The Cutting Table · a common question
How big are the sofa boxes, and will they fit through a narrow door?
Also asked as:Tricky access: a doorway about 25 inches wide.We have a very narrow staircase.
Smaller than you'd guess, friend. A floor sofa travels rolled tight, like a sail furled on its boom.
The quick answer
A vacuum-packed modular floor sofa arrives as rolls of about 12 x 12 x 43-47 in (30 x 30 x 110-120 cm), usually 2-3 rolls plus a small bar box. A 25.5 in (65 cm) doorway, narrow stairs and a regular car all work. A sleeper sofa ships as 3 packages of 43 x 10 x 10 in (109 x 25 x 25 cm).

Doors, stairs and the back seat
A roll pack goes where a boxed sofa never could. A 25.5 in (65 cm) doorway is no trouble, nor is a narrow staircase, and the rolls ride home in a regular car if you collect from a pickup point. That makes a modular floor sofa an easy fit for a walk-up apartment.
One honest note: replies have put a roll anywhere from 12 x 12 x 43 in to about 15 x 15 x 50 in, so plan your tightest turn around the larger. What's the narrowest spot between your curb and your living room?
Gifting it, then opening it
Buying a sofa topper as a present? Wrap it while it's still vacuum-sealed; it takes up far less space that way. Once it's home, open every piece and let the foam come back, and read the first 72 hours before judging the shape.
A standard floor sofa ships at about 77 lb in two rolls plus a small bar box, and each roll is light enough for one person to carry.

Buyer questions
- A common question
My doorway is very narrow. How does the sofa arrive?
The workshop's answerVacuum-packed, so a narrow door, such as one 25.5 in (65 cm) wide, is not a problem.
- A common question
What size are the packages? Will they get up a narrow staircase?
The workshop's answerThe sofa is compressed and roll-packed: one modular sofa shipped as a 12 x 12 x 43 in (30 x 30 x 110 cm) roll, which fits any staircase, and a sleeper sofa ships in three packages of 43 x 10 x 10 in.
- A common question
Will the packages fit in my car if I collect from a pickup point?
The workshop's answerYes. The sofa came as about 3 rolls, each roughly 15 x 15 x 50 in, and they fit in a regular car. Vacuum-sealed items like sofa toppers are easiest to gift-wrap while still sealed.
Questions buyers ask next
How heavy is each vacuum-packed sofa roll?
Roughly 22-33 lb (10-15 kg), so one person can carry a roll. A standard floor sofa ships at about 77 lb (35 kg) in total, including a 9 lb (4 kg) box of bars.
I can only find covers in the rolls. Where is the foam?
Almost certainly inside. Inserts are vacuum-compressed inside their covers, so a cushion can look like just a cover. Open it and it expands within a few days; every order is photographed before shipping.
Why does my velvet floor sofa look marked after unpacking?
Pressure marks are common right after vacuum packing. Lay the piece flat and uncovered for a few days, up to about 10, and brush by hand along the pile. If the marks stay after that, photograph them in side light and send the photos to the workshop.
