracotta pots keep the palette earthy, and the French doors say the kitchen is close. Golden sunset light warms the sage a shade, worth knowing if you pick your swatch at noon.
Pattern, plain and texture, and only one of them is fabric
Mixing patterns doesn't always mean mixing fabrics. On this terrace the mix happens around the cushions.
- Pattern: the white line geometric, on every cushion and nowhere else.
- Plain: the stone wall and the brick floor, big quiet surfaces.
- Texture: weathered teak grain, rough terracotta, a tangle of roses.
So the cushions carry the only print in the frame, and the garden brings the rest. When you dress a big outdoor sofa, use one fabric everywhere and let pattern, not extra colors, bring the interest.
If a stripe is in your mix, pipe it in the same stripe rather than hunting for a solid that matches one of its colors. That is what the workshop suggested for a set of green-and-white striped lounge covers, further down this page. What is growing on your wall, friend? Let it choose your second color. Eight chairs, two sizes, one clean note
A buyer wrote to the workshop needing seat cushions for eight garden chairs in two sizes: four at about 18 7/8 x 22 1/2 in (48 x 57 cm) and four at about 23 1/4 x 22 1/2 in (59 x 57 cm).
There was no button for that on the listing, so the workshop showed them the simple route. Pick the 19 3/4 x 19 3/4 in (50 x 50 cm) option, set the quantity to 8, and type the real sizes into the personalization box. That came out cheaper than ordering the sizes one by one, and the workshop set up a custom listing so the price showed in their own currency. Production ran 7 to 9 days, delivery 3 to 5.
One base option, one quantity, one clear note. The personalization note Pattern shows how to word it.
- Sizes
- 1½ x 19 x 22½ in (4 x 48 x 57 cm) and 1½ x 23¼ x 22½ in (4 x 59 x 57 cm)
The lesson: For mixed custom sizes, one base option with quantity and a clear personalization note is simplest.
Buyer questions: stripes, old foam and lounge covers
- A common question
The stripe in your main photo isn't on the fabric chart. Can I still get it?
The workshop's answerYes. The workshop sends you a photo of that fabric to confirm, and uses exactly that stripe once you order.
- A common question
If I keep my old foam and buy only covers, will it cost much less?
The workshop's answerNot much less. Most of the cost and the craftsmanship is in the custom cover, so leaving the foam out barely moves the price. The workshop recommends the full set so fit, texture and look all match.
- A common question
Can you make replacement covers for my IKEA DUVHOLMEN outdoor lounge cushions?
The workshop's answerYes, covers only, for the original inserts: for example seats of 48 3/4 x 24 3/8 x 4 3/4 in (124 x 62 x 12 cm) and backs of 24 3/8 x 17 3/8 x 5 1/2 in (62 x 44 x 14 cm). The closest green-and-white stripe was code N20. A solid piping in exactly its dark green would be hard to match, so the workshop suggested piping cut from the same striped fabric.

Questions buyers ask next
Should outdoor seat and back cushions match?
On a long sofa, matching them in one fabric makes the piece read as one calm block. Different fabrics on seats and backs tend to break a three-seater into a patchwork, especially when scatter pillows add a third.
Why split a long outdoor seat into several cushions?
Equal pieces are easier to lift, turn and carry indoors when the weather turns. On a three-seater, three equal seat cushions can also be swapped around, so no single spot takes all the wear.
How do I order outdoor chair cushions in two different sizes?
Choose one base size option, set the total quantity, and write each real size in the personalization box. One buyer ordered eight chair cushions in two sizes this way through a single 19 3/4 x 19 3/4 in (50 x 50 cm) option.
