A rust velvet modular floor sofa in morning sun, read by Hana
Low seat, old pine, leaf shadows on the wall. Hana reads a quiet period room, then explains how one precise message saves a week of back and forth.
Morning sun, trailing plants and a wicker basket around a rust-edged floor sofa in a period room.
The quick answer
A modular floor sofa suits a period room with old pine floors when its accent velvet matches the timber, like the rust ends and all-rust bolster here. A standard set stacks two 78 x 39 x 6.5 in (200 x 100 x 17 cm) seat cushions and adds two L-shaped backrests, and extra covers come with or without foam.
Rust ends, a rust bolster, and pine that has been walked on for years
The floor is the oldest thing in the room. So the sofa takes its color from the floor.
A cream velvet modular floor sofa sits low under a white sash window. The base ends are rust. The bolster across the back is rust all the way through. That one warm bar gives the seat a center, and it repeats the worn pine boards, which have aged toward the same color.
Box edges, no piping. The blocks read as simple volumes, like stones laid on a path. In early sun the velvet shows two faces: pale where the light falls, deeper rust in the folds.
Everything else stays low. A wicker basket by the window stands in for a side table. A mug rests on a stack of books at seat height. A jute rug gives bare feet something dry and textured. Height is a feeling, and here nothing rises above the sofa except the plants.
The pothos on the wall shelf trails down and throws leaf shadows across the plaster. A framed botanical print repeats the leaves in ink. A macramé hanging softens the far edge. None of it is expensive. All of it sits at the right height.
What does the oldest floor in your home look like?
Pinned by Hana in the morning room
Five pins: the rust bolster, a rust base end, the pothos and its shadows, the wicker basket and the mug on books.

- All-rust bolster
A fully rust bolster gives the seat a strong central accent.
- Rust base end
Rust velvet matches the tone of old pine boards.
- Pothos and leaf shadows
Morning sun through leaves draws soft shadows above the sofa.
- Wicker basket
A basket by the window stands in for a side table.
- Mug on books
A mug on a book stack keeps drinks at floor-sofa height.

The box-cutter, the red cover and eight holders
A buyer in the US wrote to the workshop after a friend opened the vacuum roll-pack with a box-cutter. The blade went through the plastic, then through one seat mattress and its red corduroy cover, all the way down.
The workshop offered two ways back: new foam with a new cover, or the cover alone. The buyer took both. The set was the standard size, 39 x 78 in (100 x 200 cm), about 13.5 in (34 cm) high with the seats stacked.
Later came a second problem. The push-fit steel bars that hold the pieces together kept separating when people sat down. The workshop offered a one-piece set of all 8 holders that needs no assembly.
Two lessons. Never open compressed foam with a blade; cut only the outer wrap, at an edge. And when you write in, name the part. The support bars guide shows what each piece is called.

Four lines that get a floor sofa order right the first time
Name the part
Seat cushion, L-shaped backrest, bolster, cover only, foam only, support bar. Each can be ordered on its own, so one clear noun saves a round of questions.
Give the size in the unit you measured
A standard seat cushion is 78 x 39 x 6.5 in (200 x 100 x 17 cm). If yours differs, send your own numbers, not a converted guess.
Quote the code, not the color name
Colors live on the chart as codes. A fabric code copied from the chart means the same thing on both ends of the message.
Add one photo
A photo of the room, or of the damage, answers what three sentences cannot. The replacement covers guide shows what to photograph.
Buyer questions: corner sizes, block sizes and sliding
- A common question
How large, and how small, can you make the corner floor cushion?
The workshop's answerThe standard maximum is 48 in (122 cm) per side. Larger ones are made to order, and a 58 in (147 cm) corner has been quoted; a small 25 x 25 in (64 x 64 cm) corner is possible too. One was made at 46 x 46 in (117 x 117 cm) in green corduroy.
- A common question
What size is each seat cushion, and each L-shaped backrest, in the floor sofa set?
The workshop's answerA set has two floor seat cushions of 78 x 39 x 6.5 in (200 x 100 x 17 cm) and two L-shaped backrest pillows of 39 x 39 x 15 in (100 x 100 x 39 cm). Extra covers can be bought with or without the foam inside.
- A common question
My sofa won't stand against a wall. Will the cushions slide off?
The workshop's answerNo. The sofa comes with metal support bars that stop the cushions slipping, so it can stand freestanding. If the whole sofa slides on a smooth floor, one buyer wrapped the bars in grip mat, which the workshop accepted as reasonable; it had no other reports of sliding.

A modular floor sofa in rust velvet belongs on old pine floorboards, because worn pine and rust have aged toward the same warm color.

Questions buyers ask next
What accent color suits a floor sofa on old pine floors?
Rust and terracotta velvet sit closest to aged pine, so they read as part of the room rather than an addition. Keep the body cream and put the accent on the ends and the bolster, so the warm color repeats instead of scattering.
How should I open a vacuum-packed floor sofa?
Cut only the outer plastic, at an edge, never down the middle of a piece. A box-cutter pushed through the wrap can slice the foam and cover beneath. Then give the foam a few days to recover before judging the size.
Do I need side tables next to a floor sofa?
Low props usually work better. A wicker basket, a stack of books or a tray on the floor keeps a mug within reach at seat height, and the room stays open above the sofa line.
Can I replace a single damaged piece of a floor sofa?
Yes. A single seat foam with its cover, or the cover alone, can be ordered as a replacement. Name the piece, give its size and fabric code, and add a photo of the damage so nothing needs guessing.
