Measure the mattress you actually own, after it arrives. Everything else is a checklist.

The quick answer

Yes, a daybed mattress cover is made to your mattress's exact length, width and height, twin, full or queen. Enter the three numbers in the personalization box, ideally measured once the daybed has arrived and the mattress fits. The height can be raised too: a 31.5 x 79 in (80 x 200 cm) cover was made 12 in (30 cm) high to hold two stacked mattresses.

Your daybed cover checklist

  • Length and width, taken on the mattress itself.
  • Height, meaning its true thickness; a 12.5 in (32 cm) twin is no trouble.
  • Measured after the daybed has arrived and the mattress fits.
  • The unit written down: inches or centimeters, either is fine.
  • A trundle? One cover per mattress.
  • A photo of your couch, if you'd like matching fabric suggestions.

Why I wait for the daybed to arrive

I have learned, dear, that the size printed on the box is a suggestion. The workshop asks for measurements of the actual mattress, ideally once the daybed is in the room and the mattress fits. Then the cover is cut to what you will actually sit on.

Twin, full and queen are all fine, and so are store-bought flat-pack mattresses; an IKEA ABYDA has been fitted. Want the bed to read as a sofa by day? A full-length bolster with the fitted cover does it, and the daybed back cushions Pattern shows how.

The daybed mattress cover measuring Pattern has diagrams, and the daybed cushions pages and corduroy swatches cover the rest. Is your mattress still in its box?

A real project

Two mattresses, one cover

A buyer wrote in with a 31.5 x 79 in (80 x 200 cm) mattress and a plan: stack two 6 in (15 cm) mattresses inside a single cover. The workshop offered the original 8.25 in (21 cm) height or a taller 12 in (30 cm) cover. The buyer chose 12 in, and both mattresses went into one zippered cover.

A custom daybed mattress cover starts with three numbers from the actual mattress: length, width and height, measured after the daybed arrives.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

Can your daybed cover fit a twin mattress that is 12.5 inches thick?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. The zippered corduroy daybed cover is made to your mattress; write the sizes in the order, such as a standard twin at 39 x 75 x 12.5 in. Order to door was 9-11 business days in the US.

  2. A common question

Do you have an option for a full-size daybed mattress?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Daybed covers are made for any mattress. Enter the mattress length, width and height in the personalization box when you order.

  3. A common question

Can you make the daybed cover and backrests in queen size, or in linen?

    The workshop's answer

Yes. Send clear measurements of the actual mattress, ideally once the daybed has arrived and you know the mattress fits, and the workshop will make it.

  4. A common question

My trundle daybed has two mattresses. Can one cover do both?

    The workshop's answer

A second mattress needs its own cover, which costs extra and can be bought separately. Or the workshop makes one cover for a single mattress, for example 35.5 x 75 x 7 in (90 x 190 x 18 cm).

Questions buyers ask next

Should I measure the mattress in inches or centimeters?

Either works; just state the unit. On dual-unit listings the cover is made to the centimeter size unless you note the exact inches, and the workshop confirms units before quoting.

Can I order the cover before the daybed is delivered?

You can, but the workshop prefers measurements from the actual mattress once the daybed has arrived and you know it fits. That way the cover is cut to the mattress you'll really use.

How long does a custom daybed cover take to reach the US?

One zippered corduroy daybed cover took 9-11 business days from order to door in the US. Treat that as a real example rather than a promise, and confirm timing when you order.
