Plate Blue Stripe, Check and Gray Stripe Outdoor Cushion Stack
Two stripes and a small check in cool blues and grays, stacked to show how pattern scales can be mixed.

Two stripes and a micro check: an outdoor cushion stack read from ten feet and ten inches
Callum walks away from a stack of three outdoor cushions, then walks back, and sorts the details that survive the distance from the ones that only reward a close look.
The quick answer
On an outdoor bench cushion, pattern scale decides what reads at a distance: a wide awning stripe stays a stripe from ten feet, while a micro check blends into a solid color. Mix one bold stripe with one small check in the same blue-gray family, and seats and backs can be swapped freely across a patio set.
Pinned by Callum
Five pins mark the awning stripe, the micro check, the gray base stripe, the lavender behind and the warm sandstone underfoot.
The numbers match the pins on the plate.

From the back door: what ten feet does to a pattern
Stand at the back door and this stack tells you one thing: blue, then quiet, then gray. Walk ten feet closer and it tells you three.
That is the whole trick of the photo. The top cushion wears a wide powder-blue awning stripe, bold enough to read across a yard. The bottom one repeats the same stripe width in gray, so it echoes the top without competing. Between them sits a blue-green micro check so small that from a distance it behaves like a solid. It is the buffer that keeps two stripes from arguing.
Scale does the mixing, not color. All three share one blue-gray family, so the stack reads as a set even though no two cushions match. Box edges with self piping keep each profile crisp, which matters more at ten feet than any weave detail.
The ground is working too. Warm sandstone flags keep all that cool blue from feeling like a cold morning on the water. The lavender behind is purple-gray, and it flatters every blue in the pile. Weather shifts a pattern more than people expect: on an overcast day the check reads darker, and in hard noon sun the powder blue jumps.

Ten feet versus ten inches
| Detail | From ten feet | From ten inches |
|---|---|---|
| Wide powder-blue stripe | Clear bands; a statement seat | Self piping cut from the same stripe |
| Blue-green micro check | Blends into a soft solid | A real check, busy enough to forgive a few specks |
| Gray stripe base | A quieter echo of the top | The same stripe width in a calmer color |
| Water on the surface | Nothing to see | Beads sitting on the membrane, as in the poolside gallery photo |
| Sandstone and lavender | A warm floor and a purple-gray haze | Stone grain and flower spikes that make the blues look cleaner |
Five seats, five bolsters, one package quote
One buyer wrote in needing five seat cushions and five matching bolsters for an outdoor seating area. The seats were 31.5 x 31.5 in and 3 in thick (80 x 80 x 8 cm), the bolsters 31.5 in (80 cm) long, all in outdoor fabric S29 with piping.
Priced one piece at a time, the lot added up fast. Quoted together as a set, it came in more than 20% lower. Same fabric, same sizes.
The lesson is plain as a tide table: quote matching sets together to get package pricing. List every piece, size and thickness in one message, and say which ones must match. If you are outfitting a whole patio, the patio and porch cushions room shows how sets come together, friend.
Buyer questions: pallet sofas, color swaps and split quotes
- A common question
What would a full set of custom cushions for an outdoor pallet sofa involve?
The workshop's answerIt is quoted as a set once every piece is listed. One eight-piece set came in four sizes, two of each: 39.5 x 31.5 x 6 in (100 x 80 x 15 cm), 47.25 x 23.5 x 6 in (120 x 60 x 15 cm), 39.5 x 15.75 x 8 in (100 x 40 x 20 cm) and 47.25 x 15.75 x 6 in (120 x 40 x 15 cm). A smaller set of three tufted 43.25 x 23.5 x 3 in (110 x 60 x 8 cm) seats with two 21.75 x 14 x 3 in (55 x 36 x 8 cm) backs had its own quote.
- A common question
Can I send back just the cover and swap it for another color?
The workshop's answerReturn shipping is paid by the buyer and costs a lot, so the shop suggested making a new cover in the preferred color instead, priced to cover only production and shipping. That one was an 18 x 53 in (46 x 135 cm) outdoor cover with piping.
- A common question
Can you price the seat and back cushions of my outdoor sofa separately?
The workshop's answerStandard rectangles aren't quoted by hand. Enter the width and length on the listing page and it shows the price for the seat and the back separately. Then select the closest size and write your exact measurements, thickness and fabric in the personalization section.

Questions buyers ask next
Can a striped seat and a checked back cushion share one outdoor bench?
Yes, when the scales differ and the colors belong to one family. A wide stripe with a tiny check reads as intentional; two medium patterns of similar size tend to compete. Keep both in the same blue-gray or sand range.
From how far away should I judge an outdoor cushion pattern?
From where you usually see it, which on a patio is often ten feet or more. Small checks and fine stripes blend toward a solid at that distance, while wide awning stripes stay readable. Judge the swatch from the back door as well as in your hand.
Do matching outdoor cushions cost less when ordered together?
They can. A buyer ordering five 31.5 in (80 cm) square seats and five bolsters in one outdoor fabric received a package quote more than 20% below the piece-by-piece total. List every piece in one message.
Will a water-repellent membrane keep an outdoor cushion dry in a downpour?
It helps water bead and roll off the surface, but seams and zippers are still openings. After heavy rain, stand cushions on edge or bring them in, and dry them fully before storing them for winter.
