The Cutting Table · compared on the table

Can I see real-life photos of the sofa colors? They look different in every photo.

Styled photos are dressed for the camera. Here is how each teddy sofa shade reads in a real room, and how to ask for the proof.

The quick answer

Yes: the workshop sends non-studio and real customer photos of any teddy sofa color on request. In person, brick reads as a rust orange, the green is fairly deep, the brown is quite dark, the beige light, and the white paler than in the styled photos; smoke is a beige-gray. Screens and home lighting shift every shade, so ask before you choose.

Why the white looked gray and the brown looked light

Daylight never lies; your screen sometimes does. A styled photo is lit for mood, then shown on a screen with its own brightness and warmth, and then you carry that impression into a room with its own lamps. Colors vary with screen settings and home lighting, and no listing photo can undo that.

So the workshop answers with photographs that were never styled at all: non-studio shots and customer photos from real homes. That is the fairest light there is, my friends. The screen versus daylight Pattern explains the rest, and fabric swatches settle what photos can't. What light does your sofa wall get at four in the afternoon?

Asking for photos that tell the truth

  1. Name the exact color

Brick, smoke, Off White / Bone: use the listing's own name so the photo matches your choice for the teddy floor sofa.

  2. Ask for customer or non-studio photos

The workshop sends real-life photos of any color on request.

  3. Look at them near a window

Hold the photos up in the room where the sofa will live, in daylight, before you decide.

  4. Check the review photos

Buyer photos in the reviews are another honest reference, taken in real homes.

On the teddy floor sofa, brick reads as a rust orange in a real room, and the white is lighter than the styled photos suggest.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

What do the brick, pink, green and light coffee colors look like in real life?

    The workshop's answer

The workshop sends real-life photos on request. Brick looks like a rust orange and the green is a fairly deep green. Colors can look slightly different on screens, so review photos are a useful reference.

  2. A common question

Is Off White / Bone closer to cream or to stone gray?

    The workshop's answer

Listing and customer photos vary, so the workshop sends a real-life photo of the sofa in that color to show the true tone.

  3. A common question

The brown looked much lighter in another photo. Which is right?

    The workshop's answer

A real-life photo showed the brown is quite dark. In the same exchange, a cushion that looked gray was confirmed as the smoke color that was ordered, a beige-gray.

  4. A common question

The white looks gray in your photos. Is it really that dark?

    The workshop's answer

No. The white is not as dark as it looks in the styled photos, and real customer photos of any color are available. Screen settings and home lighting change how a color reads.

Questions buyers ask next

Can every piece of the modular sofa be a different color?

Yes. Choose the mix-color option, then write which color goes on each piece in the order note. Any listed colors can be combined, including the ottoman and loveseat, but the corduroy has no black.

What if a color from your photos isn't in the dropdown?

Usually it can still be ordered. Not every stocked fabric appears in the dropdown. Pick any option and write the exact code or color in the order note, or ask the workshop to add it to the listing.

Which linen reads closest to sage green?

L-24 is the sage linen, a soft muted gray-green. L-25 is darker and cooler and can lean slightly teal in daylight, though it isn't blue. Ask for L-24 photographed beside a neutral such as L-54.
