A Reading by RosaWindow Seat Cushions
A navy corduroy window seat cushion, from the July sun patch to January
Rosa reads a sunlit nook from above: navy corduroy edge to edge on a pine base, and how the same seat behaves through a year of weather.
The quick answer
A navy corduroy window seat cushion changes with the seasons: summer sun is the main risk, so turn and flip it now and then to fade evenly, while in winter the raised pile feels warm beside cold glass. Photographed from above, a good fit covers the seat top edge to edge, with no bare wood strip and no overhang.
SavePinned by Rosa: the navy window seat from above
These pins were set from the top of a stepladder, so the fit comes first and the patch of sun on the mustard rug comes last.

- Edge-to-edge fit
From above you can check there is no bare wood strip and no overhang.
- Paneled end
The cushion stops cleanly at the end panel, square to the wall.
- Pendant height
Set the shade high enough to stand up under it from the seat.
- Side table
Books and a vase live beside the seat, not on it.
- Sun patch on rug
A sunny window is where a dense pile earns its keep.

A navy corduroy window seat, seen from the stepladder
Somebody climbed up high to take this picture, and bless them for it. Pull up a chair, neighbor, because an overhead view is the honest way to judge a window seat cushion.
From up here you see the whole top: navy corduroy running edge to edge across a paneled pine base, no bare wood at the front, no lip hanging over the ends. The cushion stops square at the end panel. The pine paneling shows only on the front face, where it belongs.
The rest of the nook is summer on purpose. A mustard curtain and a mustard shag rug warm up the deep navy. Floral wallpaper keeps it cheerful. A rattan dome pendant hangs high enough to stand up under it from the seat. A rubber plant in terracotta and a round wooden side table with books and a bud vase stand beside the seat, not on it, so the full length stays free for sitting.
Navy corduroy earns its place in a sunny window for one plain reason: a raised pile hides sitting marks better than a flat weave. See the corduroy shelf, the window seat cushion atlas and the note on window seats fading in the sun. How many hours of sun does your seat get in July?
The same seat, four seasons
- Summer: the sun patch slides across the rug and onto the seat. Turn and flip the cushion now and then so the navy fades evenly, not in one band.
- Fall: pull the side table closer and lay a throw at one end. Corduroy's pile feels warm before the heat comes on.
- Winter: a window seat sits against the coldest glass in the house. A box cushion keeps you off the chilly ledge, and navy looks deep in low light.
- Spring: vacuum along the wale, brush the pile back up where people sit most, and check the cushion still lies square to the end panel.
