A kids' floor sofa arch from above: rust corduroy, one rug, one small child
Three arches. Three colors. Three props, if you count the child. Seen from the ceiling, a play couch tells you exactly how much floor it asks for.
SaveThe quick answer
A three-piece nesting arch needs only the floor of its outer arch, because the middle arch and the cream dome tuck inside it. The styling in this photo is just as spare: a star-dotted rug wider than the arch for soft landings, warm oak boards, and a child for scale. Corduroy floor pieces are made without piping, so the ribs and box edge draw the outline.
A kids' corner floor cushion, cut open
Corduroy cover. Plush corduroy, zipped and removable, made without piping. Wash at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle and air dry.
Fiber wrap. Polyester fiber (Dacron) batting around the foam: it fills the cover out and softens the edges.
Foam core. Single-density foam quoted as T28 for kids' play pieces, 7 7/8 in (20 cm) thick. A about 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) upgrade is available.
Zipper. Along the back band, as hidden as possible. The zipper side faces down or toward the wall.
Base panel. The underside of the cover. A non-slip fabric backing can cover the whole of it instead.
Why there are only three props
From above, a play couch stops being furniture and becomes a floor plan. That is why this photograph was taken from the ceiling.
The arch nests in three parts: rust on the outside, espresso in the middle, a cream dome at the core. Espresso against rust is the strongest contrast of any colorway, so each piece reads on its own, and the pale dome is easy to spot. Children learn the order quickly.
The props are few, and each one works. The star-dotted cream rug is wider than the arch, so a tumble off the rust edge lands on rug, not boards. The oak floor warms the browns at the edges of the frame. The child in sage, leaning in from the top left, gives scale, and sage sits quietly opposite rust.
Nothing else. No basket, no lamp, no pile of toys. Children measure comfort with their whole body, and they need the floor for it.

Five pins, from the outer arch to the child leaning in.

- Rust outer arch
From above you can see the full footprint you need to plan for.
- Espresso middle arch
The dark middle arch gives the strongest contrast of any colorway.
- Cream core
The cream dome is easy to spot, so children learn the order quickly.
- Toddler leaning in
The child leaning in gives both scale and a story.
- Star-dotted rug
The rug is wider than the arch, which keeps landings soft.

Two corner cushions, then a question of units
A childcare center wrote to the workshop for two classrooms. First came two corner cushions, 40 1/8 x 40 1/8 in (102 x 102 cm), one yellow and one mint.
Later they asked for a beige tufted rectangle at 740 x 1040. No unit. It was first read as meters. It was millimeters. They chose the nearest listed option, 27 1/2 x 43 1/4 in (70 x 110 cm), and the piece was made at 29 1/8 x 41 in (74 x 104 cm), with a note that hand-tufted pieces can vary by 1 to 2 in.
- Sizes
- Two corners at 40 1/8 x 40 1/8 in (102 x 102 cm); tufted rectangle 29 1/8 x 41 in (74 x 104 cm)
- Fabric
- Yellow and mint; beige
The lesson: Write the unit beside every custom size: mm, cm or in.
How to copy the styling
Start with the rug. How wide is yours? Choose one that runs past the outer arch on every side, in a pale color that lets the corduroy ribs show. Then let warm wood show; beside rust and espresso it looks finished without adding anything.
Choose a high-contrast colorway if the pieces come apart all day. The tonal sets in the gallery are calmer, and harder to tell apart.
The drawing above opens a sister piece: the square corner floor cushion parents order most, 39 3/8 in (100 cm) square and 7 7/8 in (20 cm) thick. Sizes by age are in kids floor sofa sizes, and the full range lives under kids floor sofas and corduroy.
Three questions about bars, frames and stairs
- A common question
Does the modular ottoman with the backrest come with its metal frame? And does the ottoman fold out?
The workshop's answerYes to both. The set ships with its metal connecting bars, and the ottoman piece folds open.
- A common question
A few of the metal bars looked rusty when they arrived. Are they defective?
The workshop's answerMarks on brand-new bars are residue from production, not rust, and they wipe off with a damp cloth. If a bar is truly damaged or will not click together, the workshop sends a replacement set.
- A common question
How heavy is the couch? Can we carry it up the stairs ourselves?
The workshop's answerThe courier brings it to your door, and it arrives as separate vacuum-packed cushions that one or two people can carry.
Plan a nesting play arch around its outer arch only: the middle arch and the cream dome tuck inside it and take no extra floor.

Questions buyers ask next
How much floor does a nesting play arch take up?
Only the footprint of the outer arch. The middle arch and the dome nest inside it, so stacked they add no floor. Leave rug beyond the outer edge on every side a child can roll toward.
Can corduroy kids' pieces have a piped edge?
No. Corduroy floor pieces and corduroy daybed covers are made without piping by design. The ribs and the box edge give the outline instead.
Is corduroy fine beside a sunny playroom window?
Corduroy is an indoor fabric with no UV or water resistance. It is fine indoors, but strong, prolonged sun can fade indoor fabrics, so keep the pieces out of the brightest patch or move them around.
