An ivory daybed cushion with a brown welt, and the hand of the cloth
A full room. Books, frames, a busy rug, a monstera. In the middle, one pale rectangle. You notice it because it is quiet.
SaveThe quick answer
An ivory linen-look daybed cushion in a soft performance weave feels smooth and soft rather than crisp, wipes clean, and machine washes at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle. It is thinner than velvet and suited to daily lounging and sleeping. Iron it on low only, because the weave is synthetic. A fine dark welt keeps the pale shape crisp.
The daybed cushion, cut open
Linen-look cover. A soft performance weave with a linen texture. Zipped, removable, washable at 86°F (30°C); iron on low.
Brown welt. A thin contrast cord in the top and bottom seams. It holds the pale outline against a pale wall.
Fiber wrap. Polyester fiber (Dacron) batting around the foam: it fills the cover out and softens the edges.
Foam core. About 2.0 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) high-resilience foam, firm to medium-firm, cut to the ordered size.
Zipper. Along the back band, as hidden as possible. The zipper side faces down or toward the wall.
Base panel. The underside of the cover. A non-slip fabric backing can cover the whole of it instead.
One calm shape in a full room
The room is full. Framed art, a bookshelf, plants, a red and navy Persian rug. The daybed cushion is the one calm thing: a pale box on a light oak platform, a round bolster at the end.
The welt is brown and thin. The wall behind is almost the same ivory as the cushion. Without that line, the seat would dissolve into it. With it, the outline holds.
The throw is pushed to the far end, where someone would lean. The wooden tray sits in the middle and works as a table. The monstera stands in front and gives the corner depth. The floor lamp has a linen shade, so the evening light has the same soft texture as the seat.
Everything busy is at the edges. The center is left for sitting.
Where the eye rests
Five places, from the bolster to the monstera.

- Ivory bolster
The bolster is the calm, pale shape in a busy corner.
- Brown welt
A fine brown piping defines the seat against an equally pale wall.
- Tray as table
Placed in the center, the tray works as a coffee table on the seat.
- Knit throw
The throw is pushed toward the end where someone would lean.
- Monstera
Large leaves at the front frame the daybed and add depth.

The hand: how the cloth feels, wears and cleans
This is a linen-look weave, the soft performance cloth that sells best. Thick, very soft, smooth under the hand.
Feel. Softer than it looks, and thinner than velvet. There is no pile, so no light and dark shading when you brush it.
Wear. It is the cloth recommended for daily use, rentals, children and sleeping. A daybed gets all four.
Clean. Wipe small spills. For more, unzip the cover and wash it inside out at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle. Air dry. The weave is synthetic, so iron on low only.
First week. Covers arrive creased from vacuum packing. The creases relax as the foam recovers, within about a week.
If you want a natural fiber, 100% cotton and true linen charts exist. Cotton marks more easily than a performance weave. More in real linen or linen-look.
Soft to sit on. Easy to wash. Quiet enough to let the room talk.
A deep bench by the fireplace
A buyer designed a deep bench beside a fireplace, for lounging and reading. The seat was 31½ x 71 in (80 x 180 cm), 4¾ in (12 cm) thick. She needed a back that would hold her up.
The workshop advised wedges, not rectangles: 35½ in (90 cm) long, 15¾ in (40 cm) high, 8¾ in (22 cm) at the base and 6 in (15 cm) at the top. On a seat that deep, a flat back leaves you half lying down.
She wanted a natural fiber. She was offered 100% cotton or an acrylic linen, and chose a brown linen blend.
- Sizes
- Seat 31½ x 71 x 4¾ in; wedge backs 8¾ in at the base, 6 in at the top
- Fabric
- Brown linen blend
The lesson: Wedge backrests suit deep lounge seats better than flat rectangles.
Three questions about daybeds
- A common question
My IKEA Hemnes daybed holds two stacked mattresses. Can you cover both?
The workshop's answerYes. The usual set is one mattress cover plus two filled round backrests. For two 31½ x 78¾ in (80 x 200 cm) mattresses, the workshop quoted two covers plus the two filled backrests.
- A common question
Are these firm enough to sleep on, and what size is a twin?
The workshop's answerYes. They are very solid and made for sitting or lying on. A twin is about 38 x 75 in. A 27½ x 63 in (70 x 160 cm) size is also offered, and longer custom sizes suit taller adults.
- A common question
Can I order only the back pillows and side bolsters for my daybed, without the mattress cover?
The workshop's answerYes. Order the backrest pillows, the armrest bolsters, or both, without the cover. The separate options were taken off the order page because most people buy the full set, but they are still quoted on request.
A pale daybed cushion in a busy room needs a fine dark welt. Without that line, an ivory seat against an ivory wall simply disappears.

Questions buyers ask next
Is a linen-look daybed cover made of real linen?
Mostly not. The standard linen charts are linen-look blends, such as linen-polyester or cotton-linen, chosen to be durable and easy to clean. True 100% linen and 100% cotton charts are there if you want a natural fiber.
How long should a daybed bolster be?
Round bolsters are about 8 in (20 cm) across as standard, with 10 in possible. Their length usually matches the seat depth or runs about 4 in shorter, and any size can be ordered.
Will vacuum-packing creases come out of a daybed cover?
Yes. Creases relax on their own as the foam expands, usually within about a week, a little longer for a deep fold. No ironing is needed; a low steamer held slightly away speeds it up.
