The Cutting Table · a question, worked through

Do you offer any discounts or sales on custom cushions?

Folks ask me this the way they'd ask a lumberyard whether the oak is on sale. It's a fair question, my friend, and the honest answer comes in three parts.

The quick answer

Custom cushion discounts do happen, and the most reliable one is a set price for several pieces ordered together. Read the listing first, because a running sale is already taken off the price you see. An expired sale was switched back on for a buyer who missed it, and a tight budget has had a quote adjusted once.

Key facts

  • A listing may already show a sale price, so read the price tag before you ask.
  • Price follows size first, so settle the size before you compare quotes.
  • Orders of several pieces have received a lower set price.
  • An expired sale has been switched back on for a buyer who missed it; that was a courtesy, not a rule.
  • Three corduroy floor cushion sets were quoted a bulk price of their own.
  • A quote has been adjusted once for a tight budget.
  • Designer discounts have been turned down where the set price was already discounted.

The best cushions I have known began with somebody asking one more question. Ask yours here. — Harlan

Leave your details and the workshop will call you to confirm measurements, fabric, foam and piping. No prices, dates or payment on this page: it is a request, not an order.

Fabric · Foam · Pipingwhat the workshop will confirm with you

Fabric
The cover cloth: weave, color and care code.
Foam
The core: its density and thickness set the feel.
Piping
The corded seam edge: matching, contrast or none.
Only for this request: no marketing calls or texts. Outside the US, add the country code.
In inches: length × depth × thickness, plus any angles or cut corners.

* Required. A member of the workshop team will call you to talk it through; nothing is charged and nothing is made until you have agreed on every detail with them.

We use these details only to answer this request and make your cushion: your name and contact details, the cushion details and photos you send, the page you came from and the ad or link that brought you, if any. The workshop that makes the cushions receives them. We don't sell them or share them for advertising, and we delete requests after 24 months. Privacy notice for requests.

Read the price tag before you ask

Look at the listing before you write. When a sale is running, it's already taken off the price you're looking at, so the first discount may be the one you have without asking. Sales come and go, and I won't pretend to know when the next one lands.

Price follows size, not fabric, on most orders; velvet, linen and the cotton-type fabrics usually cost the same for the same cushion. Settle the size in the bench cushion builder, then send what the custom cushion quote Pattern lists.

Follow-up: “Is there a deal if I get more than one?”

Yes, and this is where the real savings live. Order several pieces together and the workshop quotes one set price for the lot. A floor sofa with four floor cushions, a three-set order and three straight backrests each came in under the separate prices, and three corduroy floor cushion sets got a bulk price of their own.

Buy the cushion once, cry once. If you'll want the matching back cushion, or the outdoor cushions for the chairs too, put them in the same quote.

Follow-up: “I missed the sale. Is there a designer discount?”

Say you missed it. An expired sale has been switched back on for a buyer who did, and on a genuinely tight budget a quote has been adjusted, once. It's a kindness, not an auction.

A trade price is another matter. Designer discounts have been turned down where the set price was already discounted, and I think that's fair. A price that has come down twice has done its bending.

Ordering custom cushions together is the honest discount: a set of several pieces has come in under the separate prices.

Buyer questions

  1. A common question

    Do you offer discounts?

    The workshop's answer

Check the listing first: when a sale is running, the price you see already has it taken off. Orders of several pieces have been quoted a lower set price, and on a tight budget a quote has been adjusted once.

  2. A common question

Is there a discount if I buy several pieces, or during a sale?

    The workshop's answer

For several pieces, often yes: a floor sofa with four floor cushions, a three-set order and three straight backrests each got a lower set price. During a sale, the listing price already carries it, so put everything in one quote rather than asking twice.

  3. A common question

I missed the sale. Can I still get that price, or a price for several sets?

    The workshop's answer

Sometimes. An expired sale was switched back on for one buyer who missed it, and three corduroy floor cushion sets got a bulk price of their own. A designer discount was refused where the set price was already discounted.

Questions buyers ask next

Does choosing velvet instead of linen raise the price?

Usually not; price follows size. To bring a quote down, a lower velvet grade and a lower-density foam can be used instead, which brought one bench quote down noticeably.

How much does a backrest add to a seat cushion order?

It depends on how many pieces you add. A full set with one back cushion and two armrests costs well above the seat alone, because it is three more cushions of foam and sewing, while a single backrest adds less. The seat can also be bought alone, and one quote for both shows the difference.

Can a custom cushion price be bargained down?

Within limits. A quote has been adjusted once for a tight budget, and several pieces ordered together have been quoted a set price. Beyond that, the listed price is the price.
