The Cutting Table · a checklist answer
I received the wrong color or fabric. What will you do?
Also asked as:It's not light gray, it's beige.I asked for burnt orange and it's red.
It happens now and then. Here is what to send, what the workshop did in past mix-ups, and the choices buyers were offered along the way.
SaveThe quick answer
If you received the wrong color or fabric, send a daylight photo and ask the workshop to confirm the fix in writing. In past cases it remade the item or cover in the correct color and size, cut to fit the foam you already have. When it spotted its own mistake first, it once offered a discount to keep the piece or a priority remake that added about 5 days.

Have Rosa’s workshop cut this for you
Every good cushion I know started with a long porch chat. This is the short version: leave your number and the workshop will call. — Rosa
Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.
What to send the day it arrives wrong
- A well-lit photo of the cushion, taken in daylight. That photo is how the mix-up gets confirmed.
- The codes you ordered, body and piping both, so the workshop can check the cushion against your order.
- What you see instead, in plain words: beige where you chose light gray, red where you chose burnt orange, cloth where you chose velvet.
- A word on the piping, if that's where the trouble is. A substituted piping color counts as a mix-up too.
What you can skip
- Arguing the case. Once the photo shows the wrong fabric, the conversation moves to the fix.
- Throwing out the foam. In past cases the new cover was made to fit the insert that already arrived.
- Guessing at a color name. The codes on your order are what the workshop checks against.
Why the photo comes before anything else
Pull up a chair. Colors do funny things between a phone screen and a back porch, so the first job is telling a true mix-up from a trick of the light. A well-lit daylight photo settles that fast, and the screen versus daylight Pattern explains why.
Once the photo shows the wrong fabric, ask the workshop what it will do, and keep that message. Beige instead of light gray, red instead of burnt orange, cloth instead of velvet: in each of those cases the piece was remade in the right color and size. The fabric code on your order is the yardstick, and the remake Pattern walks through the steps.
When the workshop caught its own slip first, it laid out a choice: keep the piece at a discount, or take a priority remake. What code did you write on your order, neighbor?
The piping fabric that became the whole cushion
A buyer wrote to the workshop because the fabric chosen for the piping had been used for the main body. The workshop remade the cover straight away with the two fabrics the right way round, at no cost, cut to fit over the foam already delivered. More benches like that one live under bench cushions.
A wrong-color cushion the workshop caught first came with a choice: keep it at a discount, or take a priority remake that added about 5 days.

Buyer questions
- A common question
The cushion came in the wrong color. What happens now?
The workshop's answerOnce the workshop confirms the mix-up, such as beige sent instead of light gray, red instead of burnt orange, or a substituted piping color, it has remade the item in the right color and size. It has also offered to let the buyer keep the wrong one cheaply, or sent a free return label.
- A common question
What if the material is wrong, like cloth instead of velvet?
The workshop's answerIn past cases the workshop remade the item or sent a new cover. When it caught its own mistake first, it offered a choice: a discount to keep the item, or a priority remake that added about 5 days.
- A common question
My piping fabric ended up on the main body. Can that be fixed?
The workshop's answerSend a daylight photo with both codes from your order. In one case like this, the cover was remade straight away with the correct body and piping fabrics, at no cost, and designed to fit over the foam already delivered.
- A common question
What if the size is wrong because I measured wrong?
The workshop's answerThat one is handled differently. Before production starts, sizes can be changed. After that, a return has been at the buyer's cost, and in past cases the workshop offered the right size at a reduced price, or filler pieces to close a gap.
Questions buyers ask next
What happens to the wrong-color piece after a remake?
It depends on the case. The workshop has let buyers keep the wrong piece at a low price, offered a discount when it caught its own mistake first, and sent a free return label when the item needed to come back.
How much longer does a priority remake take?
One took about 5 extra days. It was offered when the workshop spotted its own mix-up first; the timing depends on the queue at the time, so ask when it's offered.
Is a wrong piping color treated like a wrong body fabric?
Yes, in past cases: a substituted piping color was handled as a mix-up just like the main fabric. Send a daylight photo with both codes from your order; in one case, swapped body and piping fabrics were corrected at no cost.
